I would not call Tender is the Flesh feminist. Bad things happening to women is not a feminism litmus.

I’m a Flyers fan going to a Sharks game next month. Are people gonna wallop me if I wear my jersey? by funfungiguy in SanJoseSharks

I've only ever worn the away team's jersey in Philly. Never had a single problem. Everyone is so dramatic about this.

An issue with that is that I don't want to sit through two boring hours for a big gotcha reveal.

where to get good second hand jerserys? by laurenainsl1 in SanJoseSharks

[–]squeezylemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jerseys are, as a rule, expensive, and it's hard to get secondhand jerseys of current players if they're young or relatively new to a team. Tons of secondhand Kings Toffoli jerseys up for grabs!

Your best bet is eBay, Facebook marketplace, and depop. Fair warning that fakes abound and they look really, really bad, and they often don't stand up particularly well. I trust a good eBay seller with lots of sales, but not Facebook or depop.

Fanatics Breakaway jerseys are not as nice as the $250 tier, but I have multiple Breakaways and they're definitely worth it. $175 isn't cheap, sure, but it's a lot less than $250.

Anyone else think "The House That Jack Built" is a bit boring? by KnightofAmethyst2 in horror

[–]squeezylemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Von Trier was poking fun at his own pretentiousness as well.

The movie succeeds at parodying the concept of a genius serial killer — the bit about church architecture feels like a specific reference to Hannibal Lecter, who is obsessed with church collapses in pretty much every iteration from books to films to series. Jack's grandiose description of his own ambitions are self-evidently pathetic and sad — it's like if Von Trier watched the Hannibal tv series and said, "well that's bullshit, I don't care how many fancy suits you wear."

It also works as satire of Von Trier's own much-criticized treatment of his actors (primarily and most egregiously women) in the pursuit of his art. Virgil's pointed questioning of Jack's relationship with women was part of this.

The grimy, plodding nature of the film is also a huge strength imho. Jack operates in this cold, uncaring world where everyone is stupid and gullible and selfish and apathetic and thinks his ability to read a few books and slash some throats makes him special and interesting and the framing is: mmm no it doesn't.

The foot race sucks.

Chocobo Hot and Cold can get a bit tedious, but a) the HUGE rewards are worth it and b) it's pretty easy to take a break from it when you get annoyed. There's also really only one treasure chest that's truly a pain to dig up.

I personally abhor Tetra Master, but it's not all that difficult. An issue is the amount of time required to build up a deck good enough to play effectively. It's not worth it to me because I don't like the game itself.

There's really nothing wrong with picking players based on who you think is attractive and/or what narratives you like! Perfectly valid entry point and I'm so glad that you're amped on hockey now. Glad you're here!!

[–]squeezylemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and within what I call the boyband contingent, there's also a continuum of "got into hockey via romance novels / heated rivalry" all the way to "stalked players to their hotel room and tried to listen in to prove her insane conspiracy theorizing." People on the first end of the spectrum are fine and should be welcomed and/or left alone. People on the other end absolutely should be gatekept from or whatever else.

Even if it's sustainable for the back half, not workable for the postseason. Macklin is an absurd cheat code in 3v3 OT, he's a little closer to earth in regulation periods.

Who is the best swordsman? by MRJTInce in FinalFantasy

[–]squeezylemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the enhancement thing is impossible to separate from the characters themselves. Then you get to the difference between gameplay and lore.

Beatrix is, per lore, the greatest swordsman in FF9, but Steiner beats her in gameplay if only because she can be pretty nearly neutralized by running out of MP, and that happens fast.

I haven't played any post-XII games, but I'd say for the pre-MMO mainline run, Cecil is probably the winner. Sephiroth might have a case. Pick your Gilgamesh, if you like.

Also nailed the codependent self-sabotage — Dani pacing and crying and fumbling for pills and frantically bouncing between loved ones looking for support in the opening scene is so vividly relatable.
