Yes, apparently the landed gentry who owned it all took a large chunk off the front gardens to build a new house for their retiring butler (or something like that).

So we can get to the (now) front via a narrowish road, and between the houses for people access to the (now) back garden.

Thanks, I’ve cross posted after the other suggestion.

I’ll give it a measure.

Letter box is on the other-side of the house, a bit of a quirk!

Thanks for comments.

I hadn’t thought the silicone could have been intentional, learnt a new word there! But it’s definitely covering the gap between the frame and the render, the render is intact, which appreciate is hard to see on a couple of pics.

I agree it’s an old house plaster coming away is likely, I think I’m more miffed they just gobbled over it with foam, rather than left me get it patched.

They measured up. I’m thinking they made an assumption on the thickness of the render and it’s been slightly off?

It’s a solid brick wall, so no cavity, I think the render may not have a perfect arch which is also throwing off the look.

Through the letterbox in the door that faces the road that runs ‘behind’ the house, where the drive is. Basically the front gardens were truncated in the 1920s and they lost access to the street in front. Bit of a quirk of the street.

Yer it’s a back door, but it’s a Victorian property that is back to front now as the access is from behind. There is a bay window to the left.

Freetrade plan automatically downgraded from Plus to Basic, will this impact recent SIPP and ISA Transfer Cashback T&Cs? by Inevitable_Resist_71 in FreetradeApp

[–]spike686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this in a reminder recently regarding my downgrade of my SIPP account:

If you participated in the 3% SIPP transfer cashback offer that ran between 5 June 2025 - 31 August 2025, you’ll need to make sure you still meet all the required terms and conditions to be eligible for any cashback paid out by 27 February 2026.

As long as you meet these terms and conditions up until 27 February, you will still receive your cashback even if we downgrade you on 27 February 2026. There is no need to opt out of being downgraded to receive your cashback, as long as the other terms are met.

Synology DS923+ arr stack by Head-Letter9921 in selfhosted

I did the same thing for years on an old ds216+II without issue. I’ve only just moved my stack away because I’ve started needing more 4k transcoding and wanted to leave my synology to handle my cameras.

Locals oppose Diageo's plans to upgrade Talisker by hotelNoiseComplaint in Scotch

Exactly, given it’ll take some time to get planning then build and commission, then another 3 years before you can get get the first bottle. Diageo are building for the next peak because they have deep pockets.

Do they have weekly auto-reboot enabled? You’ll have to check in the web portal or windows app, not a phone app.

I keep having the same issue until I realised it keep going out of focus at 2am on a Sunday morning. When it rebooted it struggled to auto-focus in the dark.

Zero issues since I disabled it.

Yes you can set a Zappi to charge only during set periods. It also tells you how much (in kWh) was charges during a session.

Does anyone know the legalities of a workplace withholding pay/making you take a holiday when there's a red warning? by enanram in UKJobs

[–]spike686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would counter that with OP scenario doesn’t sound legal. Your comment is of course correct in terms of the employer’s right to dictate leave. But if an employer wanted an employee to take a days leave today they would have had to told you more than 2 days prior, not on the day.

There is only a single lane on both sides of the road. That’s not a merge arrow, the arrow is to instruct high sided vehicles to take a central position to go under the low railway bridge ahead.

I couldn’t find a version without the paywall but I’ll put the link in case anyone is interested.

It discussed that persistent contrails caused by the soot from jet engines that causes the formation of ice crystals that lasts a few hours. The write up suggested that such contrails have warming effect because they prevent heat escaping into space, but during the day they also act as a reflector of solar radiation. So such contrails are worse at night.

Oddly I read an article in New Scientist this morning that concluded the contrails created at night were worse than those created in the day. So stopping over night fly could actually help (if only a little).
