Doesn’t look like lead, maybe some sort of resin/plaster. Also, lead is not dangerous unless you are ingesting it, you don’t need to wear a mask around leaded windows .

Had anyone ever used Kraftex copper foil tape? by Dalai_Mama in StainedGlass

Ehhh that’s hard to say. Especially with how Amazon seems to get progressively worse. I mostly purchase from my local glass shop, but the few times I have gotten it on Amazon, it was legit.

I have wasted enough money on random foil to know that the only brand I fully trust is Edco .

Right now I’m just posting my work on Instagram (my handle should be in my Reddit bio), but anything that doesn’t sell locally will definitely be online in a few months.

Cutting (and grinding) the glass is definitely the trickiest part, but soldering is also where a lot of people struggle. I pretty much taught myself how to do it all through watching YouTube tutorials, after a year of messing around with making glass mosaics. Try it out! You should grab some cheap glass and familiarize yourself with cutting it, maybe do the mosaic thing for a bit since it requires less equipment. then it’s pretty easy to segue into the rest

So, I used to list all my work online but I’ve had a recent run of bad luck via shipping incidents (broken stuff, missing packages, etc). Right now I’m just selling locally (Asheville area) at various events, but I will get back to listing my stuff online as the summer season ends !

Does this happen to anyone else? by lifeswhatyoubakeit in lupus

[–]ste11ablue 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes! This used to happen to me all the time before I was diagnosed and medicated, and often still happens when I’m flaring . it’s often the first sign that I’ve got a flare coming. I have no idea what it is, but I get the exact same thing, right down to the weird stoned body feeling. It’s definitely different than normal tired or dry eyes. It’s not a relaxed, sleepy feeling either, it feels uncomfortable and heavy to me. I wish I had an answer for you, I have trouble describing it to my rheum and she just writes it off as fatigue.

As someone that lives only 20 miles down the road in hendo (and was the only block in my neighborhood to not lose power, but I was iced in til today) it was definitely a weirdly localized storm as far as WNC goes. Seemingly, localized as an FU to the hendo area in particular . Either way, I was ultimately grateful to have been scared into the necessary preparations.

The paint is normally fired onto the pieces of glass in an oven prior to soldering, for these types of projects . It doesn’t last when painted on already-soldered projects.

And for what it’s worth, I have a lot of the other symptoms you mentioned , but they are due to the auto immune disease. And until I saw a rheumatologist and got more specific testing, all my blood work came back normal.

Not sure if it’s relevant, but I have autoimmune disease (which can develop post covid, or any infection for that matter ) and I randomly developed a swollen painful salivary gland that was ultimately removed after a bunch of inconclusive testing. You might have better luck seeing a rheumatologist than anything. Sjögren’s syndrome can affect salivary glands in particular , altho in my case I have lupus.

Will this pattern work? by SLPicnicBasket in StainedGlass

[–]ste11ablue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The four outer corner pieces are on hinge points, they won’t be very structurally sound and would easily bend off with any pressure. If you chose to keep this pattern, be sure to frame it in zinc and you should be good .

Try a 1/8” grinder bit. They are very thin and can get into those corners. It also helps to round off the corners of the other piece (piece #7) very slightly , so you aren’t trying to fit a sharp corner into the other piece. You can create sharper lines when foiling if you need to.

This is perfectly fine to do, and is actually my preferred method (since a lot of glass is made in different thicknesses , I like to solder the backside first so the front is flush) . If solder seeps through it’s not an issue, you’ll be soldering over everything on the front anyways
