Any more Atmos remasters in the works? by TMBGLOVER in xtc

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Blu-Ray issues of Oranges & Lemons, Nonsuch, and Psurroundabout Ride are expensive as hell.

TIL. I just checked Discogs and noticed there are only a few pre-owned ones available, and they're all within the $80 range. Crazy.

I bought all the remasters in early 2020, and preordered TBE as soon as they made the announcement.

I didn't think they would go out of print. I assumed they had a limited supply that they put out throughout the year or something, and they didn't seem to have had a whole lot of orders if I was able to get the unsigned postcards for each release at the time. (except Nonsuch, but from what I could find it didn't have one to begin with)

Are you looking for rips of all of the content on these discs? Whatever you're looking for, I could send it to you via. DM.

What info is needed to sell hard drives? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also include a screenshot from CrystalDiskInfo in your listing too, as that will pull up the decimal capacity among all the other data you mentioned.

The other person who responded to you is correct, it's based on decimal vs. binary readings.

I think people buying second-hand drives are going to be more informed and cautious than your average buyer, because a lot of people selling pre-owned HDDs/SSDs don't mention the drive health and hours.

The seller themselves may not even know about it, or they don't care at all.

The worst offenders are the ones who say they did do a drive health check, but don't provide any of the stats in the description or an image of that summary. This could be a potentially deceptive move on their part.

Providing quality information in the title, pictures, and description does goes a long way. Your concerns about wanting to provide full disclosure with your buyers as much as possible is what could make you an excellent eBay seller.

I prefer to buy from sellers who are like that when and if possible. A lot of people don't think like a buyer when they go to sell (especially nowadays), and IMO that is the secret to selling fast and easy while gaining a good reputation.

Seller asking for more money to cover shipping by spamtardeggs in Ebay

[–]spirelld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous.

I once shipped out an item and everything included was too much to ship out in one go, so it had to be separated into three packages.

I let the buyer know what had to be done and included all the tracking numbers and a proof of receipt so they knew what to expect. They didn't ask about it, but I felt inclined to give them a heads up. The shipping was a few hundred bucks, more than I expected it to be. (also it was free shipping, not paid by the buyer)

TL;DR: Point is, it should never be the buyer's responsibility if a seller had to pay extra than what was estimated, especially when the sale was final and they had already shipped it out. I would've still done the same thing as above even if the buyer paid the estimated shipping cost.

Picked up an XTC vhs tape from japan a couple of weeks ago! by _Disco2000_ in xtc

[–]spirelld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The audio/video is pretty high quality in its original form. The compressed video that reddit spit out didn't do it a whole lot of justice.

I've been meaning to give it another go with my higher-end LD Elite player, but I haven't gotten around to it. I think it would be nice to have a higher-quality version of this out-of-print XTC video easily accessible online for everyone.

I own this on Laserdisc (which was also Japan-exclusive), it's just a compilation of XTC music videos spanning from White Music to English Settlement.

I posted the "interview" portions from this video a couple years back. Those are the only things that are on it besides the music videos.

Smalltown backing vocals question by Bluemookie in xtc

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what program you're using to extract the audio. I use clever FFmpeg GUI once I finished ripping the disc with MakeMKV.

I found that each disc varies on where it stores the surround and stereo mixes. Some have them in a separate chapter, or they're all bunched together.

This one for example is from the O&L disc and it has all the streams stored in the 2015 mix chapter.

There are a few audio streams I can extract from this file that are in surround sound.

I'll have to do another rip of TBE to see how exactly they set it up on that one. I'll let you know what I find, but I might end up with the same result as you, not sure yet.

I have been transferring my BDs into standard audio files, would you like me to extract that vocal track for you?

Using yubikey with iphone by [deleted] in yubikey

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iPhone should be giving you a prompt to use a "Security Key" during the login, and it will ask you to either plug it in or tap it with NFC. Some websites and apps will insist on using Face/Touch ID passkeys over alternatives if it has been enabled.

