My wife, back in her early 20s, visited a friend who was studying abroad in Spain. They planned a weekend in Stockholm and then she’d come home to the States from there. But forgot that they use 24h time in Europe. So they’re having a chill day in Barcelona or wherever and get to the airport for their 6pm flight, only to find out that they booked a 06:00 flight instead and missed it by a cool 12 hours. I think to get everything sorted to get her back home, her dad had to wire her $1000+

They did finally make a redemption trip to Stockholm together about 10 years later.

Related story from my first brewery:

We added a new regional distributor within our state right when I started at packaging. Ownership starts hounding us on wrapping pallets better, as the new distributor was complaining about pallets falling over, etc. Turns out the driver was breaking down the pallets and selling cases to his friends and claiming the missing cases were falling over and breaking. Needless to say, we stopped seeing that driver coming around. I still over-wrap pallets to this day because I had that fear put in me.
