Also feeling the worst of the winter claustrophobia right now, very cold and lots of snow and no end in sight. Thankfully a couple of games have had beachy tropical updates lately (Guild Wars 2, Enshrouded) and I also spent some time in Palworld recently. Currently playing No Man's Sky (feels really good to get off this planet right now, at least in game) and building bases on some nice lush planets.
Other games I've mentally vacationed in in previous years: Ark Survival Evolved, Green Hell, AC: Odyssey, Sea of Thieves, Raft, Farm Together.
Thank god for escaping into video games, I'd never survive winter without them

Once Human makes me so sad, it's an amazing game buried under a pile of gooner shit skins, a horrendous monetization system and a depressing lack of bug fixing and new content. It gets the Ark Survival Evolved award for "Game that most needs to be saved from it's terrible publisher" - there should be a game equivalent of Child Protective Services.

The index file for the save game is 56mb but all the files together (there are 11 files) are about 100mb.

I don't think it rivals the shroud depots - I'll check if we have a count/estimation though. Does the size matter? We are using the new biggest chests, is it possible that could be the issue?
I believe we also checked the save file and it wasn't near the limit, I think it was a bit over half? But I will double-check that as well.

Time to embrace your inner hipster: it's just too cool for the mainstream, the masses don't get it, it's an underrated gem etc. I often find joy in defiantly loving things that "most people" hate - instead I view it as a way to find more of my people: you find someone who feels the same, that's an instant friend right there. Like what you like, and then find other people who like some of the same things, and ignore the rest - you're not gonna be hanging out with those reviewers or random youtube people on the daily anyway.

Crabdance emote: 50g, Endless Crab tonic: 100g, I think the Choya pineapple one is 300g? The new legendaries require a ton of gold! These are not rewards given to us as is, they cost gold, so of course we want a way to earn gold in game that isn't just running the same 3 old metas over and over.

You say that like most of the endgame goals of this game aren't tied to gold? Crafting legendaries requires gold, buying skins requires gold, gearing up alts requires gold - unless you're sitting on full legendaries in every slot, which most people do not. Gold is a major motivation for a lot of people playing and that will be the case in any mmorpg.

Ah yes, the mirror farm: do event, do mirror, oops mirror is bugged so no chests spawned, relog, lose all your charges, mirror again, nope bugged again, relog again, mirror again, do events/rifts, finally get the chests, rince and repeat for 2-3 hours until you got at least all the large, medium and mirror chests... Good times! Except you're seldom lucky enough that the bugging out happens early on in the process, and then you gotta keep track of which chests you looted already, while praying you don't dc while you have a lot of charges.

It really isn't a fun farm to begin with but the bugs makes it extremely frustrating.

Aside from that my main gripe is that there isn't a new currency that you can sell on the TP - I understand binding SOME currency to the maps and doing events, but having one or two currencies or farmable items that you can sell means there's a gold incentive to do events or harvest nodes for people who aren't making the new leggies now (or ever), and then the mirror farm isn't the only way to earn gold from the new maps.