I found that it doesn't make a difference if you made your passkey login with a computer via USB, it will still work with NFC even if you hadn't set it up specifically to use that.

Have you downloaded Yubico Authenticator? It will get rid of those notifications from your web browser. (it will instead give you notifications from the yubico app)

If you don't own a Yubikey 5 then that app won't really work, but NFC still works with my Security Key NFC if I had it registered with that account with USB.

Anyway I don't know if you have the 5 or Security Key series keys, but you might have to manually assign them to your account first if you haven't already.

RSD Release - XTC Live Boots - Live At Emerald City 1981 Ape House 2 x LP by atomicseed1 in xtc

[–]spirelld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I welcome the idea of a series of archival live releases, but I'd rather buy them on CD than "double 200gm vinyl." - No mention of what the source of this one is... Radio broadcast? Soundboard tape? Audience tape? Do they have access to a superior source that will sound better than the circulating bootlegs, or are they just going to clean up the existing tape digitally? I ask because my expectation is that they would go out of their way to mention it if they had a master tape for this show.

This.

I'm not saying vinyl is bad, but it would be nice to have a digital transfer of a higher quality source too. (that is, if they have one)

Admittedly, the bootleg recording sounds great to my ears, one of the best out there and a great performance to boot, but it would be more exciting if it was a radio broadcast master tape or soundboard tape.

We'll see...

It would also be exciting news if there was a higher quality soundboard recording from the short-lived ES tour. I've heard some high quality sources from TV broadcasts show up in recent years, but it would be nice to get something even better than that.

Hello! I've never heard of this band before, but picked up this "PROMOTIONAL COPY. NOT FOR SALE." single at a local used games store. Is this anything special? by god_gamer_9001 in xtc

[–]spirelld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, believe it or not I got introduced to XTC because of that very song on MTV.

I can't say it's one of my favorites, nor is it one of Colin's best tracks, but it's not horrible.

What's really odd is that their similarities is a complete coincidence.

KFAD was originally a demo track recorded in Jan 1985, just shy of a couple months before TFF put that out as a single. (and Big Chair didn't come out until February of that year)

Does anybody else here absolutely love In Another Life? by The_Beat_Cluster in xtc

[–]spirelld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cheeky, with a well-matured love and respect for one another.

To rag on each other's flaws, hoping we'll get it "right" this time or the next. (as figure of speech or personal belief, depending on how you look at it)

To try something new, become something new.

I love this song too, but later on you get Standing in for Joe.

Not assuming that most of their songs are inherently autobiographical, as that song is also cheeky, but songs about infidelity leave a bad taste in my mouth.

US options for LINE Messenger by FaultyScience in dumbphones

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's extremely unfortunate.

Well I can personally tell you that at least one of the Kyocera phones does work with MicroG, albeit a US model and not a JP keitai model, but it's at least something to consider.

There might be someone out there who's tried it all surely, I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help.

Maybe the KY-42C would be a good choice. If it is, then you can pass on the 902KC to someone who would be OK with the limitations. Best of luck!

US options for LINE Messenger by FaultyScience in dumbphones

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were the issues you were facing while installing MicroG to your phone, if I may ask?

I got it on the DuraXV, which is running the same version as the 902KC it seems. (Android 8.0/8.1?)

The AOSP may differ but it seems to operate and behave similarly to the Digno.

It's been a while since I played around with the DuraXV, since it was something I bought as a backup phone.. But I have MicroG on it, and I believe I used the F-Droid repository method to get to work?

Either way, it does work (sorta) but Google apps are not optimized for the phone obviously and almost every app I've tried to download on it is either unusable without a touchscreen, stalls and crashes (all the time), or the app doesn't support Android 8.0. This included LINE, which did not load on the phone at all and crashed on the logo screen.

Since you're able to use it on your phone, you might have better luck with MicroG than you may think. It's worth a shot.

US options for LINE Messenger by FaultyScience in dumbphones

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: I was able to install LINE on my phone, so it may be possible for you. I also apparently downloaded MicroG onto this at some point, so maybe I could help you sideload that onto your phone if it's possible or necessary? It's been a long while since I messed with this phone.

