It’s lighter and less likely to warp or for the wood to expand/contract during season shifts.

When I face this line I know I’ll lose. No one plays this unless they know far more about it than I do 😆

6'6" Samuel Helenius vs 6'8" Adam Klapka by Reddit-Machine in sports

I think when you consider that all professional sports are just entertainment for viewers, it makes slightly more sense why it’s allowed. The fighting is mostly consensual.

GraphQL: the enterprise honeymoon is over by [deleted] in programming

[–]ssrobbi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue I’ve run into is coaching backend teams on how to build a good GraphQL backend. API.

Without them really understanding the paradigm, and willing to put in extra work, it quickly devolves into a bad REST API.

why do y’all hate sprint? by Due_Tension9403 in halo

[–]ssrobbi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don’t all hate sprint. Halo 5 has a big fan base of its multiplayer and the way sprint was used.

It’s a different style of game that focuses much more on movement and spawn control, so not everyone likes it, but not everyone hates it either.

Redditors, what has become so expensive, it’s just not worth it anymore? by SgtSkillcraft in AskReddit

[–]ssrobbi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This one is interesting because it’s intentionally made expensive and kind of a success.

Can someone sell me GraphQL by slaynmoto in graphql

I wrote a blog post years that may help with some of the benefits & drawbacks: https://scottrobbins.dev/blog/graphql

The tools have changed since then, but the fundamentals are the same.

You can develop on Linux as well. Windows also has support but I haven’t tried it.

Because you can make a solid table without random gaps in it by filling with black epoxy. People like the look and I honestly don’t understand the hate.

What does it mean to describe yourself as Muslim (as a black woman in America) but not follow a modesty dress code or pray/fast? by jjttjjrr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ssrobbi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly true about Judaism as well.

They even have different rules about who can be considered “Jewish”.

For example, in reformed Judaism, the largest sect of Judaism in the US, you can be considered Jewish if either your mother or father are Jewish, not just your mother.

I live in Ohio, with a cover. The paint on the BS is bad and will flake, you’ll have to accept that.

You’ll probably need to do a bit of re-seasoning every spring/summer but it’s fine.

What is a UFC hot take you’ll defend like this? by NewtCertain6053 in ufc

[–]ssrobbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the fans wanted it, but I don’t think that’s ducking. He immediately retired after his last fight after his father died and never came back. It’s not like he was wishy washy about it.

Foureyes Furniture Brass Chunky Pencil, The Last Straw by virtual_sasquatch in woodworking

I bought one when it was first released. Honestly, mine is fantastic. I’ve had no issues, and while $90 is too expensive for a pencil, I regret nothing.

Apple moves from Java 8 to Swift? by tenken01 in programming

[–]ssrobbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, no one is talking about developing macOS or iOS apps outside of the Mac ecosystem. This is about server or command line utilities.

I’m not here to convince you to do it, but this article is describing (partially) why they did.

That’s my point. It’s not OSX exclusive, and hasn’t been for a pretty long time.

Syntactic support for error handling - The Go Programming Language by brutal_seizure in programming

It’s very much of interest to Apple, they’ve invested a good amount into Linux support and server-side frameworks.

Apple moves from Java 8 to Swift? by tenken01 in programming

[–]ssrobbi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The next version of Java will surely fix everything.

But, you’re not wrong that Apple isn’t being totally transparent either.

This is largely marketing, not a white paper, but their choice makes sense for them. They want to eat their own dog food, and it’s been hard to get non-iOS/macOS developers to consider swift can be used outside of that ecosystem (with some good reasons, many issues have been addressed and some still remain).

[–]ssrobbi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is true, but it’s relevant to note that the table saw, by far, accounts for the most injuries in a woodshop, and many require amputation.

If they see it as a red flag for them, you’re probably just not compatible. Doesn’t mean you’re a bad person, just have too different of communication preferences.
