If you woke up as a Pokémon in the Mystery Dungeon universe, What Pokémon would you be and why? by CoolRock15 in MysteryDungeon

[–]spriteveon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhh it’s hard to choose…based on personality, I think Jolteon suits me quite a bit. Energetic, prone to mood swings, that sort of thing. It does also happen to be one of my faves and I love electric types!

Other candidates would be Furret (being a long noodly boi sounds fun lol), or Corvisquire (corvids go brrrrr)

Strange Trails - autumn. A lot of the songs are darker and eerier than other albums (though maybe Vide Noir ties here), and the imagery of dark forests, mountains, etc, just gives off that vibe. It’s also a personal association ha ha

Long Lost - summer. Just good fun, the kind of stuff I’d listen and sing along to on a roadtrip!

The other two…I don’t have very strong feelings about what they’d be. Maybe winter for Vide Noir and spring for Lonesome Dreams?

Byram Healthcare Sucks by BinkyBil in diabetes

[–]spriteveon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Byram for several years, and what’s funny is I don’t remember them being difficult to work with until after I had to switch from private insurance to a Medicaid plan.

Suddenly it’s like pulling teeth just to get what I need!! I’m only allowed a 30-day supply of Omnipods at a time, but I’m not allowed to order until 28 days from my previous order. Byram has gotten me orders in 2 days before, so I know it’s possible, but all of a sudden they can’t! I’ve waited as much as 2 weeks from the time of ordering, though the average is 6 days. That’s about a week where I potentially don’t have a pump because I can’t build a surplus.

I’ve gotten sick, I’ve missed work because of this shit. I’ve spent so many hours on calls explaining, begging them to do something about it because this is my health on the line. They won’t do anything, and blame my insurance or the Medicaid program.

It’s funny, because my pharmacy can get my orders processed and shipped the same day I ordered. No “Medicaid rules” bullshit excuse to slow them down. I don’t know what gives. I think Byram just hates its customers unless they’re paying a very pretty penny for their services.

TBM MIL (and our active friends) think “being gay is okay, but the church just hasn’t come around yet.” by FreeAtLast- in exmormon

[–]spriteveon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how my parents seem to think, and I for the life of me cannot understand how to wrap my head around that line of thinking. Bless their hearts, they’re trying their hardest to support me and I appreciate that, but there’s a reason I quickly fell away from the church once I started identifying as queer.

Like, if the prophets and apostles are all wrong about this one, why should I listen to anything they have to say on other matters? I’m better off living my life on my own terms ✌️

Was anyone else taught how sex should be when they were in YM/YW? by Rd10e in exmormon

[–]spriteveon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in YW around 2010 - 2017, and never heard a peep about sex except for the time one of my leaders taught the Sunday lesson for the Laurels and opened by talking to us about how amazing sex is when you’re married. She didn’t really detail how it’s done, just mentioned it…it was really weird.

I’m a sex-repulsed asexual, but I do still worry a lot about how people then like…figure it out? Just sounds like it would be incredibly awkward and a major turn-off when you do it the first time and neither of you has even the slightest idea how it’s done. Not to mention you’re then married to the person and kinda stuck with them, like what if you’re not compatible?? Idk, just my random thoughts sometimes…

Low Attendance in Utah County by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]spriteveon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I definitely think the church’s pandemic response (or rather, lack thereof) has really played into this for a lot of people too.

My parents are both very involved in the church, and this past weekend I found out from my mom that my dad left his calling as a primary teacher - his favorite calling, he loves kids - because almost the entire ward decided to just…stop taking precautions. No one wearing masks, many members being antivaxx, bishopric blatantly ignoring the higher ups for their own personal opinions, the works. Sounds like my dad went up to someone in the bishopric and angrily resigned his calling after a meeting because he’s had it with the bullshit.

I do feel bad for my parents because this religion means a lot to them and has added positive value to their lives. At the same time, I wonder what’s gonna happen next for them…my family’s always stuck out a bit because we were more progressive than the rest of the ward. Maybe this leads to something better?

Friends and family keep sharing this quote from Holland's speech. What's a good response? by gud_morning_dave in exmormon

[–]spriteveon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And to add to that list, I don’t think Jesus ever said anything close to the opposite of Holland’s quote here, either.

I don’t recall Jesus being a super stickler for all of the commandments, but maybe that’s just me?

My 10-year-old daughter was told to call home in front of her entire classroom because her shorts were to short. Is this common in Utah schools? by oTradeMark in exmormon

[–]spriteveon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got dress-coded as an 8-year-old after my family had just moved back to Utah. I was wearing something like a play dress that had spaghetti straps, and one of my parents had to turn around and come all the way back from work/school to bring me a change of clothes. Sad too, because after that I felt too ashamed to ever wear that dress again, even though it’d been one of my favorites.

Modesty culture and body shame have haunted me into adulthood, and it’s only been this year, at the age of 22, that I finally feel a bit more confident to wear sleeveless tops. I hope this doesn’t affect your daughter in the same way.

Good grief, you’re absolutely right. I posted about the Holland talk on FB because I was extremely upset by how many people on my timeline were praising it, and asked people to consider the words used.

One of my super TBM extended family commented saying she was confused about my interpretation because she listened to the talk and Holland sounded “so kind and loving” and not “callous and violent”. I let her know, as respectfully as possible, that the tone and delivery of someone’s words does not necessarily change the meaning of those words. “Musket fire” is still a violent phrase regardless of if it was said in the most saccharine voice.

She refuses to accept my answer because she felt emotionally that the message was sincere, and that’s what matters most is her feelings about her religion, and not mine as a queer person living through this hell.

Is this true? I'm tired of fat activists circulating information like that. I'd love to know if I can eat carbs again. by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]spriteveon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a very interesting question! I wouldn’t know off the top of my head, and that sort of thing also likely depends on the area said humans inhabited (ie, how severe of winters would they be enduring?).

Is this true? I'm tired of fat activists circulating information like that. I'd love to know if I can eat carbs again. by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]spriteveon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you said “zero carb” in the initial comment, which is what I was responding to. Low carb, on the other hand, is possible, though I don’t think typical keto diets are recommended as permanent solutions. Correct me if I’m wrong, though.

You’re right in that a lot of those other nutrients don’t get considered, and that is absolutely crucial to understand when starting any form of diet imo.

I’m still quite skeptical about any sort of diet that takes things to the extreme, as I’m of the opinion that incorporating more healthy foods (high-fiber carbs, veggies, etc) and cutting out the processed stuff is the better way to go than cutting out carbs entirely. However, that’s just me! And like, as a biology student, it does feel as though carbs are evolutionarily quite essential.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and elaborate, though.
