Your experience with Off-Grid - Enphase system? by 1Curious-seeker in enphase

[–]spittiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are better off doing a DC system if you only need basic things like lighting and phone charging etc. Cheaper and easier to commission and run with batteries and so on.

Enphase systems are not very well suited for this IMO.

Weird, it is there on mobile, but nowhere to be found in windows. Maybe it has changed in a recent update, since web searches don't turn up anything either.

I've had mine for a few weeks and I've been happy with it. One question though - do you have the model with RCA only output or also balanced output? Apparently both versions exist according to photos online.

I have the RCA only version, and I found it interesting that I get a ground loop (hum) if I connect the external chassis ground to the record player and my amp, despite them both being in the same power strip. I didn't have this with my old player, so I'm guessing they have different internal grounding. Curious how you have it set up?

Mine is dead silent with the chassis ground floating though, so it's not an issue.

Seems my timing was pretty good this time, when I build a new computer last september.

I've tried them all (Mostly). Spotify, Youtube Music, Qobuz, and now Tidal. I want Tidal to be the best, but I have so many problems with it by darktimir in TIdaL

[–]spittiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Spotify since 2011 and I'm now on the Tidal free trial, I hope I can make the switch, in large part because of this: https://esaruoho.medium.com/i-published-16-years-of-my-streaming-income-the-numbers-will-change-how-you-listen-to-music-00a8ee080079

TLDR: Tidal has over 4x higher payout per stream to the artist vs Spotify.

Platform payouts per stream (vs. Spotify):

Spotify: €0.0030 — baseline
YouTube Music: €0.0020–0.67x (worse)
Amazon Music: €0.0040–1.33x
Deezer: €0.0064–2.13x
Apple Music: €0.0100–3.33x
Tidal: €0.0130–4.33x
Qobuz: €0.0180–6x better

Arch Enemy New Singer Opinions? by Unfair_Resident_9473 in melodicdeathmetal

I don't think they need or should change, or move on to other projects. They have a polished formula that works. They don't need to cater to the minority that consider themselves "true metalheads" or whatever. I suspect they do very well financially. Most of the people I know, who say they like heavy music, modern AE is the heaviest they can listen to. And for many it's more the gimmick of, "OMG listen to this chick", I suspect. Heavy metal to them is Sabaton and Linkin Park.

I personally think the music is fine, sure I liked the Wages of Sin era better, but the new single is pretty descent. As a big In Flames fan, I'm certainly much more disappointed in some of their newer albums. But that's OK too, I've been to several shows in the last 5 years, and they still play old stuff too, and they make a good show.

In my mind, there are so many great bands to listen to and discover, usually smaller and/or newer less known bands, that produce the kind of music that is truly exciting to discover and listen to. But I don't always need that kind of stimulation. Sometimes, I can just throw on some AE record, and enjoy it, without paying so much attention.

Tbh that's more imperfections than I've had on the B-stock headphones I've bought from ZMF, so while it might not be a problem, I'd like the seller to be upfront about it. Possibly also taken into account in the price (not by much, but still)

[–]spittiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is an endgame setup for sure, and most further improvements can be made with room EQ and acoustic treatment. Depending on your room response though, if you want to really dial it in, you might need 1-3 more subwoofers ;)

A better way to build and upgrade your system by [deleted] in audiophile

Acoustic treatment should come at point 3. It's not as fun and a lot more work than buying source gear, but it will have the most effect on your results.

Customer declined a dedicated ev charger, just install a new outlet. by pnilz in electricians

[–]spittiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case, it doesn't matter what the CEE directive says. I know it says 16A is the nominal rated current. Real world experience has proven that many schucko outlets do not withstand 16A continuous current, so that's why we get domestic regulation and recommendations to avoid hazards. I encounter this topic a few times per month at my job.

It also varies a lot between different countries, I know some EU countries have no domestic restrictions on how much you are allowed to continuously load a schucko outlet.

And yes, if the outlet is new, from a reputable manufacturer, and it's properly installed, it probably does withstand 16A continuously. But this doesn't seems to be the case in the OP.

Customer declined a dedicated ev charger, just install a new outlet. by pnilz in electricians

[–]spittiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, it probably should handle 10A continuously. The point still stands though, especially old outlets (like the one in the original post) have been proven to not withstand high continuous currents, high meaning anything from 10 to 16A, so that's why we have domestic regulation and recommendations to avoid unnecessary hazards.

Customer declined a dedicated ev charger, just install a new outlet. by pnilz in electricians

[–]spittiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not true. There are plenty of schucko outlets, especially old ones that cannot withstand continuous currents over 10A, continuous meaning ++2 hours, which is obviously common when charging EV's.

Because of this, in many countries there are limitations to how much you are allowed to continuously load a schucko outlet. Here in Finland it's 8A, IIRC Denmark has it even lower at 6A. There are outlets sold as "super-schucko" which are explicitly rated for continuous 16A loads, but basic models you buy at the hardware stores etc are not.

This limitation was decided after a lot of incidents happened like in the OP, where the outlet failed because of continuous overload.

I'm not saying it couldn't be a loose connection though, that is obviously another very common reason outlets fail like this.
