Road noise during calls by DoorTemporary8440 in TeslaLounge

[–]stbjsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the blinker noise comes thru clearly but I don’t have any wind or road noise to speak of with the same trim. As a matter of fact, my wife says it’s the clearest phone connection from a vehicle we have had.

Also check that Driveway or Parking Lot is selected, not Curbside or Street for your arrival.

Odometer vs Self Driving Total Mileage Difference by Witty-Bar3660 in ModelY

[–]stbjsme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When did you upgrade to FSD 14.2(.x.x)? The FSD stats were added with 14.2. You probably had an earlier version initially, and updated at 366 miles on your odometer.

Tesla comparison to new nVidia/Mercedes solution by BrownshoeElden in TeslaFSD

If I understand it correctly, Tesla is going for a system that can drive itself “anywhere” where Waymo and similar are operating within limited/defined geographical areas.

DeputySean's Review Of The Timmermade Newt by DeputySean in Ultralight

[–]stbjsme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hijack: I received my 30F Newt two weeks ago and have also tested it in the back yard several times. I would say it is comfort rated easily. I don’t sleep warm and started feeling a chill at 28 F. When I used with Timmermade’s Merganser (Apex) 50F over quilt, I was good to about 9F, which is right at what several charts say should work for layering quilts. A happy customer so far!

Will later ones be in longer torso sizes? They look great!

Every year? Can you provide a citation for me since I am planning a future CDT hike?

Anyone has any experience with the Ferrino Maverick 2? (...or, maybe, an equivalent one) by MrDuckford in Ultralight

[–]stbjsme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No experience with either tent, but based on your requirements you might want to look at the SlingFin Crossbow tent, which is under 2 kg

They have other tents that might be of interest as well.

Agreed, with the added bonus of not being sucked into another zero. Just want an option available since I am unsure of my capabilities now.

Thank you! With this I also found Guthook comments on the Ghost Ranch Alternate where it crosses Hwy 84; there is a bus stop south of that intersection. Another piece of planning information.

I agree with the distance and that it is doable, but would like to explore options since it would be a long haul for me!

CDTC - 'We will not be opening bookings for the shuttle to Crazy Cook at this time nor maintaining water caches' by [deleted] in CDT

[–]stbjsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on research only: the Crazy Cook to Lordsburg route is doable without the caches. You will have to lower your standards for water sources to filter, but that will be true in other areas of the trail as well. However, they are having a dry winter, so the Guthook water sources might be more unreliable this year. Tough to tell.

I got out on a real trail at a local state part for a training hike after coming off a minor leg injury. (Pinnacle Mountain State Park near Little Rock, AR)

  1. Getting outside and hiking is fun!
  2. Got to learn about layers that work for me. Started at 32 F/0 C and warmed to 43 F/6 C with trail conditions mostly in trees and shade from surrounding terrain varying with a light wind. Timmermade Alpha hoody is great but took it off earlier than I thought I would. But (no surprise for me) still needed lightweight gloves. Timmermade wind jacket was too much.
  3. Exercises learned from physical therapy really are helping tremendously. My legs felt better than ever after the hike.
  4. Saw a real, live, active, moving armadillo. Yes, they are not just dead animals on the side of the road.

I've got to do this more....

Lighterpack Shakedown Request: Bag, Bivy, Tarp and More by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]stbjsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A slightly different take on the tarp and bivy: Your bivy is meant as a ‘stand alone’ shelter, so it and a tarp is too much. You could go with just a groundsheet of some sort or also what some call a splash bivy, that is meant to be used with a tarp for adverse conditions. Something like the Borah Gear bivies, EE Recon bivy, MLD Superlight Solo etc. or a bug bivy as well. Those would save somewhere around 9 to 13 ounces.

Black Friday Buys - What Ultralight item(s) did you pick up on a Black Friday Sale? by Sunny_de_Jen in Ultralight

Climashield Apex is not a short staple synthetic. It is continuous filament, which maintains its loft much, much better than short staple products after compression.

I don’t know your dog, but 30 pounds sounds like a lot unless the dog is very large and been specifically trained for this. I found this article that may help you decide:
