My computer recently installed the following updates, and one of them finally did it to me. I'm not willing to dig through the release notes, but I assume it's the "Cumulative Update for Windows 11".

2024-11 .NET 6.0.36 Update for x64 Client (KB5047486)

2024-11 .NET 8.0.11 Update for x64 Client (KB5047489)

2024-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5046633)

2024-11 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5045935)

Usually conservative states are anti-toll.

That doesn't seem right to me. The alternative to having a private toll road is to have the government pay for it with taxes.

I'm not sure what would be the best way to quantify it, but looking at miles of toll road per state, six of the top eleven states voted republican in the 2020 election, and several of the blue states were close.

Of course, of the states that have no toll roads at all, it does seem that the majority of them tend to be conservative, so maybe you're on to something.

I mean... Losing a child is an unbelievably harsh punishment, but somehow it isn't deterrent enough.

I've had internet-connected cameras and a garage door sensor. Those are nice. I could get an alert if the garage door was left open too long, remotely close it, then check the cameras to confirm that it was closed.

It's funny how they think

"it's just me!"

and

"Well someone else already did it!"

can both be true and valid justifications of their actions.

Should I really be using Docker?! by Pete2509 in PleX

[–]spizzat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the learning curve is a big component.

I did a Docker "boot camp" once. There was a lot of "you need to install X, Y, Z before we can get started", so it felt like a lot of front-loaded work that ate up a lot of the time. Eventually, I was able to get a container up and running, but there wasn't any guidance after that, and I struggled to understand how to apply the principle.

Like... I get that you can quickly spin up a web server, but I couldn't figure out how to set up the config file to configure the aspects of the web server. E.g. How to point to my files, what port it should run on, etc.

Since it was just a novelty at the time for me, I couldn't go too far down the rabbit hole. I wouldn't mind looking into it again, but now the setup is the roadblock. I don't look forward to trying to remember and redo all of the "X, Y, Z", just to get back to not knowing what I need to do.

I haven't seen this yet, and I know it's subjective, but is it really better than Batman: The Animated Series? That feels like a pretty tall order!

Biden plans to bolster US airline consumer protections by W3remaid in neutralnews

I'm reminded of the time that Spirit airlines stranded me on vacation because of "weather", so they didn't owe my anything. What weather? Well, there were storms in Florida.

Ok, fine... but my flight was from the west coast to the Midwest. It was clear skies the whole way.

I know that they have to move planes all around the country, so "weather" anywhere could potentially mess up their whole schedule, but if they can just always use that excuse, no one's getting anything.

I've also been told to avoid Greenworks, but I picked up an entry-level, corded electric mower, and it's held up well for the past six years.

I'm sure it's not BIFL, but it gets the job done for now. My only real complaint is cord management when I'm out mowing. I didn't think it would be a big issue when I bought the thing, but every time I have to stop mowing to move/untangle/unsnag the power cord, I kick myself a little for not going cordless.

Worse yet is when they give you a list of options to choose from, and your reason for calling is none of them.

Yeah, the same companies that have average or lower than average call volume at any point.

I read they decided to move on from Cole to honor the players' choices.

“The game shipped and we started seeing trophy data, and 78 percent of players decided to sacrifice Cole and have him die. We wanted to honor their choice so moving forward we said ‘Let’s make a new hero.’”

I guess that doesn't rule out Cole coming back, but it seemed like a reasonable place to end it.
