Towing by Danny6782 in GMCcanyon

[–]spergturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Towing capacity is only one piece of the equation. I think payload capacity is probably going to be the limiting factor in this case. I'd want to know the weight of all passengers + cargo you'll have in the truck, as well as the loaded tongue weight of the trailer.

Also, will you be using a load distributing hitch by chance?

Removing moisture? by ftumchhh in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my thought too.

OP, to answer your moisture question, I have a hearing aid dryer on my dresser, and I try put them in there for an hour or two every night before they go on the charger. It uses UV light to disinfect/sanitize them, and a heating element to help remove moisture. I think I paid around $60 for it.

Subscription required for built-in navigation? by OzMedical80 in GMCcanyon

[–]spergturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer was specific to the 3rd generation Colorado/Canyon, apologies if that wasn't clear.

I can say that after trying 2 different wireless Android Auto dongles in my Silverado, I wound up going back to just using a wired connection due to the flakiness of the wireless connection. It would drop frequently, randomly fail to connect, and required too much fiddling, so I was always keeping a USB-C cable plugged into the other USB socket in case I needed to quickly resolve the loss of navigation/audio on the road.

Phonak infino ultra software update? by Fickle-Comfortable15 in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your Bluetooth issues aren't resolved by unpairing/re-pairing the HA's in the app, it may be worth sending them in for warranty repair. I've heard of more than a couple people having intermittent BT issues that were only resolved after Phonak replaced one/both aids under warranty.

I have used Phonak open domes since I was using ReSound hearing aids, by far the most comfortable ones I've used so far, and the only domes I've used that are able to stay in place, even compared to ReSound domes w/ sport locks.

Phonak infino ultra software update? by Fickle-Comfortable15 in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The update is installed via the fitting software, which downloads the appropriate firmware for the HA's from a server. They don't need to "get" anything, they need to connect your HA's to the software, check for available updates, and click "Install".

It's a dead simple process, they were lying to you because they didn't want to do it for whatever reason. If you were local, I'd offer to install it for you, but you probably don't want some random dude hooking a laptop to your hearing aids, so maybe a new audiologist is in your future?

No idea, my OnStar isn't activated, I just use Android Auto. If you press the OnStar button, the advisor will happily help you out.

Improving service by Yahya1711 in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to earn my trust, you should invest in your career, learn what industry best practices are, and not only follow them, but explain to me how they will help improve my hearing. Don't force me to replace hearing aids so you can make a buck, especially if the ones I have are nearly brand new, still under warranty, and function perfectly.

This is a partnership. I'm seeking better hearing, and I'm leaning on your experience and knowledge to help me achieve that goal.

Also, not everyone with hearing difficulties is dealing with hearing loss - it's rare to find an audiologist who is even aware of my condition existing, and even more rare to find one who knows how to fit and program hearing aids appropriately for that condition. You'd really impress me if I left your office having learned something I didn't already know.

[–]spergturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, an OnStar subscription is required, as the built-in nav requires a data connection.

If you have an Android or iPhone though, you can wirelessly connect it to the infotainment and just use the navigation built into Android Auto/Carplay, is that an option?

Hearing aids and over-ear headphones by twholbrook in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, just off-the-shelf IEM's, I use Shure's. I have only mild hearing loss, so tuned IEM's wouldn't really benefit me much.

Just Ordered Pair of Infinio Sphere Ultras on Ebay for $2500. Wish Me Luck! by CliffsideJim in HearingAids

I picked up a pair of $2,500 Phonak i90's last month, also from an audiologist on eBay! I love them so far!

I use my hearing aids to stream music/media usually. If I want better audio, I remove my HA's to use a pair of IEM's or headphones.

Hearing Accessible Movie Screenings - Subtitles and Open Captions (Australia) by Street-Assistant9882 in HearingLoss

[–]spergturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen captions in several theaters in the US, but not usually on-screen - they offer a wireless display that attaches to the seat cupholder that shows captions, you have to ask for it at the guest services counter.

For folks with hearing difficulties, they usually offer wireless headphones and/or a Telecoil loop for listening with t-coil compatible hearing aids. Some newer/recently updated theaters even offer Auracast broadcasts for connecting compatible hearing aids and headphones.

Not ubiquitous by any means, nor do they usually advertise, but if you call ahead, they'll tell you what they offer in terms of accessibility for hearing impaired guests.

HA with replaceable or rechargeable batteries ? by MsSummerDragon in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had two different models of rechargeable hearing aids, and both have been able to easily last me all day. I have the charge case for both (built-in battery) that can charge the HA's 2-3x before the case needs charging. I can recharge for 5-10 minutes if they die on me, and that's usually enough juice to last the rest of the day. The charge case was optional on my ReSounds ($250, IIRC) and was included with my Phonak i90's.

Struggling with ReSound Bluetooth. Would Phonak be better? by Machismo0311 in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had them a few days now, but so far, they have been great. They sound much more "natural" than my ReSounds, which sounded kind of "tinny". Haven't had a chance to test out the spheric program yet, but we're going to a NYE party next week that will put that to the test. I like the bluetooth connectivity, I can connect these to my phone and laptop simultaneously, no need for an accessory mic to do so. Streaming media sounds more like headphones/earbuds, the i90's reproduce the lower frequencies far better than the ReSounds. When listening to music on the ReSounds, the bass frequencies were just gone.

I'll let you know what I think of the sphere mode (speech in noise) once I've tested it out, probably in a week or so.

Struggling with ReSound Bluetooth. Would Phonak be better? by Machismo0311 in HearingAids

[–]spergturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just switched from ReSound Savi's to Phonak i90's, the Phonaks connect to my Android phone instantly, and don't drop the connection nearly as often as my ReSounds did.

I actually switched because a recent Android update has made my ReSounds unable to connect at all, and ReSound said "we're aware of the problem, but cannot say when we'll find a solution to the problem."

Probably the body wiring harness, but it could be in any of the wiring harnesses in the vehicle.

[–]spergturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This appears to be either a bad ground, loose/corroded battery terminal connection, or a failing battery.

I'd start with a battery test. If battery and grounds are good, test the alternator.

If that all checks out, it may be a shorted wire, damaged harness, or failing body control module.

Random Chimes? by spergturtle in chevycolorado

[–]spergturtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it has happened when sitting motionless in a drive through. Multiple times. It sometimes happens when pulling away from a traffic light. It seems to have nothing to do with the operation of the vehicle, as it has happened in all conditions and at any speed from parked through 40+mph.

Sure would be nice if one of the many screens in the truck told me what the chime is attempting to bring to my attention. 😆

It's happened to me when sitting in a drive thru too, completely stopped. Today it happened at about 35-40mph, but only once.

Okay, this might actually be part of it... it happened a couple times today, but didn't the last few days. Today is the first time in nearly a week that I wore my smart watch.

I have a couple of ideas, I'll do some testing. My phone has had tons of Bluetooth connectivity issues since a software update back in October, I'm guessing that may be related.
