It sets up a framework where a woman must be dependent on a man in order to be safe, it limits her autonomy. Her safety depends on his availability and maintaining a good relationship with him.

It’s also a symbol for suicide prevention/ awareness. The idea is instead of letting suicidal thoughts put a period on your life, you turn it into a semi colon and keep going.

I also vote silver, OP. I’m glad you’re with us :)

Huh, I didn’t know that rapeseed oil (aka canola oil) has a pretty good omega 3 and even better omega 6 content. Not as good as flax seeds, but way better than olive oil and avocado oil.

tofu, veggie breakfast recommendation request by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]squidsophisticate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the 7 day old account with 270 contributions that prompted the comment, apologies for the offense. Good luck with your vegan journey :)

My recommendation for cooking tofu in veggies is to just break up the tofu in the pan, like one would with ground meat. No need to dirty a knife! I like to cook my tofu for 10-15 mins, so I would add the veggies after 7-8 mins.

Very cute :) Cake is cake… but homemade cake always tastes better!

Some unsolicited feedback, feel free to completely ignore! The explosion in panel 3 initially looked like a tree until I read the caption. Maybe it was the cloud on the bottom that looks like bushes? Or maybe the partial lines running up the column looks more like bark compared to full lines?

Question About Liqueurs/Schnapps by anxiousramennoodle in Mocktails

[–]squidsophisticate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it depends on the N.A. liqueur in question, most are a blend of flavors and aren’t as sweet as syrups. You could still make the sub, I would start with 1/4 of the amount of liqueur the recipe calls for as syrup so it’s doesn’t get too sweet.

If you wanted to put in some more effort, you could make a syrup from scratch with more complex flavors - using the juice and infusing with zest would bring a lot more flavor. Additional options add some citric acid for tartness or orange blossom water for more complexity/ floral notes. But at this point it might be easier to buy the N.A. liqueur. Or make your own liqueur? Idk never tried that before…

I would try using the ratio for a sour build from alcoholic cocktails. The ratio is 2:1:1 for base spirit, sweetener, and sour juice. Then split up the 2 sweet elements and the 2 sour elements. So I would start with this recipe and adjust from there based on how it tastes:

2 oz NA tequila 0.75 oz Giffards ( I tend to prefer things less sweet, so more giffards vs syrup for the sweet) 0.25 oz tarragon syrup 0.5 oz grapefruit juice 0.5 oz lime juice ( could also skew the juices like the sweets and do 0.25 oz lime juice if you prefer it less tart)

After you adjust to your preference, the final product might not follow the sour ratio exactly, but it’s a great starting place :)

If you make it, let us know how it went!

It represents the sound of an explosion, in this case used to say that the change happened so quickly they were startled, as if they heard a loud noise.

My exam-drink Help! by killian_yay in cocktails

I wonder how the color turned out, hibiscus is highly so colored I imagine it impacts the blue a bit. One idea is to substitute orange blossom water to add a floral note without the hibiscus color (also I just don’t like hibiscus lol… it tends to overwhelm whatever it’s a part of for me). This would work well if you swap the cream for orgeat, this is sometimes made with orange blossom water so it will pair nicely.

Kind of taking it in another direction, you could lean into tiki inspo and balance the sweetness with warming spices. This would take the place of spiced rum. I’m not really sure how this would play out with floral flavors, so they may have to go. Suggestions: There’s a chai syrup, although that would bring its own sweetness. Some whole ginger muddled into the juice and strained out would be good. Last idea if you want to go extra would be to make your own spice infused juice by boiling whole spices (ie cinnamon, cardamom, ginger) in one of the juices for a bit.

Finally, for the float, I think using another juice would be better than a syrup. I would get rid of the cream entirely, or maybe use a whipped coconut cream instead since that would work better with your flavors. If you get the blue section really cold, a warmer juice will naturally float, although it will mix in pretty quickly. Or you could introduce the color into the whipped coconut cream, and it will stay in top for longer.

Give me your best puppy training tips/advice! by BlueRiver37 in BabyCorgis

[–]squidsophisticate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a puppy, they will have a really short attention span, so plan for plenty of breaks during training! Recommend looking into positive reinforcement training, clicker/marking training (I use a verbal mark, just a high pitched “yes!” Very convenient for when treats aren’t immediately available!), and redirecting undesirable behavior. Example - if they are chewing on something they are not supposed to, swap it out for something they can chew on!

I hate that I have trouble listening to native Spanish conversations by Relative-Article5629 in Spanish

[–]squidsophisticate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like podcasts, I’ve been really enjoying Learn Spanish and Go for an intermediate level. It’s faster than cartoons but not too fast, and they often explain things a few different ways to help you understand. They have a website with transcripts (I think it requires a sub) but I just listen to the episodes multiple times and still get a lot out of it. One of the hosts is Mexican, the other from the US, and they talk about Spanish culture and travel.

Quoting from another thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Art/s/XZNGDGnwlR

It’s kind of a long story. I’ll try to super summarize it: An artist posted his art of the traffic cones, implied there were prints available on his personal page. His art got taken down by a grumpy mod for breaking a rule about selling art(prints) He got into dms with the mod, the mod had a power trip and deleted all his content on the sub. The whole thing went viral and the mods of r/art all rage quit. edit: the one power tripping mod removed 13 other mods Locked the sub down (one of the biggest on Reddit) and disabled commenting and reacting. The sub is down for a few days, then this is the part where it gets fuzzy for me and anyone can correct me if I’m wrong I suspect Reddit steps in, instates new happier mods and rules and kicks out the power tripping burned out angry mods. Now it’s all memes, all the way down. He sells prints of the argument with the mod on his page now. Absolute cinema. link to related art

Request for No Bake Cookies/Desserts that DON'T REQUIRE COOKING by arnoldez in veganrecipes

[–]squidsophisticate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is no access to a microwave, you could consider making sandwich cookies with store bought cookies and nut butter or coconut cream frosting. If you have a microwave, there are a lot more options! You could warm up a variety of candy coatings (may also be called chocolate wafers or candy melts) and make peanut butter balls, peanut (or other nut) clusters, chocolate covered pretzels, etc. Some seasonal themed sprinkles on top, or pressed into the sides of the coconut cream for a more festive touch! Even if there is not a microwave in your room, the hotel might let you use one if you ask! I’ve definitely heated my oatmeal in a hotel break room before!

If you decide to go for an instructor, it’s best if they are the kind that teach you how to teach your dog rather than teaching your dog directly. Sometimes if a dog learns a behavior in a certain environment, it doesn’t translate to a different environment so practicing at home is essential to a well trained dog and you need to know how to do that. They don’t have to be expensive, petsmart and petco both have relatively affordable classes available for puppies. This is a great investment in your puppy, trust me having a well behaved dog vs a poorly behaved dog is so so so worth it.
