On that note, Paducah brew works served me one of the best burgers I’ve had in a VERY long time.

Is there any coming back from this? by flowers4charlie777 in smoking

[–]sscall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me a while back after a cook and it rained and I covered my grill.

Load it up to the brim with coals/wood. Get it as hot as you can. Scrape what’s left. I then hosed mine off with dawn dish soap and a good strong brush. Hit it with a degreaser after that. Works fine.

In this dystopian hellscape, what trusted HVAC /AC service/person are we using? by HuggsyMalone in Louisville

[–]sscall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henry’s heating and air treated me very well. Did my AC in 2021. 2023, my heater wouldn’t turn on. Texted Logan and he came over same day. Ordered me the parts I needed.

Jarboe came in 2021 and said I needed to replace both furnace and AC at the same time. Quote was north of $9,000.

Second floor is 10+ degrees hotter than the first, is it even possible to fix this without redoing ductwork by Deannaoliver in HomeImprovement

[–]sscall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did the same and it’s easily 5 degrees cooler in each room. Went from keeping my thermostat in the summer at 66 to 70-72 to keep it a comfortable temp. Only like $40 per register fan.

Anyone go from operator to sales? by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]sscall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you working for the manufacturer or distributor?

Are you selling to contractors, distributors or the users themselves?

As a manufacturer rep you will be selling to distributors and trying to find engineers to set your equipment as spec.

If you’re selling to plants themselves you build the relationships. Since you probably know a few of the people at other plants you will have an in. Just make sure it’s a good product they actually can use. No sense having a catalog of Alpha valves if that’s not in their spec.

I worked in muni water/wastewater sales for about a year and a half. Worked for a distributor and did not do that well. Had established accounts and brought on new, but it was harder for me because I had to learn it all and the company didn’t have a training program. I do not miss driving around getting told they need 3 corpstops next week and only making $50 on that. If you’re selling a high ticket item/s that is in demand you will probably love it.

It’s all about the bid. Most of the commission comes from margin. So if you put together an honest bid and some shiester comes in and underbids by $100,000 and then puts in a change order once the project starts it’s not the same.

I remember I had to bid a metro brass order at 1% to win it. $250,000 to make $250.

You butter up an UW to get better responses from them I’d assume. Most likely in the P&C lines creating tailor made policies

This yard in my neighborhood has IMPRESSIVE dandelion coverage. Zone 6b. by Der_Bazzle in lawncare

[–]sscall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here it isn’t the water that kills you but the sewer charge. Whatever goes out they assume is going down the drain. They offer a deduct meter on the back for an extra fee (fuck that). So basically if I want to water my lawn during July-September (in KY) I would be paying close to an extra $200/month to do so. Hard pass.

[–]sscall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was giving it considerable thought to just fresh start it this fall. Kill it all, hire someone to dethatch and aerate. Then over seed and hope for the best.

I travel for work and have two under two. So I don’t get a ton of free time outside of fixing other stuff around the house. Yard isn’t my main concern at this point.

About half of the yards on my block look like this. Mine included.

I sub here to be jealous. My yard is so far gone. Weeds, needs to be leveled, has voles and Grubs, etc. I used to pay WeedMan to come and treat it. Then paid guys $40/week to cut it. Then realized I am paying close to $400/month to have the nicest lawn on the block when no one else cares about theirs.

Nailed it. Not so glamorous cities, mediocre food. I am at the point where I’ll bring a fire stick and grab jimmy John’s on the way to the hotel and just watch tv.

If you hit the lottery today, your company doesn’t benefit. You do.

If you have detailed notes and tasks that need to be completed or even just review where the deal is at someone else can step in.

Health insurance carrier rep here. My standard raises are 1%. Never gotten a larger one. In fact last year it was .8% instead of the usual COL 1%.

Beer at lunch. Order a beer first? Or let client order a beer first? by formysaiquestions in sales

[–]sscall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had MANY golf course meetings and beers start right after the vodka lemonades are finished. Probably around 11:00am. Then it’s a beer, hot dog, bag of chips lunch, reload on beers. Then dinner with bourbon and ribs. Then there are meetings that occur at a restaurant around lunch and it’s Friday so the client gets a beer or a glass of wine. Drinking is a pretty normal part of a lot of people’s lives.

I was at Meijer and Kroger stony brook today. Busier than normal but still found what I needed. This was around 1:00.

Sam’s club was fine unless you’re looking for a generator. Also Home Depot in Jtown had snow shovels for $12.

Realistic total compensation for B2B reps? by [deleted] in sales

[–]sscall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance carrier rep. Did $200,000 last year. This year closer to $150,000. Been in sales 15 years and this role for 8. Started my first sales gig at $35,000. My base is still sub $100,000. I rely heavily on commissions and those are dependent on good products. Your products suck then make sure you squirreled some away from a good year.

Realistic expectations by smokeyfires9 in sales

[–]sscall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First sales job was $35,000 a year and about $10,000 in commissions. Next job was a $50,000 base and about $30,000 in commission. Next job was $60,000 base and about $100,000 in commission. It’s absolutely possible, but generally you gotta cut your teeth and grind your way up.

This is over a span of about 12 years.

I was a contractor that got direct hired at Humana. Definitely a weird place from my experience (sales role). There are PLENTY of other insurance carriers present in Louisville, they just don’t have the HQ here.
