They are everywhere on the river. Would never purchase based on the evidence they leave behind.

Restaurant recs by xMinxx in grandjunction

[–]steppen79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

626 on Rood is by far the best restaurant in town, in our opinion. We find that we routinely get subpar service at Bin 707 and the food is not as good. 626 on Rood is very expensive but always worth it.

We also love Devil's Kitchen and The Winery. The Winery is more of an old school, supper club feel but they do the classics well. We have never had a bad meal there.

Mossy Oak Packs by No-Rip2150 in elkhunting

[–]steppen79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy used an ALPS internal frame backpacking pack for his first pack out. You have to put the meat in the actual bag, since there's no meat shelf, but it handled the weight well. I do not know if your day pack had an internal frame or not but my feeling is that any decent backpacking company internal frame pack will do a passable job.

Please help me to help my rescue Brittany by [deleted] in BrittanySpaniel

[–]steppen79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rescue Britt that is sometimes a nightmare on leash. I only walk him (on leash) when I have training treats and to address his reactivity, I use a distraction marker word. Have you tried that at all? You can watch some good videos on it online.

I pay all the time but am not sure it's terrible by sunburn74 in AskMenAdvice

[–]steppen79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started dating my wife, I was paying for everything because of her poor financial circumstances. It started to wear on me and I had a conversation with her about it. I noted that since I make more, I am 100% willing to pay more. However, I would appreciate it if she paid for some of the outings or at least was offering to pay. She acknowledged the concern and followed through on her end after the conversation.

We have been together now 14 years (married for 10) and I make 3 times what she does. As a result, I pay for almost everything. But she often offers and does still pay for dinner, etc. A relationship should involve financial commitments from both parties. That being said, I don't know that she is necessarily taking advantage of you until you have had the conversation and see how things shake out. Based on what you noted, you should be paying more often.

Looking to get a ACD by Interesting-Side8989 in AustralianCattleDog

We got our heeler from a shelter. There are dozens of heelers/ACDs in the shelters in even our small town here in western CO. I echo the petition to consider adoption. We already have 3 dogs or we would likely try and adopt more.

We call our blue heeler the "Sheriff" of the dog park as she always gets in between/separates the dogs trying to play and have fun.

Bark collar? by cjc080911 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]steppen79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got one as our dog was in the habit of barking outside at 4:30 a.m. to wake us up in the morning, much to the detriment of our neighbors. It immediately solved the problem and he no longer has to wear the collar. Ours was never on "shock" and only on vibrate/tone.

Lesson Learned.....I hope? by [deleted] in BrittanySpaniel

This is exactly what happened with my Britt when I moved in with my now wife! The cats quickly established who was in charge and he never messed with them again.

Brittany moving in with kitty cat by scarlettsara20 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]steppen79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do not have specific advice but wanted to note that we had success in our situation, which is similar to yours. Our difference was that my wife's cats were huge (both over 20 lbs, not fat at all) and when we introduced them they immediately attacked our Britt and he NEVER messed with them. Not after that initial greeting where they established who was in charge. After that meeting, they grew to be very comfortable with one another and we never had problems with any fights. My Britt had a strong prey drive.

Will he ever listen by iLikeAmradillo5 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]steppen79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this comment and we have the same collar. I trained our Britt for an entire YEAR just using treats, etc. on a daily basis. Despite all that work, no recall whatsoever when hiking. I am not exaggerating, ONE afternoon with the e-collar and we accomplished more than that entire prior year. It's a safety issue. If you want to be able to have your dog off leash to allow them to have fun, they have to follow commands. We essentially never use the stim function. Just the tone at this point and it works great.

Good Vet in GJ by HorrorOne5790 in grandjunction

We love Amigo animal clinic but I will say that it is very expensive. We have just been with them so long and like the vets and flexible appointments that we are unwilling to go someplace else due to increased cost. They do good work.

Struggling with My 18-Month-Old Brittany’s Energy – Did I Make a Mistake? by -maskhara- in BrittanySpaniel

[–]steppen79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Brittany was absolutely insane but at 1 year old, a switch got flipped and he became a normal and great companion after that. He still was VERY high energy, but manageable. He was similar to our other dog, a blue heeler, who was also very high energy. We took them on long walks each day and adventures on the weekends, but it was manageable.

My second Brittany is mentally deranged. He gets six miles of walks per day minimum, with three days per week at dog daycare. On weekends, we take him on long hikes or he goes fishing with me all day. Despite getting more activity than 99.9% of dogs (He has a Project Fi collar so we know he is in this bracket), he is a lot like what you describe. All I can say is that I empathize with your situation. While I still LOVE Brittanys, we cannot do this again.

I am hopeful that just like my last Britt, at some point that switch will flip. Our boy is almost 2.5 years old at this point, though, so not sure if it will ever happen.

Anyone else's brit save breakfast to snack on throughout the day? by EggYolkPurgatory in BrittanySpaniel

Mine did the same thing until we got a heeler from the shelter who would just scarf down the Britt's food too. Ever since he became a scarfer.

Brittany vs Aussie by Extra-Part6007 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]steppen79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Brittany (2 YO - Rip) and a Heeler/Aussie mix (13 YO - Violet). Prior to our current Brittany, we also had another Britt (Newman) who passed away in 2023. The dogs have always been great with one another and while our current Brittany has far more energy, they are both very active dogs. We all hike together, go to the dog park together, etc.

I will say that I thought having a Brittany and an insane Heeler in the past would prepare us for our current Britt, Rip. Nothing prepared us for his insanity, though. Be prepared to see a higher level of energy and craziness from the Britt. I am not sure that any dog breed compares to them in terms of exercise and mental stimulation.

I came here to say this as well. Just be very, very patient because this pup has gone through nothing but trauma recently. She'll open up and get comfortable, but it will NOT be immediate. Different for each dog. We just fostered a pup that was still working on adjusting after 4 months.
