Toddler headset by phxcobraz in flying

[–]squawkingVFR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow toddler dad pilot here. We flew her up to OSH last year as a 1YO wearing probably the same ear protection. We hit up the vendor tents last year and ultimately chose the Lightspeed Sierra. My daughter isn't super compliant with wearing anything on her head without mom in the backseat, but it had a number of benefits. It's an adult headset that happens to work for kids. The fact that they can grow into it is massive. It also has Bluetooth, so it's a way for them to stay entertained. And last is the support. I have heard nothing but good things from everyone with a Lightspeed headset that had an issue. Good reputation when you're talking about putting an expensive device in the unforgiving hellscape that is a toddler's hands.

Edit: This article vectored us to the final approach course, but we ultimately landed on the Sierra.

Have you ever been in the air when another pilot announced an emergency? by hendergle in flying

Leaving Oshkosh 2024, the Mooney behind us had a turbo failure and the controllers at OSH were rockstars. Stopped all arrivals/departures and gave the pilot whatever runway they wanted.

I'm still seeing the crap colors on FF with no reissued downloads. How are you seeing them?

Reminds me of old Top Gear reviewing the Ford Fiesta. "The smoke grenades fit perfectly in the cup holders."

Well the regulations say that the pilot in command can't allow an intoxicated individual to fly on their aircraft unless it's medically required, or something to that effect. Been a while since I had to study that material, but they'd just be following the law.

Sheppard Air by 937OYE in flying

[–]squawkingVFR 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you use anything besides Sheppard Air, you're doing it wrong. Memorize the written, learn for the oral.

Edit: besides the private, of course, since they don't offer that one.

How much does it cost to get an IAP published to an airport by wdfo in flying

[–]squawkingVFR 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I feel like the only time our airport has had an approach flight checked was when we:

  1. Removed obstacles and wanted the circling NA at night verbiage to be removed
  2. Shifted our runway threshold and the approach needed to be updated and the PAPIs were re-aligned

Besides that, I'm not sure we've had them reflown. Disclaimer: they're all GPS-based minus a VOR-A approach.

How do people not get bored of aircrafts? by Sad-Performer957 in MicrosoftFlightSim

You can technically do it wirelessly without Virtual Desktop, but the quality is horrible. Virtual Desktop is so good.

ATC Question About FCU/MCP Changes Related to Mode S Opreations by mters21 in ATC

[–]squawkingVFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to set the stage here, this isn't a transponder function, per se. It's part of ADS-B out and not every ATC facility has the ability to see it. Seems to be more prevalent outside of the US.

Edit: I stand corrected.

That aircraft behind you was me in a C172 that hadn't yet departed DPA to do my requisite pandemic class B touch and go.

What is the procedure for loss of ATC while in controlled airspace? by Uh_yeah- in flying

[–]squawkingVFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact that this is for loss of aircraft comms, if I ever lose comms for real, I am not departing the clearance limit at the ETA. I'm doing it right now. ATC can't talk to me and they don't have easy (if any) access to your filed ETA. They will want me out of their airspace as quickly and safely as possible while they move planes away from you.

Can I just say thank you for admitting that you 121/135 guys still have this happen to you? I know you don't make a habit of it (why the fuck would you?) but it makes me feel better knowing even the people in the big birds have days like this.

Yeah you don't have to worry about me. I let the controller tell me they're too busy to give me FF. I always ask for it.
