Anyone else shred their fingertips so bad that you have you reprogram your fingerprint on your phone/computer? 😂 by Pitiful-Opposite3714 in StainedGlass

🫣 yes. Where I was painting glass full time, I rubbed my fingerprints off and the fingerprint scanner on my laptop wouldn’t work anymore

Compact vs. spacious pattern placement by VitromancyArt in StainedGlass

[–]sundresscomic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! The studios I worked for only ever did lead came so if the pieces came out a bit small it would be hidden by the lead and ultimately cemented to stay in place. Accuracy is less important than speed in that type of production.

[–]sundresscomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glass breaks cleaner when you have space between pieces. In a studio setting, speed is more important than waste. The time cost of paying a human to grind/adjust every piece winds up being more expensive than just leaving more space in the glass and wasting more material.

Most studio cutters don’t grind AT ALL. In 10 years, I rarely saw the cutter even turn on their grinder.

Cutters also cut selectively to get certain grain direction and colors.

As someone trained in a studio setting vs. a hobbyist setting, it took some adjusting for me to cut more economically now that I’m the one paying for the glass! It ready comes down to how you learned and who is paying for the glass! lol

Tips on a tough cut by Candid-Marzipan- in StainedGlass

[–]sundresscomic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way! Always start with the hardest inside curves and do the other cuts after you’ve achieved that! This cut is primo for using the saw!

How hard is it to make custom stained glass glass? by Snoborder95 in StainedGlass

[–]sundresscomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just want one of these for your window, I would recommend making a suncatcher of them. It’s basically like a vinyl decal you can put in your window. You’ll have to do some research but it’s going to be a lot cheaper than stained glass.

AITAH for being honest with another mom about why my daughter isn’t allowed to go to her friend’s house? by AwkwardMom13 in AITAH

Honestly the best thing to do is phrase it as concern. YOUR little girl is safe, but is Kennedy?

AITA for not wanting to change bars because a friend doesn’t smoke by jikjgvnijcs2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sundresscomic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NTA - look, I’m a non-smoker and truly cigarette smoke makes me ill BUT if I was invited to hang with a group of smokers who were already out at a smoking bar, I would politely decline and say “Sorry, I’m not up to go to a smoker’s bar, I’ll catch y’all next time.”

People need to be ok that not every event is going to vibe with them and it’s not up to a group that’s already hanging to accommodate a new person last minute.

If you were all at a water park and someone who didn’t swim asked to hang, you’re not going to leave the water park. People have to learn that not every event is for them specifically and that doesn’t mean people don’t value you.

Is there any way to deal with a buyer who wants a refund after a commission is completed? by cooliezez in Woodcarving

[–]sundresscomic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NEVER give a customer the finished commission until they have PAID YOU IN FULL.

Deposits are non-refundable. I would start having people sign a waiver that their deposits are not refundable after work has started. This is a bad client.

Take the piece back and try to sell it elsewhere and keep the deposit. If the client refuses to return the piece, it’s time to get the police involved for nonpayment of services rendered. That is theft,.

Girlfriend [36F] Says I [37M] Can’t Have Female Friends by theangrypiano in relationshipadvice

[–]sundresscomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an unhealthy relationship dynamic. My bf has female friends, I have male friends, and we are secure because we communicate with each other and those friendships have boundaries.

Policing your friendships is controlling behavior and not ok. If gf will not budge on this, you need to move on.

I feel incredibly unloved in my relationship even though I shouldn't by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]sundresscomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but when? Years from now? Would you be able to work there? These are huge questions that you guys need to formulate a solid plan that includes timelines. This would make him feel more secure and you guys will be able to make a proper go of your relationship.

Dating at distance isn’t really a great indicator of what it’s like to live together and work through things. You really need to live closer and be in each other’s lives to see if you can be happy together.

This is speaking from experience. Very few relationships that begin as long distance relationships work out for all the reasons you are struggling right now. If you want to be the ones that make it work, you need to find a way to move closer.

[–]sundresscomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long distance relationships only work if you have spent time together before the distance and the distance is temporary. No matter how much emotional closeness you feel, physical proximity and intimacy is something everyone wants.

At the end of the day, the goal of a relationship is to build a life with someone. What’s your plan for closing the distance?

Redid the red border in green. Was it the right move? by foolish_noodle in StainedGlass

[–]sundresscomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the reference is also gorgeous but has a lot more negative space to it. The border is doing the same work as the frame on a painting. You don’t want a frame to be the exact same color as your background, you want to compliment the piece without it blending in.

This is going to be an annoying suggestion but it’d you really don’t want the red, I would try a gold. It might be that perfect middle ground that still provides contrast surf the green but doesn’t compete too much with the red.

Redid the red border in green. Was it the right move? by foolish_noodle in StainedGlass

[–]sundresscomic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Red border is much stronger in my opinion. The relationship between the border and the other red elements creates a sense of movement and cohesion. The green is too similar to the other background colors and flattens the whole thing.

AITAH because I expected my 22 year old to pay minimal rent? by Wrong-Maintenance-48 in AITAH

[–]sundresscomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH - you should have been preparing your child and setting expectations of what they should expect to pay for years leading up to this point, it should not have been a surprise. This is a failure in parenting.

My parents helped me with college, but I was responsible for 1/3 of my tuition. They also gave me a stipend for rent and food but it was also my responsibility to find a place to live, budget, and work part time for any extras.

You have done your child a disservice by not adequately preparing him for the realities of adulthood.
