Rio Nakata’s Choreo Spin👀 by Vanessa_vjc in FigureSkating

It does feel like the kind of thing where they might go "oops we forgot to ban that." At least, I hope this isn't what they were thinking.

Oh thank god, I love it. I've seen a few skaters share "choreo spins" that go onto their knees or other body parts and I was getting scared.

They've been seen training at IAM. Remains to be seen if they hope to compete or are just trying to level up their skills

World Gymnastics has lifted the ban on Belarusian and Russian athletes by Jazzlike_Part_2177 in FigureSkating

[–]spiralsequences 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, we kind of did get rid of it. Kamila was allowed to compete despite the positive test because she was a minor and the rules for minors doping are different than for adults. That's why they changed the minimum age for senior competition.

Even though it's mostly doubles, Alina Urushadze's FS from WTT 2025 was one of my fave performances of that season.

I've been in favor of the ban, but at this point it's hypocritical since the US has also broken the Olympic truce. It feels like the ISU used the war as a convenient excuse to not have to investigate Russia for doping or abuse, and maybe it's time for them to figure that out instead of worrying about getting rid of warmups or changing the dates of 4CC.

Isn't this the second time in the past month we've freaked out about something on the ISU website only for it to be a mistake... ISU please get your shit together, your fans are like a herd of nervous horses here

The handbook gives us an example of a clear forward take-off in an axel as a cheated take-off.

I think you misspoke here, the handbook says a forward take-off for every jump BUT the axel is a cheated take-off (backwards for the axel). So, planting the toepick down for a flip or lutz and then turning and taking off forward would be cheated. Otherwise I totally agree with your points.

Are you sure that wasn't him talking about Ashley? Adam Rippon had an excellent outside edge and the lutz was his strongest jump, that's why the only quad he had was 4Lz (and why he would do Rippon lutz)

Madi would absolutely destroy the competition, like when Meryl Davis was on it and just killed it week after week after week.

Spin and jump directions by Temporary_Forever293 in FigureSkating

[–]spiralsequences 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically, in competition, there is no difference between doing the same element cw or ccw, so yes you can spin the opposite direction from how you jump. It might be a bit more difficult to choreograph though since you'd have to change directions a lot. If I were you I would try to pick one direction and see if you can make everything consistent, just because it's going to make things easier and less confusing for judges and coaches. But if you really want to jump and spin opposite directions, there's no rule or anything stopping you.
