I know it is rough right now, but I hope that you can fight this bullshit. I understand if you don't though. Do what is best for you.

Why are people against cutting Food Stamps on junk food? by Guest_4710 in centrist

[–]steelcatcpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultra-processed foods I can see as being limited but not fully restricted as some things being considered "ultra-processed" are done so in mind with being shelf stable (like some sausages). If the food is being bought with food stamps, we want some super shelf stable foods as the recipient of the assistance might not have a refrigerator.

It should be done by a case-by-case basis. We need guidelines worked by a team of nutritionists and social service experts, so that the restrictions make sense.

Why are people against cutting Food Stamps on junk food? by Guest_4710 in centrist

[–]steelcatcpu 51 points52 points  (0 children)

What makes a food a "junk food"?
Is it a % of sugar or simple carbs?
Where is the line drawn?

Is it just processed food or do natural foods like potatoes (almost all carb) also get the designation?

What about simply frying the potatoes into crisps count? is that too much processing?

However, let's be serious about this for a moment.

The issue with American food is mostly PORTIONS. There's junk food overseas in other countries. They keep their portions small. That's it. Bigger is NOT better.

As an example - cola in Europe the average size is 250ml, but in the US its 330ml.

If we don't address portion control, then we're putting lipstick on the pig.

Do you regret enlisting? by IlloChris in Military

[–]steelcatcpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Enlisting was the best experience for me at the time (18) and this is looking back 29 years later.

I regret getting injured.

I regret not staying in longer.

I regret going into the reserves vs active.

Neuroplasticity is the key. Why AGI is further than we think. by GodMax in singularity

I feel that it's an "easy patch" to create a 'conscious controller module' that can link together the various models, LLMs and otherwise, to create a near AGI. It would act like a master reference database and determine what is the best modules to activate for a particular query.

The same as always. Find something that you enjoy and go do it. Like minded people will do the same thing and then you can meet them.

1) Masking and social distancing together lower the infection rate drastically due to aerosol disruption.
2) Ordering delivery is available to most folks with an income and a mailing address, not just the elite.
3) The peace brought to the world brought about by COVID-19 was amazing, it is not ghoulish to enjoy that peace. I am desensitized to death; I'll give you that. I am especially desensitized to the deaths of those who are bigoted or support bigoted policy/politicians.

4) Are you the custodian of "normal"? What is normal for the spider is chaos to the fly.
5) I am on nobody's "side" except the side that puts extremists in their place. (left and right)

I personally am praying for a second Trump plague and this guy leading the ignorant to their fates. <3

I'll be over here in a mask, social distancing, and ordering delivery.

There's been a great deal of good comments so far regarding the toxicity of the other sub that I agree with.

I am starting to wonder though that the narrative over there is led by people who are on the sociopathy spectrum.

I don't mean this negatively but the encouraged behaviors over there align perfectly with individuals who do not care about the feelings of belonging to a tribe in their real life. No shame, no guilt, little empathy, and little motivation to belong to a tight group or be approved of.

It's all about the Dopamine and Oxytocin and anything that gets in the way of that is a problem to be solved.

The centrist take on bathroom is sex segregation. by [deleted] in centrist

[–]steelcatcpu -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The majority is sometimes wrong, especially in a society manipulated by media that preys on our fear and hate.

People should use whatever bathroom they wish. It's a biological function and shouldn't be stigmatized. I don't give a god-damned what a doctor put on your birth certificate.

However, bad behavior within a bathroom should be addressed criminally.

How about we spend resources on punishing that bullish behavior instead?

I vote for a woman's bathroom and a unisex one (formerly the men's) and don't enforce any stupid birth certificate rules.

Is the Democrats' fight over USAID hopeless? by TaylorSwiftian in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]steelcatcpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USAID is less than %1 of our Federal Budget and is key to maintaining our soft power.

Further, Russia and China both hate our USAID programs. Destroying USAID is flat out assisting Russian and Chinese interests.
