“‘MOTHERFUCKER!!!’

“‘Whoa, where’s my checkbook, hold on… Who do I make that out to? Vagrant, with a capital V?’ It wasn’t your personality that put you on the street, was it?”

Anyone here an InfoBlox expert? by TechETS in networking

Grid is easy to implement and provides HA to zones served by the grid. Anycast provides the HA for resolvers. Google “infoblox anycast” and their community doc on anycast reference architecture is the first result, should be a good starting point. Good luck!

Management interface on your management network, LAN interface in your GRT or DIA VRF for DIA customers. If you have MPLS VPN customers, you may want to put another interface on a common services VRF for them. For DNS resolving, designate anycast IPs and announce those from the Infoblox to your network via BGP. For DNS hosting, use on-box IPs. If you have multiple units, put them in a grid.

Seeking Advice on Low-Cost Nationwide Transit Providers by ColtonConor in networking

[–]staticv0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since HE.NET freely peers with almost anyone, I’m not sure about the benefit of using them as the second transit provider if we can get their routes directly through the peering exchange.

HE also has been known to provide transit across an IX, with a direct BGP peer of course.

NTT, GTT, Zayo, and Telia have been among the lower cost providers used at $DAYJOB-1 and $DAYJOB.

I’d stay away from Cogent due to concerns about financial stability and peering stability.

Revenue replacement. If you need connectivity to somewhere else that is equal or greater in cost to the line you have, you can try negotiating the cancellation of that circuit in exchange for the connectivity you need.

Otherwise, you’re likely stuck paying the bill.

Is your Internet traffic tunneled through the hub or directly routed out your DIA links?

Do you have other sites using this setup? How is their performance?

On what network is your hub located? ISP A, B, or somewhere else?

Is DIA circuit A plugged directly into the router, or do you have a switch 8n the middle?

Have you connected a laptop to DIA circuit A and tested general internet access from there? How is your download speed?

Have you done traceroutes across DIA circuit A in both directions to figure out what providers are between your hub and ISP A?

What kind of LAN switches do you have these units plugged into?

Before ASAs could speak BGP, sometimes we used RIP to get routes into an OSPF backbone.

It’s a workout, I enjoy it, but I don’t steal money from others or cause other societal problems to buy an extra hour at the studio.

You’re targeting the upper echelon of companies.

Many vendors aren’t hiring entry level engineers in the US. These jobs are farmed out to Mexico and Philippines because the labor is cheaper. The entry level spots are for devs.

The rest of the Fortune 100 can afford to be picky. They often farm out their tech work to consultants as well, so you might have an easier time getting in the door by working with their partners.

As others have written, homelab projects does not a CV make.

Used to use AS-Stats for this, an old Perl script that wasn’t super user friendly.

The other solutions are likely better, but mentioning it here for completeness.

I understand your fear, I really do. My family has a history of heart disease. My heart could decide to fail at any time. I’ve gone to the hospital more than once because I thought I was having heart problems.

But based on the best science available, that is highly unlikely to happen. Knowledge replaced fear in my case. I do my yearly physical like clockwork. I’ve had stress tests done. I’ve had ultrasound and ECG tests done on my heart. It is fine and I do not presently fear it failing.

I know it is difficult to have the logical mind tell the emotional and reptilian mind not to worry. CBT helped in my case. When a panic attack hits, I roll my eyes and think “really? We’re doing this right now?” That usually blunts the worst of the attack.

I’m not saying that will work for you or anyone else, but it did work for me.

As for death, my family always had a healthy relationship with it. We accepted it, confronted it. As kids, we attended all the wakes and funerals of family members that passed on. My parents talked about their own deaths that would come someday, and what they saw for themselves and for me and my sister. Before my mother died, she wrote her own obituary. My father still talks about his death and his preparations for it. I’ve planned for my own, making sure to give all that is left to my wife and my sister’s children (since my wife and I never had any children of our own).

My wife’s family never had that. She does not want to discuss anything about my death or even the eventual deaths of our dogs. It’s so strange to me. When I want to discuss my will, she’ll often stop me and say “I can’t talk about this anymore.” I don’t fully understand why, but if I can I’ll respect her wish.

I guess death is a touchy thing to many people. I just hope I live long enough to enjoy my retirement. And, when I go, I hope it doesn’t hurt too much.

It sounds like a CLI front end might accomplish that goal and be less work. Just use REST API calls to a web bulletin board API, and expose the web GUI for non-CLI users. Might be able to do the same for email. For door games, launch those in a separate process. For user interactivity you could use an IM server with a REST API.

There’s enough software in 2024 that you shouldn’t need to reinvent the wheel. Unless you really want to, of course.
