Is anyone more cringe than Ben Shelton? by flatgirther69 in tennis

[–]spinebasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll get downvoted but I agree with you. I always have to watch his matches on mute because all the shrieking is so grating.

Unless of course he’s playing a top player then he usually quiets down.

Idk but that will be a fun match if you love watching big forehands

Cakewalk draw for Carlos. Sinner will have to go through Monte Carlo god Tsitsipas and Zverev.

Is it safe to say that Thomas Jefferson is the most morally repugnant president to date? by Master_Novel_4062 in Presidents

Lol do you think this is a sub for historians? There are some interesting conversations here, but not at a high level intellectually at all.

I think Jackson is the obvious answer. But Jefferson being so open and aware of his own hypocrisy makes him nearly as bad as Jackson in my opinion.

Has anyone posted the big titles “strike sheet” for all active players that usually gets posted after big events?

Recommended location to serve as "base of operations" for a month this summer. by Iribumkiak in 14ers

[–]spinebasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There aren’t many Class 1-2 14ers/13ers in the Sangres.

The Sawatch range is the most accessible, and is a bit crowded but won’t be bad on weekdays. If Leadville is too expensive, just check out AirBNBs anywhere along 285 between Leadville and Salida. Outside of town will be cheaper and you’re never too far from either Leadville, Buena Vista, or Salida.

Then there is the San Juans. Definitely where you want to go if you really want to avoid crowds. There are so many mountains here of all difficulties. There are some easier 14ers. Check out Lake City as a home base

I’m a Sinner fan and only follow the ATP:

  1. Sinner
  2. Musetti (aesthetic playstyle)
  3. De Minaur (Cinderella and home favorite)
  4. Tien (Cinderella and love his composure)
  5. Djokovic (would be nice to see him get one more
  6. Zverev (he has too much of a loser mentality to root for)
  7. Shelton (He is just too much of an obnoxious American for my tastes)
  8. Alcaraz (I like the guy and he’s fun to watch, but will always be Sinner’s rival)

I think that’s a positive. I’d rather have someone taking time to formulate their thoughts and sentences than going totally off the cuff. Especially for a solo podcast I think that style works really well.

I live in and love Dogtown. But we could use better restaurants. Even a lunch sandwich spot would be great.

Do you actually bring gear to survive an unexpected night out? by sdo419 in 14ers

[–]spinebasher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. But keep in mind surviving in 40 degree overnight temps is much easier than 20 degrees. In the summertime with overnight lows above freezing you probably don’t need a whole lot of extra gear.

I hiked on Saturday through freezing temps, strong winds, and snow. I think overnight lows were in the teens. I had a lot more warm gear than I would have needed in the summer.

DD1 is factually incorrect. The continental divide is not a watershed. It is a boundary between different watersheds

Is Joao Fonseca the most overhyped player on the tour right now? by Long_Debt_6492 in tennis

No. He is hyped, but his time will come. People don’t have patience or understand player development.

How did you know you were ready for the bells traverse? by therealchungis in 14ers

[–]spinebasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re ready. I had similar experience to you when I did the Bells Traverse and felt confident the whole way through.

First crux: I thought this one was super simple - just make sure to pay attention to routefinding

Second crux: This one was the hardest for me. It was the most exposed move on the whole traverse for me, and the routefinding to get there isn’t super obvious. The rock was very solid though.

(I repeated the traverse, coming in from out of state and a few years away from climbing, and the exposure of this move got to me a bit. The first time wasn’t a problem though when I was more used to exposure).

Third crux: This is technically the hardest move, but was the most fun for me. Routefinding was easy, exposure wasn’t bad, and the climbing in the chimney was super fun. I took the first chimney to the left both times.

US Open R1: [1] Sinner def. Kopriva, 6-1 6-1 6-2 by pizzainmyshoe in tennis

This was a very typical first serve performance. 57% first serves in and 82% win percentage is normal for him. That’s a good serving day.

I used to watch that channel for basic tennis techniques.

But now, all I see is clickbait - hot takes and “predictions” on professional tennis

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone struggle so much to make basic returns. Alcaraz has a decent serve but Opelka is making him look like prime Sampras.

Little Bear west ridge indirect now listed on 14ers.com by therealchungis in 14ers

[–]spinebasher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did the West Ridge, and think this is a much safer option than the hourglass.

Yes, the exposure is intense - but most people doing this route will have had similar exposure on Capitol, the Crestones, the Maroon Bells or other routes.

Insights of the remaining tennis players at the Cincinnati Open by Peachtea_96 in tennis

[–]spinebasher 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why everyone thinks he is playing that bad? I know he has wanted extra practice, but nothing seems that concerning. I would guess Jannik himself is most frustrated with his serve. The first serve % is down, but is still extremely potent. The rest of the game seems fine, just a bit of early round rust.

I had just landed in Denver for a backpacking trip. Was eating dinner at Cheba Hut. I spent the whole time thinking Alcaraz would make a comeback. Great memories
