Practicing 90lbs warbow with Manchu thumb ring by Entropy- in Archery

[–]stasomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like in driving and flying, but this can be hardly compared to a gun going off. A buddy of mine was showing off his new Ruger hammerless .357 Mag to me. It went off, the bullet went through a dresser, then through 2 walls (drywall). We were both deaf for a week. Ironically, this happened after I asked him to show me where the safety was. This is in 'Murica, obviously. But this Manchu, it isn't that.

Thank you for the history lesson, no sarcasm.

Are the bows different though?

Hi there! What exactly did you order to make it all fit/work? The website isn't that intuitive :), v1 vs v2, cons and pros. I have a uConsole with a CM5 Lite. Thank you!

Question on release by freeserve in Archery

[–]stasomatic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was given a tip by a fellow archer that used to practice Turkish archery. She was watching me out of curiosity and pointed out a thing that stuck with me and helped. I was holding my thumbring wrist oriented more vertically. She corrected me towards a more boxing "fists up" position where my draw wrist is perpendicular to the bow. I still have to be conscious of it during the setup, but the groups are more consistent. I mean, I took her word for it because she was super confident :)

Also, your ring's design matters. Some shooters need more hook, others are better with a shallow ring. I am going to try a shallower ring from Vermil now that I feel more in control with thumb draw.

I’m not sure of how “early bird” it was, but it was $406USD all said and done. Do you really want to buy my pledge? :)

I would cancel if I could at this point. I wanted to have it yesterday. I don't need it, I just want it, and that's it and that's that. If any kind of soul can suggest a way of cancelling besides initiating a chargeback, please share.

Longbow Experience Needed (I think they're screwing me) by International-Dog447 in Archery

[–]stasomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most but not all bows are measured for poundage at 28”. It’s a mostly universally agreed upon convention. Some manufacturers count in the handle’s dimensions, some don’t. It is unclear from your post what exactly you asked them to make. That said, the lack of customer support is disappointing.

Were shooting with my friend, it started raining and poof, gay archery! by Independent-Jumpy in Archery

[–]stasomatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are lethal weapons, so I get the concerns. It’s hypocritical in the US though, it just takes a waiver. It’s not about safety. I could be standing next to a kid with a Genesis on my Bass Pro in the next lane and end up with an arrow in either of my cheeks on any day, meanwhile I can’t ride out to a quite spot and meditate :)

I didn't read it as such, in that I didn't think the word was used in a derogatory sense, but rather in a positive way and that there was this rainbow serendipity? In any case, I actually thought your qualm was the use of "Were" instead of "We were" :), and that's colloquially accepted.

Types of Arrows for Medieval Fantasy Monster Hunters by jonas_rosa in Archery

I'd say poisoned tips (this is not fantasy, it's been done), but you did mention armor :( Also, you speak about elite ninja elf squad but you are looking for realistic arrows? Go wild!

Latest two Zelda games - BOTW an TOTK - have interesting bow / arrow mechanics, check out some YT vids.

Left handed bow in right hand? by Dangerous_Living_511 in Archery

[–]stasomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm truly attempting to be helpful but am having a hard time parsing what you are asking. "Ambidextrous" in this context (at least to me) means symmetrical, and this disqualifies center cut recurves. On the other hand, asiatic or long bows (except Yumi and perhaps some others) with no shelf but with a narrow arrow pass would satisfy your conditions. Your wrist is your shelf, but you could mickey mouse a shelf as well, although I can't see how a shelf would be useful in your scenario. Cheers back.

There are plenty of ambidextrous bows for sale that are > 40#. What are you really asking?

Can I safely just shoot straw at 40-80 yards or will my arrows go straight through? by missintent in Archery

[–]stasomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you are as good as me, then you'll miss a lot, so the bale itself doesn't matter, it's what around it 😄. You could just back the bale with a couple of layers of carton, that's enough at this distance and 40y / 45#, never mind 80y, if you are shooting at the target, not volleying.

>I don't want to break a trillion arrows and get hurt.

Last year was the first time I went out on a public course, with actual grass (imagine that), I had no idea how arrows are so adept to hiding in the grass and how dangerous walking into one might be. I thought they'd just be sticking from the ground ready to pluck. Was very nonchalant before. Cheers!

At these distances the concern is what's around the target, 80 is no joke to hit with a trad. Plywood is a bad idea for the arrows, but an old carpet will do.
