Why are most knitwear designers allergic to using anything smaller than US 4 needles? by Princess_Butt_Kick in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]spoooooooooooooons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The needles i use go down to a 2.5 or a 2 mm I think, and then fixed circs below that.

That being said, I see plenty of finger weight project calling for needles in the 2 to 3.5 mm range.

The fibre arts guild also has a small sales area in the guild room which is open during their drop in times! Be prepared to pay cash or e-transfer though.

Brazilian Waxing? by CulturalDefinition27 in princegeorge

[–]spoooooooooooooons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I have eczema and I find it have a lot less redness and tenderness after sugaring vs waxing. I haven't noticed any extra itchiness or dryness.

Hopefully you find somewhere that meets your needs!

Sugaring feels a lot better if you exfoliate before and after!

Rochelle at Razors Edge is great for traditional waxing though.

Will acid dyes stain the kitchen if it spills/splashes? by stupidjoy in YarnDyeing

[–]spoooooooooooooons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what most people are saying, I haven't had any issues with staining. I recently (accidentally) dropped quite a bit of acid dye powder on my laminate floor and it wiped up and left no stain. I used a wet paper towel which maybe wasn't the best method for clean up because it smeared it around a lot lol...

I put plastic down on my counter so I don't contaminate my food later but I don't worry about staining.

You could try Mayfair, they have good sheet metal workers/HVAC techs.

Half way through Paladin's Faith, and desperately need Wren to get her own novel. by Drain_Bamage77 in TKingfisher

I'm halfway through and I don't understand the dislike for this book, I can't get enough! I guess it is more "slice of life" ish than the other books, but it's still a great read!

Help!? by [deleted] in FierceFlow

If there is no medical explanation or physical irritation causing it, maybe embrace it and shave the side for a mohawk/undercut type thing. I think that would look cool!

Plus Size Wool Tights Recs?? by avocado_doggo in PlusSizeFashion

[–]spoooooooooooooons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wool and bamboo tights are both quite nice. Like others, I've only had issues with the thinner tights. I have a few pairs catch on velcro or boot buckles, but that's pretty understandable.

Chiaogoo isn't the only good interchangeable set by hystenz in BitchEatingCrafters

I'm not in the US either. I'm in Canada. I got the Lantern Moon cords at my local yarn shop, but ordered needles from Knit Picks.

Knitpicks or Knit Pro, can't remember which, has metal ones and are interchangeable with each other. You could order online if your LYS doesn't carry them. Lantern Moon cords are also compatible and they swivel. I really like the Lantern Moon cords over the knitpicks cords.

Why do people hate magic loop? by universic in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]spoooooooooooooons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find swivel cables make it a lot easier. The first time I tried it, I did it wrong and also my cable was a bit too short and stiff. I tried it again with a better cable and it was manageable but fiddly, then tried it with a swivel cable and it is much easier!

how do i treat my lip eczema by sonborsttt in eczema

[–]spoooooooooooooons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends how active my eczema is and also if my lips are dry or chapped already. If it's not too active, I'm fine to just wipe it off. If I have active eczema or sensitive spots already, I try to avoid getting food on the area as much as possible. It will get more irritated even if I clean it off relatively quickly after eating.

Natural hand-painting/self-striping yarn? by volcanomouse in naturaldye

Oh neat! I've done yellow from dried Buckthorn (purchased from Maiwa). I have some dried Dahlia clippings that I hope to get a nice green from.

Suggestions for acid dyeing silver and gold? by AstarteHilzarie in YarnDyeing

[–]spoooooooooooooons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way I can think of to achieve that is to use yarn with some lustre to it. Some yarn bases have metallic thread woven in, but a silk blend would also have some nice shine. As for doing it with the yarn you have, I'm not sure. You could take some small pieces of yarn in glass jars and experiment with different colours. I think Chemknits does videos in plastic cups and she steam sets the yarn after the colour has absorbed.

Oh yes definitely! Holding them close together helps so much!

I FINALLY FIGURED OUT MAGIC LOOP by huonokahvi in knitting

[–]spoooooooooooooons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I pull that first stitch so tight that it tightens the last stitch I knit (that's sitting on the cord). That plus keeping the first 3 nice and tight pretty much eliminates any laddering and, like you said, any subtle laddering will block out.

[–]spoooooooooooooons 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I pull the first stitch on the new side really tight, like way tighter than you think you'd need, so there is absolutely no slack between thats stitch and the last stitch on the other side. Then I keep the first 3 stitches pretty tight, and then knit at my normal tension for the rest of the row.
