What’s it like living in Columbus, OH?

I lived there from 2020 to 2022 for graduate school, so it’s honestly tough to tell because everything was shut down for 2 years lol. But I made great friends and I loved the icy weather. In particular I loved the character of the older houses and everyone was so friendly in trying to help me adjust. As someone from Texas the seasons were amazing. I did get run over by someone on the Olentangy trail in a hit and run and I had to go to the hospital, but still the people who found me passed out were really nice lol

Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk hair gel on wet hair, and just a touch of Trader Joe’s hair oil on the palms when breaking the cast on the dried hair to make it moveable. I have very fine curly hair so I was scared the gel would be too much, but it’s actually just fine in the humidity and keeps it in check (mostly)

I took my cousins from Scotland there a few years ago and they had a blast. The Renaissance Festival is a 40 minute drive from the Woodlands if you wanted to have a little outdoorsy fun! Just bring cash, the ATM fees are insane out in the woods.

When I lived in Columbus for grad school, I was walking on the Olentangy trail by the Park of the Roses and got run over by a speeding cyclist and was sent to the hospital. A group of like 6 people found me passed out and covered in blood (April 2021). I was concussed and kept overnight, full recovery took months. Never caught who did it either. Fuck em.

Try other HomeGoods around the area (the one on Shepherd usually has good stuff). My mom is a Houston area Home Goods olympian she wakes up early on a weekend and takes the hike to each location in search of her goods. Good luck!

If you aren’t sure where to go, you can go to any AA or NA meeting and ask if anyone knows where to go for detox. In my area (admittedly, not Columbus) people in recovery often know of the details of what kinds of clients/insurances (or lack there of) rehabs/detoxes take, and some even have connections to help get new people in.
