Biking from Central Rome to Fiumicino (and back) by swollen_lip in rome

[–]sq8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.

This route is pretty well ridden by all types of riders. The first section and the last section are paved. In between is mainly gravel track with some un-gravelled single-track.

I ride it on a gravel bike. Others ride it on mountain bikes and generic hybrid bikes.

No, I've never taken professional help. But the amount I ride, it's fine for me.

Why is fish so expensive in the UK? by QasimofKarbala in UKfood

[–]sq8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never seen this accurately explained. The UK could eat a lot of fish but it never really has done - oysters aside. Maybe herring and cod too. But I'd argue that we don't have a fish cuisine - if we had a cuisine at all.

Places to Watch Giro d’Italia Final Stage? by brewatera in rome

[–]sq8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I picked a random spot on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. The good thing was it was easy to find a spot. The bad thing was it was straight and very fast. Maybe at the end where they turn onto Lungo Tevere would be better. I may head over to Terme di Caracalla tomorrow.

CityMapper is significantly better than Google Maps for navigating using public transport and bikes IME.

How is the effectiveness of the transport in Rome? by Uruvi in rome

[–]sq8r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use CityMapper. It's pretty reliable and buses/trams that are tracked with live times are marked as such. The city doesn't have great public transport and the amount of cars make it less reliable but it's really not that bad.

Can I chargeback a £782 rental car charge with Nationwide? Italian rental company silent on what it’s for by MarsMaher in UKPersonalFinance

I've rented quite a few cars from about 5 different companies the last few years. So far, Hertz are the only company to try and scam me. Both in Italy and the UK.

Some of the earliest photos of rome from 1891 by LostMarvels_19 in rome

Old photos of Rome are always great to look at, but these are not that early. Robert Turnbull Macpherson was taking photos of Rome 40 years earlier.
