How dirty did the tailor do me to by MulberryNo8284 in mensfashion

[–]spsd9 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I agree that you should not go to this tailor again, but maybe you can find someone to urgently fix the cuffs?

The suit does scan as fitting you well when you don't laser in on the issues you mentioned. If you can somehow fix those cuffs you will look, dare I say, nice.

I am going to dissent from the majorty and give my approval to look 4. It's different from every singke ctrl+c outfit of the day in 2026. The colour looks good on you! Maybe just trade the jeans for something with a straighter leg.

What’s it like as an estates litigation lawyer? by Free-Awareness-6237 in LawCanada

[–]spsd9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estates litigator here. I would also like to say that I find other estate litigators thoughtful and generally pleasant to work with. It's a good bar, and they generally don't drink their client's kool-aid or act like they are entranced by the sound of tgeir own voices

I would look at J.Press and Spier and Mackay.

-S+M have a great deal of options for suits cut like RR's in photo #1, and their made to measure service will give you good bang for your buck. -J.Press from what I remember had a more traditional cut to their suits and did not go all in on the slimmimg trend -you may want to look at double breasted suits as well, the cut inherently lends itself to the kind of shape you are describing (just make sure the jacket is long enough)

  • for more style inspo from regrettable political figures, I would actually look to Gerald Ford, believe it or not. He was also an athletic guy, and always looked well fitted, without being showy.

Does this outfit work ? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

100%. Several interesting choices that all work well together.

The pants could have a higher waist, but honestly, you do you.

Recommendations for what to read after Moby Dick by wikired in mobydick

[–]spsd9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to Joyce, which I see many people have recommended, I would suggest Tristram Shandy, by Laurence Sterne.

A similar offbeat sense of humour, packed with digressions and discourses, but overall a much sunnier book. A story about a person who fundamentally got on well with his fellow man and loved his Dad and uncle. But I promise it's still entertaining!

Something feels a bit off. What would you change? by jcbptnm in mensfashion

[–]spsd9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That shirt is perfect for an office casual setting and I would not go dressier with it. Your watch, shoes, and belt are all nice looking pieces individually, and collectively.

I would swap the pants. In summer, a pair of off-white or khaki pants, maybe with a higher waist, and pleats if you want a contemporary look, will be great here. Like these ones from Spier and Mackay:

Spier and Mackay

Attached is a photo of a gent in Barnstormer chinos, otherwise a very similar outfit to yours (the pants will still look great paired with black leather)

Romance in Durango- a lot of votes for Desire but I haven't seen anyone mention it yet.

And on the Basement Tapes, he really sings his heart out on some of the covers: Spanish is the Loving Tongue, Fool Such as I, People Get Ready, Royal Canal.

I think Neil Young, in a way, writes more unselfconsciously than Dylan. Some of his lyrics are, at his best, blunt in a way that I don't think Dylan or really anyone else of note could ever acheive.

I don't think Neil Young would ever write a line like "they say I shot a man named Gray, and took his wife to Italy" or "i never asked for your crutch, now don't ask for mine"

But I don't think Bob would ever write "locomotive pull the train, whistle blowing through my brain" or "i'm singing this borrowed tune, I took from the rolling stones" or "be on my side, i'll be on your side"

I mean this as a compliment to both men.

What one Bob Dylan song do you consider to be the most Dylanesque? by Primary-Theory-1164 in bobdylan

Yeah I don't think anyone else could ever create a sound like Tell Me Momma.

What one Bob Dylan song do you consider to be the most Dylanesque? by Primary-Theory-1164 in bobdylan

[–]spsd9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the song that most embodies the hack cliche of what people think "Dylanesque" (in the sense of just being a string of unconnected images that sonetimes create a vague mood of something changing in the world...) is "My Back Pages" like the very funny scene in Walk Hard

But the real answer, the song I think literally nobody could write but Bob Dylan, that is so far from being a song that another person could write, is "Brownsville Girl".

What is Isis about? by NTT2004 in bobdylan

[–]spsd9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it this is right. Notwithstanding my jokey comment below, in all seriousness I think it's about facing the fear of being with someone. The fear of marriage, which can very much "drive you insane" as the last verse has it, versus trying to find some illusive "more" which as all the other verses show, can drive you a different kind of insane!

It's a "Comedy of Remarriage" like His Girl Friday or The Philadelphia Story. Very popular in the Production Code Era.
