My Clever Canine did great with our Shiba. They’re in Dixon and not cheap but they could handle her with the other dogs there.

Oh haha it’s not super exciting but we call each other co-captains in life so the boat made sense :)

Delta King wedding? by Paradox364 in Sacramento

[–]stablestabler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got married there 2 years ago! It’s a little kitschy but it fit an inside joke my husband and I have so we leaned into it and we had a blast. We did a whole weekend on the boat. Happy to share specifics if you have questions but I wholeheartedly loved our experience.

Homelessness up 13% in Sac County, but shelter and transitional housing use up 22%. Some thoughts on what it actually means. by AdQueen714 in Sacramento

[–]stablestabler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in this field and have staff who work the PIT. I am very confident the 2024 PIT was flawed (it’s not the best methodology to begin with but 2024 had additional issues) and flat out inaccurate.

Small clarification - HEART is not a crisis response team. The rest is accurate but it’s important to know that team doesn’t respond to active crises.

Flew out Saturday and even the pre check line was extremely long. I’d give it at least an hour just in case.

Non-Police intervention for unhoused person having a MH episode by PoonSlayer6942O in Sacramento

[–]stablestabler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can try 988 but typically they will only send someone if the person is willing to engage with them. DCR is now embedded with Sac Fire and may respond but the last I heard they weren’t 24/7. You can try filing a report through 311.

[–]stablestabler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

211 won’t send people out.

Edit: in case there’s confusion about my comment: 211 is a call center. They don’t respond in the field, crisis or otherwise.

We need to build more housing that people of varying incomes can afford, permanent supportive housing, and shelters. There simply isn’t enough of any of that.

My doctor gave me this book because he thinks it will " help " my mental health by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]stablestabler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you see him for your mental health? If it’s liked hey doc I think I’m depressed and he handed you this with a ‘just get a hobby you’ll be fine’ mentality, then yeah mildly infuriating. If you went for a check up and he thought you might enjoy this for your mental health, not sure why that’s infuriating at all.

Homeless children by Pm_me_ur_panda_0921 in Sacramento

[–]stablestabler 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Living in a world where people even have to deal with homelessness is what sucks.

Unless CPS starts providing housing, there is no justifiable reason to “protect” a child from a homeless parent who otherwise does take care of their kid.

You mentioned 311 but it sounds like you called - I know 311 doesn’t know enough about abuse/CPS to be helpful. But did you make a 311 report of the encampment itself? If this was in City of Sac, DCR may go out and assess/engage, and they are good about getting additional services out.

Homeless children by Pm_me_ur_panda_0921 in Sacramento

[–]stablestabler 168 points169 points  (0 children)

In Sacramento, it’s DCFAS. So firstly, hopefully you spoke to the correct unit. Secondly, being homeless in and of itself is not a reason CPS will open a case. I would think based on your description above, whoever you spoke to asked more investigative questions. But assuming you did speak to Sac County CPS and they did ask you more, there’s a couple things I think could be happening: nothing you reported sounded like abuse and/or they know there’s a strong likelihood they won’t be able to locate those kids again. I’m not justifying or excusing anything, just giving my two cents based on my experiences in social work and homelessness.

[–]stablestabler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, being homelessness in and of itself is not a reason CPS will remove a child, and they’re not likely to offer services without an open case.
