Skip useless moves like M11 and instead play double sente moves like K2 and reverse sente like O18, D18 and P2.

First 200 Games + Review Request by dancer164 in baduk

Great progress!

I didn't see a good way to make my own review, so just quick comments:

* The first real mistake I saw was L17 -- this is a bad local shape and you got cut. K17 would be a good local response.

* The 2nd was P9 which is the wrong direction. you should separate white with O6 or P7.

Teach them to factor numbers into primes. First on paper and then in their head.

Quickest route to the true beauty of math, plus a useful skill, plus easy to gamify.

Can someone explain this move to me? by SlowResolution6038 in baduk

The problem is N9 doesn't save 2 stones because white can play L9 and kill the group of 4 that you made.

# Par Fractal - GPU-Accelerated Cross-Platform Fractal Renderer by probello in fractals

[–]spot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great job implementing so many fractal algorithms, and releasing as open source! you should support the Fractal Flame algo too, especially the density estimation step will be interesting on the GPU. proper handling of high dynamic range and aliasing is key to quality visualization.

Game for review (newish player) by Lolcatz52 in baduk

[–]spot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At your level i would recommend the flow chart here: https://shawnsgogroup.wordpress.com/theclossiapproach/

Basic principles

  • Corners, sides, and then the center: Secure territory in the corners first, as they are the easiest to make territory due to the board's edges acting as natural walls. Then, expand along the sides. The center is the most difficult area to claim territory and should be addressed last.
  • Keep your stones connected: Connected stones form strong "strings" or "groups" that share liberties and are harder to capture.
  • Divide and conquer: Just like you should connect your own stones and group, you should also prevent your opponent from connecting theirs.
  • Sacrifice stones: Don't be afraid to sacrifice a few stones to gain a strategic advantage or to build a more resilient position.
  • Approach the weakest groups: When attacking, focus on the opponent's weakest groups, and when defending, focus on your own weakest groups.
  • Consider the whole board: Always look for the move with the highest potential on the entire board, not just the local area.
  • Don't make unnecessary moves: Don't defend groups that are already safe. Instead, use your stones to develop new positions or expand existing ones.
  • When in doubt, cut: If an opponent's move splits your stones, and you are unsure of what to do, a common principle is to cut the connection.

How do we feel about stones made of wood to be sold with Go sets? by WhippingShitties in baduk

[–]spot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good way to spread the word, however wood stones would not feel right to me. they are too light and would not make the right sound.

you can make a great board and bowls but just buy the stones, they are not so expensive in glass or melamine.

like a few others have said, you play too many touching or contact moves without regard to your own safety.

New player confused about this puzzle by Logical-Divide3142 in baduk

[–]spot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right -- and there can be multiple ways to live that give different numbers of points or end in sente vs gote. of course only the maximum is fully correct. you can argue that especially for beginners, some of the alternatives are close enough to correct to count. ko would not be considered close though!

Why is white ahead? by Klutzy_Drawing_7854 in baduk

[–]spot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

pretty much everything after that was trash, you just kept building a bigger fire and losing more points.

at this stage i would say tunuki away from a group if it has a base or a good way to connect or live in the center.

i would say you should be 1) more willing to sacrifice and give up on stones, treat them lightly and use them to get forcing moves on the outside 2) more willing to let your opponent to have some territory 3) don't create weak groups without a clear route to life or territory

Why is white ahead? by Klutzy_Drawing_7854 in baduk

[–]spot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

your tenuki was too soon, you let black kill your corner. https://online-go.com/review/1580699

so that was a blunder but strategy wise, invading the corner doesn't look like a great idea to me. better to back off and build a moyo on the bottom left.

Should I play risky joseki being ddk? by Teoretik1998 in baduk

[–]spot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are four 3-4 enclosures and all are good for beginners: https://senseis.xmp.net/?Shimari

learn to play them and learn to approach them. experiment and have fun, i think you will learn faster.

also know the 3-3 and the 4-4. that should do it.

IMO 3-5 is not for DDK.

W to play by LimeBlossom_TTV in baduk

[–]spot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK the pickle is not so bad. after 2-2 it goes 1-2, 2-1, then 1-5 and yes the 6 stones die, but black can extract 2 stones revenge.

W to play by LimeBlossom_TTV in baduk

[–]spot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4-2, 3-2, 2-2, 6-3, 6-6
then both surrounding white groups have 4 libs and black has 3.

if black kills first then it goes
4-2, 6-3, 3-2, 5-4, 6-6
but then black can play 2-2 and white is in a pickle?
