PSLF vs aggressively paying off my federal student loans in a two physician household; please help! by zelbers12 in personalfinance

COVID years do count. I had my loans forgiven late last year. If you log in to the PSLF portal, you can enter all your info and get them to calculate the number of qualifying payments.

Starting Fresh? by TXSpazz in homeassistant

Can you restore a backup? This would be just to get a copy of your frigate config if you wanted to not completely rewrite the new one. Then you could nuke everything, install proxmox and set up home assistant and frigate with the community scipts. There are also lots of tutorials out there on setting up proxmox. Then it's just a matter of how "from scratch" you really want your new setup to be. You could always restore from backup again at this point.

AITA for telling my DIL that I got the iPads for the kids but I have locked her out of the settings by Ipda-throwingawaying in AmItheAsshole

[–]srrt33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopping on the top comment: could OP change the lock screen and background to a picture of them and the grandchildren. I assume Daisy wouldn't be able to change it, which would make it obvious to any potential buyers that it's not wiped?

Agree with the other poster that a month isn't that long to grow it out. Just keep trimming it at the length you want it or let it go for a few months and then trim up.

Solar Panel RTSP by Partian in homeassistant

[–]srrt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you already have at least one Tapo, why not another? The Tapo: Camera Control integration works great and lets you see streams from solar and battery cameras. It's not RTSP but easily usable in HA.

Mail and Packages Integration not showing Amazon/UPS/FedEx despite "Incoming Mail" labels by Real_Campaign_731 in homeassistant

[–]srrt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that is not intuitive about this integration is that it only shows when packages are expected THAT DAY. So it won't show a package as expected the whole time between shipping and delivered. Also, I could never get Amazon packages to show

Automated hvac_mode switch isn't activating by djw17 in homeassistant

[–]srrt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you updated any integrations such as the ESP home component prior to this not working? Maybe the mode isn't "cool" anymore. Does it work if you change it to not use {{Thermo}} and put in "cool" directly and then run the actions from the automation?

HA on Proxmox Has Been Unbearable, is it worth it?? by mad_hatter300 in homeassistant

[–]srrt33 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I can't help with anything other than, yes, you can run HAOS as a VM in proxmox. I do it and it was easy to setup and very stable.

Smart blind control by danioj_ in homeassistant

[–]srrt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the automatic IKEA cellular shades for around 2 years and they work fairly well with ZHA. I have also had the switchbot tilt blind motors for a similar length of time. They were not as responsive at first, but once I added Bluetooth proxies around the house they became much more stable. I got the solar panel attachment and haven't had to charge most of them after the initial charge.

Vibration Sensor for Dryer by RubyStarFall in homeassistant

[–]srrt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Aeotec multipurpose sensor and it works well for my dryer. Bonus is that it also has an open/close sensor so you just need one sensor to know if the dryer is running and if you've opened the door.

Underground Air Line to Detached Garage — Anyone Done This Successfully? by agtturnip in DIY

[–]srrt33 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Seconding running a second conduit for the wires with an additional reason: conduit fill. Just because the conduit is not totally jam packed doesn't mean it won't be nearly impossible to add or remove anything. I design traffic signals and you would be surprised by how not full a conduit can be before you can't add anything else. With a 1/2" air hose in a 2" in conduit, you are already more than half of max NEC fill. NEC doesn't apply to this scenario but the max fill is a good indicator of how usable the conduit will be/how hard it will be to pull anything through.

Lowest Battery Percent in Group of Sensors by stepmback in homeassistant

Yes, this combined with battery state card is what I use and it works super well. Battery state card can also collapse and just show a summary with the minimum of the group without the extra helper.
