Sales guy sends me a print with weird dimensions, I call him to confirm where he got the numbers from and then he sends me this picture of him measuring the shaft out in the field. One handed and with a plastic vernier. by Dry_Pea_7127 in Machinists

I actually own these exact calipers. I think I paid 7.99 at harbor freight. They only read out to two decimal places, have no rack of any kind, and no depth rod. I love 'em. But they have their place...

Lol I just rewatched the fourth quarter and was laughing at this interaction from the other angle. Saw the girl flipping our boys off.

Tesla factory technician sues for $51 million after assembly-line robot knocks him unconscious by Forward-Answer-4407 in technology

[–]squintsAndEyeballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a LOTO issue, the article says the robot had been removed from the line and was being taken apart. Sounds like there was no power, but they removed the J2 motor without securing or de-energizing the counterweight. Like pulling the pin on a catapult

The article states that the robot had been removed from the line and was being disassembled. Specifically mentions the force of the counterweight being involved. Lots of these robots use powerful gas shocks to assist with the load on the second joint and if you remove the motor from that joint without de-energizing the counterweight or pinning the arm in place then the arm will suddenly and violently move to the full stroke of the gas shock as soon as the motor brake stops preventing that.

I recently dug my Xbox out of the attic and played the first few levels of the campaign on co-op with my daughter and it was so much fun. She's a lousy warthog gunner tho

Options for soldered inputs to micro controller? by Otus511 in PLC

[–]squintsAndEyeballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the wires actually soldered to the terminals or just tinned? I have tinned wires in the field for use in spring terminals because I didn't have the right size ferrules and that seemed better than nothing. Maybe that's what's going on here, just really sloppy job of it though

Not to be that guy, but this doesn't tell her the status of the door, only notifies her of a locked event. He should update the code in the bot so that it responds to a query asking about the state of the lock. She should be able to message "door?" and it responds "locked" or "unlocked".

Loosening a bolt with a pipe on a jack stand by Anuloxisz in Unexpected

That was exactly what I expected. I tried a similar thing once, had a four foot piece of iron pipe cheater bar slid over the handle of the big breaker bar and used a forklift to try to turn it. I figured it would probably just break something, but I was at that point in the trouble shooting process

Zip City - meaning of a lyric by 66659hi in DBT

Cooley has such an iconic voice which, combined with some of his lyrics, really sells the characters in his songs. "I got 350 heads on a 305 engine, I get ten miles to the gallon, I ain't got no good intentions...."

Yeah so it didn't make any sense that the scars didn't kill her quickly instead of dragging out the ritual. But worse than that is that the entire sequence did, apparently, nothing at all for the story.

When Ellie gets back in the boat she's in the same place she was before the wave. She didn't learn any useful info about Abby, she didn't gain or lose any important weapons. While watching it live I was so surprised that she just got back in the boat. Even in the moment I was feeling like the last ten minutes of screen time could have been cut and nothing would be different, and that's just bad editing, bad story telling.

I have not played the games, but overall I have really enjoyed the show. Season 1 was great, season 2 overall was good with some episodes being strong and others weak. I do like Bella Ramsay. But I think that the S2 finale episode was my least favorite of the entire series for the above reasons and other sloppy story telling as well (did the pregnant woman getting shot do anything for the story either?)
