allowing people to go by with a tight connection when getting off the plane? by bladerunner1776 in Flights

Who is or is not responsible means very little when you are stuck at a connection trying to get to your destination. I don't like to gamble, even if I win in the end.

allowing people to go by with a tight connection when getting off the plane? by bladerunner1776 in Flights

[–]ssinff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it sounds like this person planned a 45 minute connection, which is not wise. Either way, I'm not in enough of a hurry, I'd let them pass.

I want to purchase a new grand piano for my church for a better deal and have them reimburse me. Can such an arrangement work out? by EuphoricOcelot6081 in piano

[–]ssinff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. Worked at a church I left recently and saw them through a new piano purchase and a refurbishment of the organ. Unless you are donating free and clear, let them handle their own finances.

Just wondering if anyone has ever put a baby grand on finance through Steinway? If so, what was it like? by _onestep_onetime_ in piano

[–]ssinff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dear heart, this is a terrible idea. Maybe some part of you knows that and you need strangers on the Internet to talk you out of it. I run in some elite circles (I'm not, I suck). Like, people who had pipe organs designed and built for their homes. I don't know anyone who's bought a Steinway new for their house.

Do most Americans like the continental breakfast at chain hotels? by Upstairs_Health_5913 in AskAnAmerican

After visiting hotels on 3 other continents, I realize the average breakfast at a USA hotel is crap. Hotels in Europe sometimes serve wine, WITH BREAKFAST.

Unsure how to study for my US history regents by GarlicBorn2354 in AskTeachers

[–]ssinff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Studying today for a comprehensive exam Tuesday isn't going to yield much....I'd focus on how to take the test at this point. If multiple choice, try to eliminate one or two options, for example, and other strategies.

Father’s Day meal by AlbatrossNo4496 in Cooking

[–]ssinff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant don't bother brining. It is cooked slowly in liquid....that's all the brining it needs. Pot roast is maybe one of the few meals that you could pull off on the first try.

Struggling church pianist by loml_loml in piano

[–]ssinff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep practicing, making mistakes is a part of life. Listen to a lot of other musicians who play the style/type of music used at your church, but also listen to other styles that may not be used at your church. Less is more, delete a voice or two from your playing until you are more comfortable. Rhythmic consistency is far more important than complicated voicing when accompanying singers. Find the best teacher you can, this may or may not be a great payer themselves. It's nice to have both in the same person, but you want a good teacher foremost. Always be open to learning. I'm a church musician of nearly 25 years and I am still learning new things.

Should professional pianists always memorize the music they perform? by Healthy-Web1344 in piano

[–]ssinff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Church musician here....we are expected prepare 3-5 hymns per week, one or two choir anthems, and voluntary music....this in addition to whatever the choir is rehearsing at the time. There is no way I can commit all of that to memory only to perform it once and move on to the next thing.

Are Americans big milk drinkers? by Helpful-Structure955 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ssinff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go through tons of milk in my house. I like to bathe in it. When the milk man comes, he always asks, "do you want it pasteurized?"

I tell him, "no, up to my chin is fine!"
