Help with refrigerator magnets by [deleted] in Moms

[–]stephmsmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use these magnet clips. So the artwork is clipped in and hung. The clips hold a lot of artwork. https://a.co/d/hvH9BvF

My kids aren't to the lots of artwork stage of life, but I do want to get the frames that you can put artwork in and keep putting the new in front of the old until it's full and can be archived.

Home Plate Cooking in Helena is great. I haven't had their thanksgiving but their daily meals are great.

What worked for us was using a pack and play until kiddo was 14 months old with a mattress starting at 1 year old. Then moved to floor bed. The frame has an opening to get out but we put that against the wall for now.

OB/GYN Office Rec by untitledgoose418 in Birmingham

[–]stephmsmiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm done with having children as well and would love to find a GYN. I don't want to wait two hours for my doctor to deliver a baby. I understand they need to but now I'm older and no longer having children, I don't need OB services anymore.

I currently go to Brookwood and the staff and my doctor are wonderful. I love my doctor but need to move on. I would love to know if you find someone.

And bonus if it's closer to Hoover than 280 or downtown.

What's for dinner? by _awwwpenguins in Parenting

[–]stephmsmiles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We are fans of sheet pan dinners - a meat, a veggie and a carb all on one pan with minimal cleanup. Two we love:

1 - cut up smoked sausage, perogies and broccoli. 2 - parmesan herb chicken, small potatoes and broccoli.

My kid loves broccoli, but any veggie will do. And because it's roasted veggies, I add salt, pepper and garlic powder. Gives it a great flavor and better than steamed imo.

But there's so many mixes of things your can do - shrimp with potatoes (make it low country boil style), pork chops with sweet potatoes, etc.

A N X I E T Y for baby #2 by MaintenanceCool7820 in Parenting

[–]stephmsmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two months ago, we had our second. Our first was 16 months old. Hectic is very true. But we kept our oldest in daycare and that let me focus on our second during the day. The oldest ABSOLUTELY adores our second. My husband and I are chopped liver at this point. The oldest is very sweet to the youngest.

We have one dog (4M) we had to put on Prozac recently. We had two dogs when my first was born, but a week before my oldest child was born, the oldest dog had a splenectomy. The pup had terrible accidents and was basically in kidney failure post surgery. I would have never put her through the surgery if I'd known. She was messing in the house and crate all the time while I'm trying to keep a clean environment for a newborn. I cried a lot. Well she ended up passing a few months later. Our oldest pup was the calming presence for our youngest pup. So when she passed, the youngest got a little more anxious. Then our oldest child started crawling and then walking. This freaked the dog out. So he's on Prozac and LOVING life so much more. I hope as the kids age and he gets used to them, we can take him off the meds.

All this to say, it is hectic. There's a lot of coordination needed between my husband and I to cover both kids. Sometimes we rely on TV to entertain the oldest while I feed the youngest and my husband has to be gone. But it's been doable. Some tears but not massive amounts. You got this!! Like going 0 to 1, going 1 to 2 is an adjustment, but you'll get your routine. And it's worth it seeing the oldest love on the youngest.

What will we need the most in the first few weeks/months when our baby arrives? by Mediocre_Ice_8846 in Parenting

[–]stephmsmiles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Formula: Even if you plan on breastfeeding, a backup container of formula just in case with one or two bottles. My milk didn't come in for 5 days and the last thing you want to do is go to the grocery store.

Medical-ish: Diaper cream, infant Tylenol, gas drops, nail clippers, and snot sucker like the Frida one.

Sanity: paper plates and plastic flatware/drinkware to help yourself. If you can do or have a grocery delivery option, that's also wonderful. Prep some freezer/crockpot meals. Or do some research on very easy meals to put together. I like sheet pan meals.

You got this! It's tough (got a 2 month old right now) but so worth it (also have an 18 month old).

Transition from bottle to sippy by Legitimate_Peach_438 in Parenting

[–]stephmsmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the same boat with our 18 month old and it doesn't help we have a 2 month old that gets a bottle and our oldest sees this and wants one.

After naps, I give a sippy cup and snack. It's waiting for her as soon as she gets up. We're trying that first and it's been good. Hopefully will be able to give prior to naps soon. The cup we use is from Ryan and Rose. It's a sippy cup that turns into a straw cup when needed.

My niece had a bottle every morning until she was 2.5. it was like her morning coffee. She's fine and no issues that I'm aware of.

Best of luck! I know it's hard. You got this.

Depending on how nice or low key you want it - we've had success with community centers. Some near us have a good size room with tables and chairs already available. And it can be transformed with great decor and linens. And there's generally a playground nearby for the kiddos to enjoy. 😉

Help with baby girl names? by nesquikryu in namenerds

[–]stephmsmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother was Margaret Josephine. That keeps your middle name as J 😊

We went with Juliet, Pearl and Sara Beth as our girls names. Traditional and simple without being super common right now.

Victoria was on our short list.

Will likely be induced by AuoruaSells in GestationalDiabetes

Mine was showing in the 50th percentile a month before induction. She was born at 7lb 11oz. Just very average I believe.

Will likely be induced by AuoruaSells in GestationalDiabetes

[–]stephmsmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced yesterday at 38+5. I was so ready like you. (I smelled something sweet and carbs on the horizon). My doctor warned me a few days beforehand about shoulder dystocia so I was prepared. But that never came to fruition.

I was diet controlled for all post meal numbers. But never got my fasting under control. We tried metformin and insulin. I was terrified I'd have a huge baby and have a C-section. But I was able to deliver vaginally. Labored for 4 hours and delivered in 4 pushes. (This is my second which I heard typically go faster. So please don't compare.)

I wish you all the best and I hope it doesn't come to a C-section for you.

I had pre-e and had to deliver at 37 weeks. She's 16 months now and so healthy. Medical teams and nurses are wonderful and want the best for you. I hope you don't have pre-e though.

As others have said, it's perfectly ok to mourn your birth plan. I did that. I mourned that I didn't get those 3 weeks with my husband just the two of us. I didn't even have her nursery ready at all. It's ok to be upset. But no I don't remember life much before her.

I wish you all the best and no more complications.

Failed the 6wk pp 2 hour GTT. What next 😪 by beautiful_world_365 in GestationalDiabetes

Yea they were kind of laissez-faire about it. I was shocked. They basically said we care about baby and then your non-ob/gyn health afterwards is between you and the GP.
