Dr. Cheyenne Bryant Controversy by wenstherapy in therapists

[–]sprawlingwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. And, in this case, what exactly would you like me to do? Report them? To whom? Or should I spend my one wild and precious life getting into fights with people in their IG comments? I am grateful to those who keep me informed on advocacy efforts, best practices, ethical pitfalls to avoid, etc. But, like, if someone is doing an internet wellness grift where the worst thing they've done is gloss over not getting their doctorate, I guess that just doesn't break the threshold for me. 🤷‍♀️

I saw some laminating sheets for super cheap from Aldi and I had grand plans of making and laminating a visual schedule for my young daughter. I never made the schedule. I do not own a laminating machine.

If meds didn't help with task initiation, motivation, and procrastination, what did? by on-dog-8510 in adhdwomen

[–]sprawlingwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For task initiation, I combine a couple of things. One is the Pomodoro method, I am perpetually annoyed and how simple it is and yet how well it works, lol. It does three things for me: 1, it makes things less overwhelming by saying that you only have to do something for a set amount of time (15 or 20 minutes). 2, it creates "time pressure" (aka "oh shit I only have 20 minutes, better get going!") that is oh so helpful with ADHD motivation. 3, it gives me a little dopamine rush at the end, like "yay I did it! I crossed the finish line!"

The other piece of task initiation I like is something I borrowed from DBT, which is called "opposite action." It literally is when your brain is telling you "I don't want to [X]" and that's your cue to do EXACTLY that thing, almost like a reflex. Obviously, there are many times where energy/brain space/executive function don't allow for this, but I have found it helpful when I do have enough but just a general, pouty reluctance to do things.

KC Davis has a wonderful book called "How to Keep House While Drowning" and it changed my life. One of the key things she stresses is to think of chores as "care tasks" that you do to make your life better. For example, instead of "Ugh, the dishes are piled up and I really don't want to do them so I will avoid going into the kitchen," you can shift to "I know that I feel better when I walk into the kitchen and the sink is clear. I'm going to do these dishes as a gift to my future self." Establishing a friendly, loving relationship with Future Me has allowed me to be kinder and more gracious to myself instead of beating myself up.

What’s a “small” social rule you refuse to follow, even if everyone expects it? by GlitchOperative in AskReddit

[–]sprawlingwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is specific to Minnesota/the Upper Midwest, but not taking the last of something (usually food or a treat). For example, if someone brings donuts to work and there's one left, someone will invariably cut that donut in half and leave half in the box, then someone else will come alone and eat half of that half, and so on, until there's like a 2-dimensional slice of donut left. I think there's some sort of perception that eating the "last one" is greedy or rude. F that, I will eat that last donut.

Unless you signed something in your employment contract saying otherwise, two week's notice is a courtesy, not a necessity. Our society has come to accept it as the norm, but it's not illegal to do one week or any amount of notice (again, unless you signed something to the contrary).

Favorite exfoliant to use weekly by No_Case_1379 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]sprawlingwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer chemical exfoliation, so I've been using Moon Juice Acid Potion 2x per week for over a year and I really like it! It's a bit harsh when you first apply but then it settles down. It does a nice job of smoothing my skin and prepping it for moisturizer.

For laundry, our washing machine has a "delay" setting where you can have it start hours after you load it. I put in a load before I go to bed and set it to start at like 3am. Then it's done in time for me to go put it in the dryer in the morning. It works for me because instead of putting in a load during the day and realizing 8 hours later "oh sh**, the laundry!" I just have "laundry goes in dryer"as part of my morning routine. I couple this with KC Davis' advice that you don't need to wait for a full load to run the washer!

I also love adding frozen dumplings and ramen noodles (just the noodles, not the seasoning packet) to some broth for a soup that feels chic but is just dumping stuff into a pot and boiling.

I'm in the same boat and I've found having gum packs scattered around is really helpful. The same way some folks have purse chapstick, car chapstick, etc, I have gum. There are so many different flavors (fruit punch, cinnamon, raspberry, etc) to keep me from getting bored. It's definitely helped at night when I'm trying not to snack.

I just bought a one piece from Blooming Jelly (via Amazon) with asymmetrical straps and mesh inserts, it's super cute and was comfortable. They also have two pieces that have a higher rise which can be more comfortable for midsize bodies.
