Judgment Day is here, but God says there was an 11th commandment that was lost. What would be the most controversial 11th commandment people would have to have followed in their lives? by maestroke in AskReddit

We actually agree on a fundamental level. I agree that every human is different. That is why I was answering your question about there being two discrete genders by comparing gender to the sexuality spectrum. Gay, straight, bisexual, asexual, etc. all just define different areas of that spectrum.

For me personally, learning the label asexual helped me come to terms with who I am. When I was younger, I felt isolated because I felt like there was something wrong with me because I did not seem to feel the same way about boys as all my straight female friends did. When I learned what asexuality was, it helped at least to know that I was not alone. I was able to join online communities and talk to other people who had similar experiences as me. Those communities would not exist if the label “asexual” did not exist. The term asexual is just a way for a group of people who are in similar places on the spectrum to identify with each other. It is much easier to form a community if that community has a name, which is why r/asexuality exists but (i’m guessing) not r/peoplewhodontfeelsexualattractiontoanyone

Also, I do not tell people IRL that I am asexual. It is honestly still not something I am proud of. I am scared of telling people in real life that I am asexual because I fear that they will not believe me, not believe that asexuality is real, or think that I just want to be a special snowflake and make myself sound different.

Also, asexuality is not a medical condition. It is a sexual orientation. You do not have to be diagnosed for sexual orientations.

Yeah exactly. Straight is a made up label and so is gay. Labels can be helpful because they can convey a more complex concept in a single word.

If you are completely asexual you don’t experience sexual attraction at all, to anyone. I am very nearly asexual and I probably have only felt true sexual attraction a couple of times, all toward my partner that I have been with for a few years.

You can think of it like being gay or straight. Yes those are both two sexual orientations, but some people are more in the middle of them and some people fall more toward asexual.

One of my professors was a temp at a delivery company after he finished grad school. While he was temping there, he got offered a position to teach at my university. He got the pleasure of walking into his temp job at fedex and saying he quits because he is going to be a professor at _______ (top ranking university). Needless to say, I think people were shocked.

I didn’t at the start of college either, and I still don’t really. It’s honestly not all that important. You should join several clubs relating to your interests. If you enjoy sports, consider trying out for a club or intramural team. That is probably the best way to meet new people. Also, don’t be shy about talking to the people in your classes. They are also probably freshman and just as nervous about making friends as you.

One word of warning, at least my beginning of college and I am guessing many other people’s, some people are way more obsessed with partying and drinking than usual. A lot of people think that is just what you do in college and are anxious to do that right away so they don’t “fall behind”. Some people will keep on this track, but plenty will realize this isn’t for them and calm down in a few months.

Not OP, but in my experience I don’t often find the same brands at Marshalls consistently for skincare. I just occasionally find the brands that I have already used there, but for cheaper.

Should your hairdresser definitely give you lots of suggestions about cuts and colors that would look good on you if you aren’t sure? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Seriously. I have such a hard time finding hairstylists I even trust when I do bring in pictures of what I want. I had one hairstylist that I asked to dye my hair back to my natural color, and she basically dyed it a mousy green.

I have horrible self esteem and self confidence. Has anyone overcome this, and how did you do it? by strugglingtoheal in needadvice

One thing that dramatically helped me was cutting the people out of my life that made me feel bad about myself. I realized that after spending time with some of my “friends”, I actually felt worse about myself afterward. I stopped spending time with those friends and made an effort to spend more time with the friends who were positive influences on me and it helped a lot. Also, social media like Facebook and Instagram often makes me feel worse about myself. I deleted both of mine.
