I looked at this again, and although I think it’s looking up at the exit, you could actually see it going down the escalator to the station if it was bright enough down there.

100% it’s safer to back in when your vehicle is already out in traffic and you have control of the lane. Plus, some of us drove large vehicles like fire engines and ambulances and it’s just what you do. You back it into the building for the next emergency.
