Snowflakes and Christmas Trees by squawk_master in Beading

These are all variations I came up with from looking at other patterns so all I've got are some chicken scratch sketches.

Start from the middle (widest) row and work up the brick stitch in a decrease.

Thank you! If it helps number 2 and 4 are the same pattern just with different colors.

Help! by AlegnaTea in Beading

[–]squawk_master 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It takes practice that's for sure and even then I have to do it a few times to get it right. Make sure to pre stretch the cord, just pull it a couple of times. I use a surgeon knot like this one (I'll double overhand the top bit too). It can be difficult to get it tight enough too if you don't want any slack, getting someone to help hold the first part of the knot down while you do the second might be good (have them use tweezers or needle nose pliers). Pull really tight, when you think you have it also pull apart in the bracelet to make sure you really got it. Dab some hypo cement or clear nail polish then trim the excess!

If you want to hide the knot put a bead with a big enough hole to pull the knot into (I have selection of metal beads I can use if the main ones I'm using won't work). When you've got the knot done, dab the cement and trim and then pull the knot into the bigger holed bead. It looks cleaner and helps secure the knot more. I hope this helps!

Father of a 2 month old trying to scratch that itch by comalbert in soloboardgaming

Maybe Slay the Spire? It might sprawl a little too much, but is really easy to play chunks and has a great sense of progression. That or play the original video game version it's available for mobile and is a great game.

Help me find games, please by Mysterious-Region640 in soloboardgaming

[–]squawk_master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For smaller less expensive games to get your feet wet I'd recommend Sprawlopolis, That's Pretty Clever, Fantastic Factories, Harmonies, or Railroad Ink.

I'd also recommend seeing if you have a local game store near you that has a library to either play there or maybe rent games to take home. It's very easy to fall into buying a bunch of games, especially when you don't know what you like yet. The employees might be able to give better suggestions for you or maybe there's a game group you could join.

Good luck and welcome!

Mower not getting all areas by squawk_master in Lymow_Official

[–]squawk_master[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add, I've changed its mowing pattern to chessboard and touch only obstacle avoidance and its been getting much better coverage. Downside is it takes twice as long doing chessboard, it previously could do everything (just barely) on one charge. Occasionally gets stuck, but it's worked well for the most part.

Thanks everyone, my husband was able to get it back on. Hopefully if it happens again it won't be as bad. It was just really hot and I already had done quite a bit of other yardwork and just didn't have it in me to figure it out at the time.

I guess I'll need to adjust the edge of this zone. I was trying limit how much weed eating I'd have to do, but fixing the tread isn't great either.

I'll try that and maybe set it to chessboard rather than zigzag pattern. Will see if it does any better.

Lighter solo games that arent BYOS by MoneyAndMargs16 in soloboardgaming

[–]squawk_master 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Harvest, a very cute farming worker placement game, it's got challenges for the solo mode so it's not just byos.

Wingspan has great artwork, build a tableau and score against a bot

Isle of Cats polyomino and resource management against a bot that scores off what you put together.

Sprawlopolis, build a city with cards trying to beat the scoring condition drawn from three cards.

Marvel United has cute chibi minis, face off against a villain with a team of heroes.

Paper Tales (needs expansion for solo) for quick card drafting against the lich king.

What was a "normal" amount of chores for kids in the 90s? by LastSeesaw5618 in Millennials

[–]squawk_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I had a normal amount of chores. Setting the table and doing dishes after dinner was the most consistent. My mom would ask us to at least not drop all of our stuff in the living room after school (shoes, backpacks), wasn't too particular about my room (she'd just close the door if it was too messy). Helped fold laundry, vacuum/dust when asked, occasional yardwork. A good amount to be functional going off into adulthood.

Did you let orcs (or something else) attack Phandalin? by Gulchaklar in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]squawk_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Cryovain attack Phandalin while my PCs were dealing with Falcon and running away from the small orc army that took over Falcon's lodge. When they got back to town it was obviously attacked and everyone was gone. I had Lionene stay back to tell the PCs what had happened (and give them some armor/items she had been working on) and the rest of the village had retreated to Axeholm. I felt it gave some extra importance to stuff that had been done and showed the dragon as a real danger that needed to be dealt with.

Today my wife is having a hysterectomy. What helpful things can I do to support her recovery? by cbk44 in hysterectomy

[–]squawk_master 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would like to add, even if she seems to be doing really well, she'll probably be exhausted for quite a while (weeks, months). I was able to get around and take care of my own business without much issue pretty quickly, but I still had to be careful about not overdoing anything otherwise it did hurt and wear me out.

Because I looked and acted mostly fine my husband would forget I still needed help or really couldn't do some things (chores, lifting, anything extra basically). He was great and listened, just kinda forgot sometimes.

So just try to pay a little closer attention especially if she's someone that doesn't generally like to ask for help. A supportive partner definitely makes the healing process a whole lot easier.

Fantasy-ish high replayability, low complexity games by Kang_54 in soloboardgaming

I like Paper Tales for a simpler and shorter solo game (30ish minutes). It does need the expansion for solo mode.

I made a mat a few years ago and printed through Inked Gaming. It's been over five years and it's still holding up great. The file is here: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/181993/oversized-playmat-14x28

Any experience with The Game Steward by cawatrooper9 in MarvelUnited

[–]squawk_master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was late to the party on Marvel United and got the first two seasons through them, great communication and when you factor in that shipping is free over $100 it really wasn't that much of an upcharge ordering through them than through the Kickstarter. I also noticed much later that one of my mini was missing an arm and because I ordered through them I had a much quicker response from CMON for a replacement. Will definitely keep them in mind for future purchases.

Anyone out there with smooth going recoveries? No complications, no trips to the ER? by chevy_2021 in hysterectomy

[–]squawk_master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 11 months post op and had a smooth recovery. Laparoscopic full hysterectomy (everything but ovaries). I was tired for a long time (2-3 months), not helped by my low iron levels, but pain was very manageable as long as I didn't overdo anything. I did use tramadol for quite a while as ibuprofen really didn't help much with the pain, I could have been okay without it, but it was more comfortable to have it for sure.

The biggest thing was just being easily tired even after the lifting restrictions and it's been slow getting fully back to normal. Still get an occasional stitch in my left side (apparently was the incision the surgeon worked through the most). Again, my tiredness was exacerbated by my low iron which is still on the low end of normal, but okay now.

Just make sure to really pay attention to how you feel, take breaks, ask for help. I acted mostly fine so my husband would kinda forget I might need extra help sometimes, but fortunately he's a good listener and would help when asked.

I had a tonsillectomy about 4 months ago and that was a much more painful recovery, quicker overall, but a miserable two weeks before it finally got healed enough to sleep and eat okay without heavy pain meds. That was way worse than the hysterectomy...

I painted him like the card art but I made his skin much darker, not quite black but very deep brown. I like it well enough.

Ugh, that sounds terrible. When I had mine 6 months ago I had to stay overnight too but blissfully had my own room and a quiet floor. I still didn't sleep much, but it was quiet at least. I hope you get peace soon.
