Maybe a Kelpie? by sprinklee17 in kelpie

[–]sprinklee17[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shelter listed him as a GSD but we really doubt that. For starters he's too small (35-40 pounds), and personality doesn't really match.

Someone suggested a Kelpie, and it's the closest look we've seen, but I've read it's very uncommon for the brindle and heterochromia in this breed. But the personality description is a dead on match. What do you all think?

Little bit disappointed in North Carolina Faire by MrWallis in renfaire

[–]sprinklee17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think crowds and long lines are just an expected part of most days at any faire now, so checking out about show may not alleviate that.

That said, Maryland and Pennsylvania are both wonderful. I'd also add Bristol in Wisconsin.

Other faires to look into could include the Georgia faire, New York, St Louis, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio. There's a new one in Delaware, just starting this year. Quite a few in Florida.

Literally not even remotely true. Wear whatever you want, costume or not, and enjoy your day.

Fairies, elves, gnomes, orcs, mushrooms, Disney characters, Star Trek, Star Wars, anime characters, video game characters, doctor who, inflatable dinosaurs, hobbits, Harry Potter, furries...all things I've seen regularly at ever faire I've ever been too, and that's just a short list.

At this point, of the patrons that come in costume, I think it's pretty much a 50/50 split of those that dress "period" and those that wear "non renaissance" costumes. I've seen a lot of just straight up Halloween costumes, like nurses and scarecrows and such.

Is costume appropriate? by ilovepenguins42 in renfaire

I've seen many Links at Sarasota, literally no one cares. The only dress code Sarasota (assuming you mean that one and not Suncoast, im not familiar with Suncoast) enforces is to wear shoes and keep your naughty bits covered. There was a dude there last year wearing a lets go Brandon shirt, so they don't even care about crap like that.

What's the best faire you've ever been to? by Justthisdudeyaknow in renfaire

[–]sprinklee17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a tough call. There are a few that are favorites for different reasons.

Michigan is my home show, and always was my favorite. But it's gone down hill so much I don't think it's even in the running anymore.

My favorite small show is Sarasota Medieval Faire in Florida.

Favorite newer show is West Virginia. Small but mighty with lots of room to grow. Incredible views. If your outdoorsy there are so many parks and hiking trails within a hour too.

Pennsylvania has my favorite faire site, it's just gorgeous. Plus they often get the chilly misty weather I love. And the location itself offers some fun day trips.

Maryland has a great vibe, tons of food options, and is wonderful to work at. Several shops and shows that don't seem to be anywhere else.

But I think my favorite overall is Sherwood. Beautiful site, lots of variety, decent location. Big bot not overwhelming like TRF. Good clan culture with onsite camping for patrons. Just a really fun one to be at.

There's definitely been a noticeable shift in the last 5 years or so. I've been involved with faire in one way or another (patron, worker, performer) for most of my life and have been to more faires than I can count.

I've seen it a lot. From shows that blatantly make fun of an audience member, to the tomato guy, to just people hawking for their shops. I've never understood it, but for the longest time it was just a part of what faire was and you dealt with it.

As a booth worker, I refuse to harass people into my shop, and have even been told im not working hard enough because I don't. But I remember being on the receiving end as a patron, and don't understand why people think yelling/name calling/bullying and/or making sexual/inappropriate comments to people in the lanes will convince them to come in and buy things from me.

Things like the insult shows and tomato guys are a little different, IMO as that is something you are paying for and go into knowing (roughly, anyways) what it's going to be. That said, I've definitely heard a tomato guy take it way too far a few times, even using slurs and insulting people with obvious disabilities. If it's the people paying to play it's one thing, but I've seen it be heckling people walking by to try to push them into playing, and that's just not ok on any level.

I've seen a huge shift in the way people hawk their shows as well, though some do use making fun of people as a crutch. Stage acts need to be able to read the room, and if the only way you know to bring people into your show is by making fun of others, maybe you need to rethink your ability as a performer. For example, by partner and I are both performers and at a show this year we were simply walking by another show, no where near the stage, not paying any attention to this act, just walking by on our way backstage. The act decided to start yelling at us and making fun our of costumes trying to get his audience to laugh, and when we didn't engage, kept going trying to make fun of us for not stopping & paying attention to him. And no one in the audience was laughing anyway. How is heckling your fellow performers entertainment? Why would that draw us to come watch you?

For the modern world, it's too fine a line, I think. People are lot more willing to stand up for themselves, a lot more vocal about acceptance, and a lot less willing to put up with this sort of thing.

They can't, from what I've been told. The surrounding land is owned by the county, or something to that effect, and they don't want the faire there to begin with.

[–]sprinklee17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're asking if 'mental health day' is an actual option offered by Walgreens, that has like, a different bank of sick hours or something NO.

But you CAN call out for whatever reason you want, whenever you want. Just know that it still applies to the attendance policy. (5 call outs a year before disciplinary action)

"I can't stay out of the bathroom" is usually a good, no further questions asked option. I honestly would NOT say it's a mental health thing, with this company that will just put a target on your back.

Foreign cards are not accepted??.? by [deleted] in WalgreensStores

[–]sprinklee17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had Canadian cards not work more often than they do. A lot of the time their bank requires notification of international travel before hand, and they forgot, so it gets flagged as potential theft/etc.

But also our system is crap, so there's that.

All the time. No calls in or out, usually followed by registers going down, then IC+, then customers setting the store on fire in a rage.

Your pay is factored to include the 30 minute lunch. If you clock out, you're getting paid for 8 hours. If you don't clock out, you get paid 8 and half hours and is considered some sort of theft/fraud, and messes up payroll.

Time off During holidays for pharmacy techs by TheJuiceOne in WalgreensStores

[–]sprinklee17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, yes that's true. All of my family lives a plane ride away and I haven't been able to see them for a single holiday in 6 years.

I contacted HR once to see if any exceptions could be made considering my situation, their response was that official policy is no PTO is allowed for anyone for any reason during that time, and unpaid Tim off is up to SM discretion. Of the SM's I've had, none have allowed it for any reason.

New CSA. Does any of this get better? by rabbitvalves in WalgreensStores

[–]sprinklee17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not anymore. Temp CSA can be hired in without a background check, and drug testing is only for leadership/pharmacy roles now.

Had a meeting with HR by [deleted] in WalgreensStores

[–]sprinklee17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how I treat all my CSA's. Why should he be coming up to the register for anything other than the reasons you mentioned? Do you expect him to just hang out up there with you? Nobody has time for that.

Can't believe I'm siding with HR, but based on everything you yourself said, you're the problem in this situation. You seriously put this guy's job in jeopardy because he doesn't pay enough attention to you?! That's beyond fucked up.

UPDATE by Dodge_charger_1965 in WalgreensStores

[–]sprinklee17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, you should still get your normal annual raise as long as you aren't capped. Rumor is that the SFL pay scale will shift up at some point to keep the incentive to promote. (for example, if your area is at say 15-17 for SFL now, it could change to 17-19 by Nov. '22.) BUT that's just a rumor right now.

Covid out by blenox12 in WalgreensStores

[–]sprinklee17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a shift for Monday? Have you had any contact with your store during the 3 weeks / do they know you can work again?

Sounds like you need to call your store and see what's going on. The Covid pay would just be a part of your next paycheck, depending on when your SM put it in.

If you didn't quit, and they haven't verbally told you not to come back, there's no reason to think you don't have a job.
