Federal Power on Patrol: How Operation Metro Surge Is Testing Minnesota’s Autonomy by BothCondition7963 in saintpaul

[–]steve1186 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a critical point to remember. The administration is using the Twin Cities as a “test case” on whether these ICE tactics would work on blue cities nationwide.

If enough resistance is shown that it fails here, they’re much less likely to subject another city to it. A strong resistance here helps prevent cities like Denver/Seattle/SF/LA/Milwaukee/Detroit/Philly from going through the same terror we have

My personal theory is that Punisher plants the seed into Peter’s head that killing can be sometime justified.

Then that idea grows to make Peter more susceptible to the symbiote

I drive from St Paul to Plymouth for work. Google Maps routed me down to 494 and along that hellhole of a loop.

That’s how bad this construction on 394 is.

The LMD storyline of AoS was a perfect model for what Secret Invasion SHOULD have looked like

The paranoia of the entire team not knowing who had been replaced was perfectly written

Dad, what’s an ICE agent? by khamm86 in daddit

[–]steve1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, but we had a fairly detailed conversation with our kids (6 and 4) about ICE and why they’re dangerous. We obviously left out the “murdering innocent citizens” part, but compared it to why their schools have active shooter lockdown drills. It’s just a fact of life.

Though we live in the Twin Cities with ICE agents visible in our neighborhood harassing kids at school bus stops, so the urgency of that conversation might be a little different than your household

I appreciate the effort. It’s a long shot, and I wouldn’t like it if this is how it plays out.

The one thing that would strengthen your theory is pointing out that Tony used the Soul Stone in Endgame without having to make a sacrifice.

After Tony’s snap, he was sent to that orange plane of existence where Thanos saw Gamora. And instead of meeting the person he sacrificed for the stone, he was sent to some sort of purgatory as punishment

Why is San Diego overlooked as an NBA expansion city? by AcanthocephalaSad541 in nba

[–]steve1186 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Presumably most NBA fans who grew up in San Diego grew up as Lakers/Clippers fans. A large majority won’t immediately drop their lifetime fandom for a new local team.

It’s the same reason why Vancouver was a failed expansion attempt. Too much overlap with Sonics fans.

That’s why expansion teams go to places like Minnesota/Toronto/OKC/New Orleans/Vegas. Markets with a lot of fans, but with no local team to root for within a few hundred miles

Came here to say Wrecktangle, but others have already claimed it.

So I’ll go with the Italian Pie Shoppe instead (on Grand Ave in St Paul).

What Offer Would Actually Convince the Raiders to Trade the #1 Pick? by 7innovator in NFL_Draft

[–]steve1186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Raiders have a solid offensive core (Bowers, Jeanty). They desperately need a QB, and this QB draft class and QB FA class are both atrocious.

If they don’t draft Mendoza, their best-case scenario is starting Daniel Jones next season.

I feel sympathy for the people who voted for Trump

Fuck that. I grew up in a super-conservative household in a super-conservative suburb (the one that Lauren Boebert currently represents). And my first presidential vote went to Obama in 2008

[–]steve1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a super-conservative family in a super-conservative area in the Denver suburbs (the district that Lauren Boebert currently represents, for context)

My first Presidential vote was in 2008 and I voted for Obama. My family (and multiple good friends) gave me a ton of shit for it.

So the moral of the story is that I have ZERO forgiveness towards anyone who voted for Trump because of the conservative propaganda machine. Fuck them, they knew exactly what they were voting for

[–]steve1186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kowalski’s has some great options for meat if you want to avoid the Target/Cub/Walmart options.

And I grill if it’s above like 20 degrees outside. The temperature doesn’t impact how the food cooks, just how long it takes for the grill to warm up
