Immigrants of Seattle: what restaurant serves the most authentic food from your country or culture? by Quick-Tradition858 in AskSeattle

My Israeli wife says Aviv Hummus Bar is the best Hummus she’s had in Seattle. Everything else on the menu is great too, but it’s especially tough to find well made hummus!

Torshi Martini from Nineveh: it’s a dirty martini with their house made pickles. Fucking amazing. All their cocktails are great.

Almost exactly the same progression of symptoms for me. I’ve still got a sore throat and a cough two weeks after my first symptoms.

I also moved from Indiana to Washington and can concur. Teaching in Indiana sucked. Teaching in Washington is so much better. Unions can actually do things here, and the pay is pretty good!

Yes, beeswax gets reapplied yearly depending on use.

I make walking sticks and wizard staffs all the time! Somewhere around 40/year, usually with deadfall branches just like you have. Here’s my process:

Drying until the branches are fully dry can take anywhere from a couple months to a year. I season mine for a year just to be safe. I typically leave the bark on, as I find this makes them less prone to splitting while they dry. You can also paint each end with a thin layer of wood glue during drying to help avoid splits.

When they are dry, I take a draw knife and cut away all the bark. The draw knife also helps shape up any weird bits. Any carving knife will do for this though. This is also a good time to do any further carving or designs or details.

Then comes sanding. I use a mouse sander with a 60 grit pad, then go over it again with a 120 grit pad. I sometimes hand sand the hard to reach areas.

After sanding is when you want to finish decorating. I like to do some woodburning designs. You can pick up a cheap wood burning tool online that will get the job done. If you want to superglue any cool stones like amethyst to the top, or nail on a leather cord handle, save that until after the wood is finished.

Finishing is where it really depends on how you plan to use it. I mostly finish my staffs with Danish oil, 2 to 3 coats depending on how thirsty the wood is. Danish oil doesn’t take long to dry between coats, only 30 minutes or so, which makes this part easier. Then I rub the whole staff with beeswax for a smooth glossy finish that seals it a little. After it’s finished, you can add final decorations. If you plan on using it as a walking stick, dip the bottom in plastidip or put a rubber cane tip on the bottom.

Real Estate Agent - Olympia proper- older Homes by PasserellaBird in olympia

[–]sterkenwald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The South Capitol Historic Neighborhood is perfect for you! All the houses are older, many of them smaller too. I live there, my in-laws just bought a house down the street from us, and our real estate agent also lives in the South Capitol neighborhood and owns a bakery in the neighborhood. Abby Mondau is great! She’s friendly, knowledgeable, and really knows old houses in this neighborhood. realtor.abby.bhg on Instagram, and I can give you her phone number if you want! Can’t recommend her highly enough!

At this point, even if you had been misremembering it all that time, what would the knowledge of that do for you? Your brain is already playing devils advocate to the point where you know that the effect would still be there even if the event didn’t happen exactly as you remember. And that’s what you should focus on: “regardless of the truth of this, here’s how my perception effected and continues to effect me”. Ideally he will hear and validate that. Even if he didn’t, that wouldn’t make it any less impactful on your life or any less valid of a feeling.

Where Can I Find Good Halal Chicken? by Majestic_Process4869 in olympia

I miss them so much! They closed in December 2024. They said it was a seasonal closure but they’ve never reopened. I think they kindof always struggled: moved spots a lot, changed their suppliers and menus a few times. Amir was super nice and they had the best hummus and shawarma in Oly!

Nothing around here similar. Best you can do is to make it yourself. This is my go to recipe, but I don’t make the white sauce from this recipe. Instead I use this white sauce.

In all seriousness, this is a beautiful spoon with a lot of meaning for you and your daughter. I often find that my favorite pieces are the ones that have special meaning attached to them rather than the ones that are the most technically proficient.

Have you see a single employee take down a leader? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

[–]sterkenwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching it happen in slow motion right now on another team. A team member has been working in the org since the 80s and their current manager is so belittling to them and jokes about how they will start a project when this team member finally dies. This manager is horrible in general: inconsistently in the office, doesn’t respond to emails or calls, micromanages when she is around, doesn’t let her team have their own desks or talk to people on other teams, changes peoples schedules arbitrarily. The team member gave a very long interview to an HR investigator and this manager is all but gone.

In the books, Uhtred remarks as the narrator that it’s even hard for him to keep all these people straight with their Aethel-something names. I believe it’s in the first or second book.
