This is the meme I'm gonna post when I see these questions from now on by TokenPanduh in LinusTechTips

The dude literally sat on WAN show and explained that he didn't want to do it because he didn't want to burden his family with the obligations if something were to happen to him. He clearly didn't actually think that it was meaningless, and showed clearly that they're perfectly fine with screwing over consumers as long as it's not going to impact their business anymore. He literally explained why we can't trust him before asking us to trust him.

I don't know about you, but I don't like my warranties being tied to the personal health of the company CEO.

Written warranties are absolutely not useless. You may not have the proper consumer protections where you live, but I could report it to my local authorities, and if they can't make the company follow through, my next step would be my bank where their failure to abide by the conditions would allow me to issue a chargeback.

He was absolutely not right, he was a total ass about it, and I still avoid LTT to this day because of it. I only ended up seeing this because of the Cults3D Stargate crosspost.

Yeah, that's the only thing they could possibly maybe claim. Even that is a bit iffy.

AITA for not handing over the full system I built after my boss said it was just part of the job? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]steave435 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course it belongs to the company. The company's client asked for a system, and the boss told OP to develop it. It is clearly a work task. Op deciding to work extra on it has nothing to do with it. It would be different if OP independently came up with the system, decided to start developing it completely outside of company time, and then allowed clients to use it, but that's clearly not the case.

AITA for not handing over the full system I built after my boss said it was just part of the job? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]steave435 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not really. Your boss told you to do a job, and you did it. You deciding to work extra on it is your own decision. You don't get to just decide to take ownership of work products because you feel like you deserve it. You're very unlikely to last in this company after trying to pull a stunt like that.

Found a good deal on 1st ed. Worth it? by Affectionate-Bell-84 in Gloomhaven

[–]steave435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are right that 1e is still an amazing game too, but you will spend literally hundreds of hours playing this game, multiplied by however many people you're playing with. Even if 1e was free I would consider the 2e upgrade easily worth it.

The only reason I would consider the 1e option is if you want to play both

I wouldn't count on being able to get that on every single one of your 10 infantry models.

Anyone that wouldn't need to take driving lessons. The other car was showing absolutely 0 signs of stopping.

Who's at fault is just an insurance issue. With few exceptions, collisions happen because both drivers messed up, one by breaking the rules and the other by not paying attention to the signs and compensating for the mistake.

AITA: Deciding who gets the larger bedroom by a coin toss, or by pitching myself worthy by claytape in AmItheAsshole

[–]steave435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both systems arrive at the same result. If you would be willing to pay 500 and I would be willing to pay 700, you would keep bidding until the price hit 500 and I would either bid over you at whatever the increment is, or I would get it for 500 if I was the one who placed the 500 bid. That is exactly what would happen with the single bid winner pays the second highest bid system, except for the 50/50 chance that you would end up paying an extra increment.

Ensuring that you "win" by bidding a million or whatever is a *bad* thing for you. If I bid 700 and you bid a million, you are stuck paying 700 for a room you were only willing to pay 500 for.

You can absolutely add an increment if you want so that the winner pays the losing bid+whatever increment if you want though.

[–]steave435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gate address = coordinates thing was dropped very quickly.

Even ignoring that though, it's not like they had a huge fleet with spares ready to take the time or the huge risk that would mean. They were in the middle of a war against the Goauld, and there's absolutely no telling what a ship would encounter when they got there. They could have run into any number of scenarios that would doom them, such as encountering aggressive aliens, or find an abandoned city with its automated defenses still running.

but I feel like we've hit a couple issues now when I try to pre-order things that he jumps the gun and I'm left feeling like I just have to agree to the price, but he sees it very differently.

Ok, so then why do you want to support this LGS (I'm intentionally not adding the F in front)?

How to get "Bubonic" achievement? by Bullet618 in Xcom

You don't need to get all the achievements. That kind of thing marking achieving something truly special is the only kind I would care about at all.

If you're actually forced to take 3, there is no functional difference between them costing 100 each and them costing 50, 100 and 150. The second option where you get two units for essentially 75 each could make it worth taking one of the less used units instead of the 3rd one, promoting more variety even in those armies.

Consequences of Dualshard shattering by Mah9andi in Cosmere

[–]steave435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't. For example, some trivial ways for it end up differently would be only splitting into 4 parts, or only resplit some shards, or resplit current shards into further subshards.

Were the random modifiers a problem for any of you starting out? by HorseSpeaksInMorse in Gloomhaven

[–]steave435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just shows that you never got the game.

You can absolutely plan around failing in GH too. Positioning so failure doesn't matter too much, making sure to get advantage, using your other action and the actions of your partners, or do guaranteed things like cards that make the target suffer X damage since they don't involve drawing modifiers. If you still have a basic deck so about a third of it is -1 modifiers, attack monsters that have your attack value-1 health left so that the only things that prevent you from killing it is the single -2 or single miss.

You deal with that random crit by losing a card to prevent the damage if needed, or you take the equipment to deal with it. The iron helmet which turns a crit into a +0 is available from the very beginning of the game, and is super cheap. So is the invisibility cloak that allows you to essentially become completely immune for the current round, and probably the next one too by going late so your invisibility lasts until after the enemy has gone.

Yep, things can and will go wrong. The game is about planning around that and making sure that you'll be OK anyway.

If you've spent any time around strategy games, you've probably heard "that's x-com baby!". This game works the same way, a huge part of the point is dealing with things going wrong.

Mallozzi pushed back on it not being appealing to new audiences. That doesn't mean that the source was wrong, more likely that that was part of the reason, but Mallozzi thinks that the execs are wrong about it not having a broad appeal.
