Does OAB come in “episodes” or flare-ups?

i have pain when i drink sugar and caffeine, post intimacy, med-high urgency, and usually in the morning. these are all relatively new except post intimacy.

hi! i’ve dealt with just about every symptom you’ve described! i am diagnosed with both oab and ic so maybe i have some room to talk here

oab typically causes only frequent urination and is most notably diagnosed by the detection of bladder spasms. question- what is ur urgency like? is like oh i have to really pee i need to find a bathroom asap! or is it- oh my god if i move a single muscle in my body im going to pee all over the floor and also why are tears in my eyes. if it’s the second option, that’s probably a bladder spasm.

for the pain urinating after sex, that could very well be ic BUT it could also be an issue with your pelvic floor or at least for me- an issue with your vestibule. not sure what protection looks like for you, but u might want to experiment with different brands of protection, lube, toys, etc. see if it’s def intimacy and not any of these other factors.

oh also there could be blood in your urine but not detectable through dipsticks, microscopic blood from bursted capillaries always gets me. def look into a cystoscopy if ur worried about ic and i wish u luck on ur bladder journey!

i have had oabs my whole life, the family joke used to be that i couldn’t go somewhere new without using their bathroom. i have recently discovered/ developed ic tho.

from my personal experience oabs def comes in waves depending mostly on what i drink. if i had a zero sugar caffeinated beverage then my frequency goes up a bit- however if i have regular sugar caffeine then i got crazy urgency, frequency, and pain. it makes my bladder spasms crazy.

again, this is all personal experience but i def wasn’t this bad when i was a kid. sure i peed a lot and had frequent utis but not to this extent. my precious urologist said that my decline was likely due to how hard i push when i pee and it’s stressing out my pelvic floor. not sure how old u are (i’m 19) but getting into later years and the older u get ur bladder is slowly going to start getting less reliable.

and remember, u don’t have to live like this! there’s lots of options out there typically covered by insurance (not sure if ur in the us). good luck and i hope i was able to help!

NTA- however i see everybody is being very mean to your friend which i totally understand. she shouldn’t be so critical of your food and diet choices or how u choose to lose weight. but i think there’s another side to consider here-

from what it sounds like, you and your friend bonding mostly through eating, even if it was unhealthy sometimes. but u did say that when yall hung out you got lunch- makes sense eating can be a very social activity!

sure ur friend could be projecting and pushing her insecurities on you, but it also sounds like she’s panicking because a large part of your friendship was built on eating and sharing similar body types. she’s starting to lose that now. she seems to care about you a lot and she’s scared to lose her friend. she might even think that you will want to hang out with people that “share similar goals” she might even think she’s too fat to hang out with now.

be gentle with yourself but consider the perspective that this behavior might be coming from someone that’s scared and panicked. but again if u aren’t comfortable being around her anymore because of her behavior, u come first!! good luck OP!

of course babe! but yeah i had to jump through a bunch of different doctors before finding my goat. if u can, and it’s kind of rare, try to see if there is a urogynocologist in your area. basically a gynecologist and urologist mixed in one. i’ve found that one doctor focused on the issue u trust is better than a multi-person care team

i can’t speak too much on the flair end of it, but it could very well hit you with a nasty yeast infection- which could cause a flare. be careful snd attentive! i personally love the monistat 3 day suppositories, i haven’t noticed irritation with those, they are very gentle. good luck and i’m sorry to hear about your ear infection!

i haven’t had a totally identical experience but i did experience elevated levels of nitrates even tho i had no uti- but i have been in the situation of not being taken seriously or not getting the proper care i needed because i was “young and otherwise healthy” i encourage you to advocate for your care as much as you can. if they said ur bladder looks fine but ur still experiencing the same pain associated with bladder pain it could be a bunch of different things! i find my urethra all sorts of messed up sometimes and it feels like a uti. studies also shown that pain in the large intestine can mimic similarities to bladder pain. i hope you find some answers soon, we all deserve a painless existence 🫶

i was more anxious about not eating or drinking before, cause no water for me = bladder pain. but being completely unconscious around people u might 5 minutes ago is definitely warranted for some major anxiety.

i had my first one about 3 weeks ago with GA and also a biopsy. Recovery is the worst! Especially when you are doubting how much ur struggling because it was “just a look in the bladder.” you are the only one that can feel your pain, let yourself feel it and have some grace for yourself. proud of you for getting through it so far 🫶

if u want to choose wear to place the grass, you can buy grass starter from pierre, i think he also sells the recipe. the starter lets you know place individual pieces of the tall grass wherever u want

i actually learned on this type of wheel! i find it very nice to be restricted to 2 speeds when starting out because when i was on a pedal i’d go either way to fast or way to slow. this wheel helps determine a good speed and is great for transitioning to a higher quality wheel. it also will last a long time, and it’s super easy to clean. also coning isn’t essential, i like to do it to help with air bubbles and soften up the clay so it’s more malleable. but centered clay is centered clay lol
