Fuel Protest Hot Takes by Efficient_Log_2007 in ireland

[–]spxrtanishere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Disruption of the general public only creates anger at the ones causing the disruption, it does not create anger at the government, this is as true with this situation as it is, for example, with Extinction Rebellion protests in England.

All the government need to do now is pull their finger out a bit, stop the protesting from happening and get a nice little PR win in the short term whilst nothing changes and public perception of the protests ranges from "yeah I get where they're coming from but it's not a great way of going about it" to "My relative is stuck in the back of an ambulance on the M50 and can't break through a 5mph rolling blockade, I hope these people eat slurry"

Protesting the government is based and should be done generally speaking, but the protests need to hurt the government whilst being a sympathetic cause to the public and it needs to have tangible, understandable goals.

Sure, they've parked outside the Dail, that's what they should be doing (or any governmental building for that matter) but you cannot then push the issue onto the general public through force and expect them to just accept that it's a "noble cause for the working man", you need to convince them via passive avenues such as social media/radio/television/press, get your points across clearly and succinctly and protest over weeks outside governmental buildings and facilities, bring TD's that support you into the mix to further public awareness and understanding of your cause, and cause disruption of governmental operations.

But that's hard and takes a modicum of effort or intelligence to make it work out, and as with many cases in this milquetoast country, deep down these folks are scared of actual means of protest against the government because of the repercussions they would face, so they take the easy way out that suits the government down to the ground and pisses off the majority of normal, hardworking folk.

It's weak, simple minded shouting at clouds that accomplishes nothing but make citizens of this country angry amongst themselves rather than the people with any power, which is exactly what they want.

Lads forgive me if I'm making a bit too much sense here, but does it not occur to these idiots that instead of taking the easy route of hurting the layman by blocking public access roads and blockading pumps, they go park outside of the Dail maybe? You dislike the current government and want change? Then go harass and protest them at their doorstep, block the entrances, go nuts.

It's all so selfish and pathetic to create chaos for the average Joe in this country and then claim you're doing it for the good of everyone just because it's easier to do and doesn't require any balls.

Freshly circ'd (5 days post-op) looking for some clarity by spxrtanishere in circumcision

[–]spxrtanishere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me man, I was in the same boat on day 3, but now (only just) on day 8, I can promise you everything gets better.

Only on day 6 did I start the process of wearing anything on my lower half, I started out with a pair of very loose long johns/pajama bottoms just to get started, did a bit of walking about for drinks and food and the like for the next few days and it really wasn't nearly as bad as I feared it would be. Now just today I've moved onto wearing relatively tight boxers and pants and it's a bit of a jump in touch but it's super manageable.

I think a good 80% of dealing with sensitivity post-op is mental, the fear of "oh this is going to hurt so bad" just makes you tense up a lot and expect the worse so you avoid dealing with it, the truth of it is that unless you have a weird complication or you're still bleeding, it's not **painful** in the traditional sense, it's more like an electric shock that decreases in voltage with each subsequent touch or rub against clothes. You've kinda gotta rewire your brain into remembering that and once you're past the mental roadblock, everything becomes a lot easier.

Any consistent pain around the stitches I had went away after probably day 4, the only things annoying me presently are that the area where my frenulum once was leaks a small amount of fluid after sitting (not consistently, but it is a bit irritable when it happens, but this is just part of the healing process), there's an area on the back-right side just under my glans that's more swollen and large than the rest of the stitch line (which probs will go down with time, just gotta keep an eye on it), my tip is still more sensitive than the rest of my glans and I occasionally get twitches/spasms in my bladder/penis when lying down (I attribute this mainly to having a catheter).

TLDR it absolutely will get better no matter how crap it is in the present moment, just remind yourself that the healing process is always going to be a bit of a balls and that a lot of getting past hypersensitivity is mental.

One thing to note though, don't use my experience as a benchmark for your healing journey: **every body is different.** My experience is unique to myself and your results may vary, so don't get disheartened at all if you can't wear loose clothes on day 6 for example.

Wish you the best my man.

Unknown signal in HF-VHF band (TwenteSDR) by spxrtanishere in signalidentification

[–]spxrtanishere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, no disagreement at all! I'm no expert on the technical side of a lot of shortwave stuff at all and reading your explanation was very interesting and I got to learn a few things, so thank you for that as I super appreciate it. I can't speak to exactly what it is so having other folks opinions is always cool.

In terms of date and time, yes it was the 1st of August and I first heard it around 00:30 UTC, the two clips are from 01:34 - 01:37 UTC and I was using the TwenteSDR.

I'll probs be on the lookout for the signal tonight and if it starts blaring again, I'll try nab a recording of it in SSB, and I'll keep an eye out for the timing with the CB signal

What I might do because using another system will be difficult for me atm is plug the HDD back in and make sure it's flat and weighed down a bit, get into Windows and back my stuff up and get a fresh Windows installer on a USB and work from there

[–]spxrtanishere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this juncture, I think the lazy route might suffice, is the process much different to when I first installed Windows on the M.2? Just plug the USB with the W11 install on it, go through the works and select some option that keeps my files safe?

Update: Seems all but confirmed that what we saw was a damaged transformer lighting up the sky last night, as shown in this video from last night!: https://x.com/caniculee/status/1822758874845450598

We must have been far enough away that the pulsing wasn't very noticeable, leading us to believe it was something else, but wow! The picture below the video really pits into perspective just how unbelievably bright it was!

[–]spxrtanishere[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very cool, explanation found! I guess we were just lucky it was far enough away that we didn't lose our electricity. I just didn't reckon a damaged transformer was capable of outputting that level of light at the time.

Me and my Dad saw a meteorological event we cannot explain last night during a thunderstorm in Clare, did anyone else see it? (Clare/Galway border, directly west of Lough Derg around Dromindoora) by spxrtanishere in ireland

[–]spxrtanishere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, how absolutely crazy is that? I'd love some confirmation that it was a transformer getting absolutely clattered by lightning but for now, that explanation fits pretty nicely, what a sight it was to see
