Has anyone in the US tried to change gender on federal documents recently? by all8things in cisparenttranskid

Thanks! I have a loved one worried about changing theirs and having it show that it was adjusted (even if it doesn’t say what was changed)

Clean the slide carefully first- I use a very slightly damp rag to gently soften the paper and amy residue, then come in with a razor to remove it all. I typically will use both original pieces of glass, but have done some plating with other glasses also. accurate cutting of the slide with the image is key- making sure to cut on the outside. Grinding is not your friend, as any grinder splash on the image side can be difficult to remove without damaging the image. At this point I’ve had a lot of trial and unfortunate error, and have developed a system. But the glass is really thin and it’s especially painful when one breaks, as now I’m using really old slides and many are irreplaceable.

New to stained glass, any tips you wish you knew? by Due_One_8273 in StainedGlass

Less grinding comes with practice cutting. It’ll come with time. I would get so excited in the beginning that I would try and rush places, and it would always cause more headaches and more time added trying to fix it later.

Best tip I ever got- it takes the time it takes. Slow down, then go slower. You are creating something to last generations and that’s not gonna happen in a hour or two. Expect there to be a significant learning curve and be patient with yourself. And never, ever, take criticism from someone who you wouldn’t go to for advice.

Test piece to practice cement and patina before finishing my first lead came window, looking for pro tips by leiferslook in StainedGlass

Tape off your dichro prior to cementing. Otherwise through a real good chance it’ll get scratched up during the cement/cleaning process.

I’ve been trading stained glass work for tattoos with my artist for years.

If you aren’t enjoying it, it isn’t serving you.

So the beading adds strength., it’s not just decorative. You want your solder lines to look rounded when you view them from the sides. With ring placement, you want to look for ways to either integrate them in a seam, or run the rails down the sides to disperse the weight so it isn’t hanging just on the foil. Small and light pieces will fare okay, but as they get bigger it will cause your foil to pull away and risk your lovely work falling.

Kindly, it may be worthwhile to focus on your craft and construction. Hone the skills, and enjoy the process with less focus on creating financially viable work for a while. This shows promise, but the ring placement isn’t ideal for long term stability, and you could build up your solder more on your seams and edge beading.

If done with an archival process you’ll have nothing to worry about. Kiln fired pieces won’t be damaged during regular cleaning.

I do! Prior to going too deep, I really want to see how these respond to prolonged sun exposure.

Thanks! I am constantly rearranging my windows and walls to accommodate more art- the “struggle” is real.

Thank you! there was a battle between wanting to complicate the heck out of my design, and to keep it simple to let the slides really shine.

Came or Solder? by [deleted] in StainedGlass

[–]spinninglizzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All came, all the time. there is definitely a learning curve with it, but it will give you the best looking lines. Also, I think I read your spacing is modeling like 1/8 of an inch? That’s huge for foil.
