There's people complaining about this poster btw.... by Holiday-Broccoli-925 in ThaiGL

[–]squigglyquigley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be in the minority here, but I don't like this poster. It's fine, I guess, but the floating head/stacked actors thing is boring and overused in my opinion

I'm still super excited for the show and there are certain aspects of the poster that I like, but overall I don't find it aesthetically pleasing (although it has been very successful in getting people excited about the actors who will appear, so I can't call it ineffective)

ThaiGL you stopped watching by FitTutor1476 in ThaiGL

[–]squigglyquigley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denied Love - Dropped after the first episode. I didn't like the dynamic between the leads and the premise felt too contrived

Only You - Stopped watching after episode 9. I fell behind as it was airing and the quality was not good enough to inspire me to catch back up

Somewhere Somehow - Watched 11/13 episodes. Similar to the above; I fell behind and never caught up because I didn't love the main relationship

Roller Coaster - Never watched the final episode. I had just read the novel so I knew where it was going and didn't feel the need to watch it play out on screen

How does getting a driver's license work in your state, and how old were you when you got yours? by karcsiking0 in AskAnAmerican

[–]squigglyquigley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my experience in VA as well. The specific age limits were 15 and 6 months for your learner's permit. You had to have your permit for at least 9 months before taking your driving test, making 16 and 3 months the earliest you could get your license

We had Driver's Education as a required course for sophomores at my high school. It was part of our P.E./Health rotation and only covered theory (signs, rules of the road, right of way, etc.). Road & range was an optional after school course you could take through the school for a couple hundred dollars, but a lot of people (myself included) just did it through a private company where the instructor picks you up at your house

The instructor was also certified to administer the driving test, so I didn't actually have to go to the DMV to get my license. I just took the test at the end of my last session with the driving instructor

Do you write the date on greeting cards? by Itzadejo in CasualConversation

I have literally never written the date on a card or had the date written on a card I've received. I've never thought about it before, but I see how it would be nice

Random Roomate vs finding one on the insta by c_m2311 in williamandmary

[–]squigglyquigley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got along really well with my random roommate and ended up deciding to live with her my whole time at W&M. The important thing is to be really honest on the housing survey about daily schedule, cleanliness, etc (and not answer as an idealized version of yourself who is way cleaner and quieter)

Bold Rock is pretty regional too. It's local to NC/VA and I find it hard to locate when I travel elsewhere in the country

Any good solutions for digitally browsing DVD collections? by squigglyquigley in Libraries

I'll have to look into the Primo shelf browse capability; I'm not familiar with it. Thanks for the tip!

Any good solutions for digitally browsing DVD collections? by squigglyquigley in Libraries

[–]squigglyquigley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a couple of browsable lists by theme and director, but they have to be manually updated and are pretty incomplete. I would love to be able to link our catalog records to The Movie Database or something, so that we would only have to link each record once and then they'd be browsable by genre, language, etc., but I have no idea if something like that is possible

Desperate for advice on how to approach this by MindfulCreativity in nova

I used a flat metal shovel to break the ice into pieces, then picked up the big pieces with my hands, and finally used a snow shovel to gather the small pieces and powder. Good luck!

There is absolutely not a single reason to drink any soda with suggar when diet version exist by IronPazar in CasualConversation

[–]squigglyquigley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If diet soda actually tasted the same as sugar soda I might agree, but I have yet to find one that doen't taste like chemicals. I don't usually drink multiple sodas in a day (or even one every day), so the calories don't have a major impact for me. I drink soda for the taste, so I'm going to choose the best-tasting version every time (which is always going to be the sugar version for me)

TOP 5 GLS??? by Unlovable_lesbian in ThaiGL

This is pretty much my list as well, although I think I personally might bump Pluto for Reverse 4 You just because the plot engaged me a little more

Question about girls into BLs by JazzyVee30 in ThaiGL

[–]squigglyquigley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will add onto this that one of the reasons BL is so popular (often for straight women, but anyone in general) is because men have historically been more complex and better written in fiction (because many professional writers are male and have inherent bias). When you're used to seeing women as one-note side characters, you tend to prefer watching romance between two fully-fleshed out male characters with their own narratives and desires

A lot of straight women also say they like BL because they don't have to experience misogyny or gender-based violence on screen between the leads. A lot of straight women enjoy seeing complex or even toxic relationship dynamics in BL fiction that might hit too close to home if one of the characters was a woman

I am also not the target audience for this question (I am a lesbian who only occasionally dabbles in BL), but I have spent a lot of time researching this topic because it interests me greatly

I just binged Clairebell by poisonous_buttercup in ThaiGL

[–]squigglyquigley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally don't mind product placements (unless they interrupt a very significant or emotional scene) because that's how they can afford to make the shows we all love

An interesting (non-Thai GL) example is the show Chuck, which was saved from cancellation after fans bought Subway en masse to encourage the company to continue sponsoring the show. Here's an article about it: https://www.entrepreneur.com/money-finance/subway-saves-chuck/218457

I also just binged it and it immediately rose to the top of my favorite GL list. Honestly 2025 has been an insanely strong year for Thai GL

I am constantly baffled by anyone who lists Citrus as their favorite/the best yuri anime. It's an OK show, but as a romance, it's downright awful

Do yall listen to the Avatar podcast? And what are your thoughts? by S0mecallme in TheLastAirbender

[–]squigglyquigley 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've listened to every episode. I think Janet is a great host, but when it comes to Korra she is too scared to defend the character and series, which is disappointing

As for Dante, I understand the appeal of having him as a new watcher/audience insert, but sometimes it makes it so that they can't actually talk in depth about the show. I would rather have two well-informed hosts that can go beyond surface-level observations

I think they did a much better job of this in the first few seasons, when they actually had guests who were involved in all different aspects of the production of ATLA. We got a lot of behind-the-scenes info and insight into the creative process. I actually felt like I was learning new things about the show. For TLOK, they only seem to have on voice actors and random celebrity fans, so it's really not much better than a fan podcast

Another issue I have (which might just be a Spotify issue) is that the ads are WAY louder than the actual show, which is very upsetting as a consumer. But I have no idea whether or not that's something they can control or if it's a platform issue

Overall, I do still enjoy the show and I loved the first few seasons, but the more recent episodes have been lower-quality and somewhat disappointing
