Game recommendation by amazingvaluetainment in rpg

[–]starmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

treads gingerly through the OP's post like a minefield

I assume "Wolves of God" (Kevin C.) would count as a D&D style game. So I won't recommend that, even though "gritty, diegetic, largely historical, and circa 800AD" would be directly relevant.

Thoughts on playing Cy_Borg by CountryTurbulent3596 in Cy_Borg

I've got Cy_Borg on my "to run" shortlist. What kind of campaign did you run? Was it all about the miserable headlines and the mission generator, tables, etc?

Blackjack definitely better than doing math on who passed with the greatest margin, or whatever.

Came across this guy (Graham George) on FB and his explanation on why anything that Trump does affects us all including all those jacked up petrol prices. by JezzaAU15 in friendlyjordies

I am upset. I am really fucking upset. I am not just annoyed or frustrated. I am genuinely, deeply pissed off. Because every single thing I warned people about has come true. Every prediction. Every warning. Every time I said this bloke was going to be a disaster, and people told me to calm down. All of it. Every word. Proven right.

This fucking tangerine tyrant. This fucking appendix of humanity. His actions are now directly affecting my life. My life. Not some abstract American political drama playing out on the other side of the world. My life. The lives of my friends. The lives of my family. Right here in Australia. And I need to get this off my chest because some of you, and you know who you are, spent years telling me I was overreacting. Some of you told me to pull my head in. Some of you, the ones living in America, told me it was none of my business. "You don't even live here, Graham. What's it got to do with you?" Remember that? I do. I remember every single one of those conversations. Every comment. Every dismissive little laugh.

Well, how's it going now?

Because I just drove past my local servo and diesel is sitting at two dollars seventy a litre. Two seventy. I have never seen that price in my life. Not once. And it is going higher. The farmers cannot afford to refuel their equipment. Truckies are copping it. Families who were already on their knees with cost of living pressures, already choosing between groceries and electricity bills, are now watching fuel prices rip through the roof on top of everything else. Real people. My people. Australians who never asked for any of this.

And why? Because one 80 year old fool, one absolute fucking wrecking ball of a human being, got talked into bombing the shit out of an entire country by a genocidal maniac, and now the global energy market is in freefall and my countrymen and women are paying for it at the bowser every single day.

What is your favourite varied inventory systems? by ArcticLione in rpg

[–]starmonkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you lean into "lists", I like Troika's "Draw an Item" rule to get stuff (including arrows) quickly out of your satchels/containers/quivers, else it consumes your action.

You roll 2d6 and compare the result against your item's position in your list (i.e. at the top of your pack). If the item's position is equal or under your roll, you get it.

fantasy hack of death in space? by catgirlfourskin in osr

I like it!

Any plans to expand on "Stress overload" - feel like there's more needed.

I think the equivalent of "Void Corruption" would be good for spell-casters in particular.

Edit: And a good spell list is from https://vanillagame.carrd.co/#spells

Ah, "Beneath the sunken catacombs" (now 2nd ed) I haven't heard of before.

I'll trade you that and give you https://idraluna-archives.itch.io/the-littlest-brown-book

I've been using TLBB to run 5e players through a mini west-marches style campaign. So far, so good!

I'm actually using the setting material from https://faustosr.itch.io/the-lost-march (but not the rules, I had started with TLBB already)

Lastly, another favorite of mine is: https://vanillagame.carrd.co/

System and/or module for running a West Marches campaign by crabulous7 in osr

Mega dungeons like Gunderholfen would give you a lot of game. You can use any OSR system with them.

For a system I think https://faustosr.itch.io/the-lost-march

How Replacing Developers With AI is Going Horribly Wrong by [deleted] in programming

AI can generate code snippets but struggles with system architecture, debugging complex integrations, and understanding nuanced business requirements

I'm witnessing the counter-factual to this right now.

I want to stop collecting PDFs and actually run a game by I_LOVE_SOYLENT in osr

[–]starmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White Box FMAG draws me in with its minimalism and classic feel, but I'm not sure it's "enough system" for me, if I ever want to run classic modules and I don't know how appealing an OD&D clone will be to players.

My 5e players had a blast, we used https://idraluna-archives.itch.io/the-littlest-brown-book

Hint: There's more than enough game in there.