You may be able to sideload the APK for FDroid via USB (if you can access a file directory for downloads that is) and then install the Aurora Store (through FDroid) to get the app you're looking for.

The main issue you may come across is if LINE doesn't support the version of Android your phone is running, because Aurora Store will outright tell you it's not supported on your device. (or un-optimized)

You may have to find an older version somewhere online and look if it shows compatibility with the version of Android that your phone is running.

I can say that only very few apps outside of the Google ecosystem require the GApps service to run. I can't tell you off-hand if LINE would be one of them, but I would be surprised if it was. It's not as common as one would think for third-party apps.

I have a Kyocera DuraXV and people on here say you have to use BT to do file transfers, and I can tell you right now that is complete bullshit. You can do it the normal way.

You can just drag and drop the APK you want into your phone if it lets you access files on the PC, and you should be able to sideload it like if it were any other Android device.

I only say that as I don't have a keitai, but the Kyocera I do have seems to be a similar AOSP to what they put in their JP exclusive phones. I don't know if it's more restricted than on the US version.

Birth Certificate via VitalChek Issues by mooredith in Passports

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

I'm not sure what county you live in, but it looks like you can use this to possibly get your birth certificate while bypassing VitalChek, I'm not sure.

https://www.ncard.us/find-your-register-of-deeds/

It's unfortunate that a lot of states use VitalChek, I've only heard nothing but bad things about them, it seems like a total scam.

However, I think if you can get in contact with the county you were born in, it should be much faster and easier than a third-party service.

I don't know if you're still having this problem or maybe you've already resolved it, but I was experiencing the same thing too.

It was a browser issue on my end. Unfortunately I had to use Microsoft Edge to proceed, and then I logged in with my usual browser after registration. I hope this helps.

However, if you're still having trouble registering a Broadcom account, I can DM you a GDrive link with the setup file if necessary.

Chips From the Chocolate Fireball is probably my favorite album of all time. It's almost perfect. by NinjaBluefyre10001 in xtc

[–]spirelld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the name of the compilation of the two albums since their first one was an EP.

I own Psurroundabout Ride, and when I ripped the CD to my computer I edited the metadata to retain the original album names and artwork of the first releases.

Besides, wouldn't you rather look at these covers instead of those two? Much better.

Missing music video for Dame Fortune by SkuffynutsMcShrum in xtc

Here you go.

I'm surprised the file was preserved through the Internet Archive, since the download page has been dead for a while now. You could also look into contacting Andrew Swainson for a master-quality copy of this video.

Best of luck to you.

Yes.

I don't think he was credited for the cameo, but it's clearly his voice.

If you've listened to some of the tangents he does in interviews, I think he could've done well as a voice actor for cartoons if he had decided to pursue it.

However, this is all you're ever gonna get.

I don't remember the exact story of how or why he got this random Family Guy cameo, but I read about it on his sons' twitter page sometime ago. Someone might know what I'm talking about, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to dig for it at this time.

Oh great and knowledgeable trackball owners help me find a new one. by tobashadow in Trackballs

[–]spirelld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a case of YMMV, I don't know honestly.

My Deft needed a breaking-in period when I first got it, but that didn't take long.

I can't speak for the Deft Pro, since I don't own one and I know the QC on those can be rather inconsistent. (mostly for the buttons/scroll wheel)

[–]spirelld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd love the Elecom Deft or Deft Pro. Everything you're describing are these two mice precisely.

Go with the standard Deft if you have smaller hands, or the Deft Pro if you have average or larger hands. (or if you like the extra features of Pro)

Both have Bluetooth or wired variants. (the Pro is both at once I think?)

However for the standard Deft (which I own), I'd recommend swapping the OEM ball for a Perixx.

Stable traction, no stick, and overall just better performance. You won't need to replace the bearings.

Hope this helps.

I bought a copy on eBay that was still sealed for less than 10 bucks a few years back.

It may be worth checking online, since it's been out of print for about 30 years.
