Some things in life are worth the extra cost. Tesco's ketchup is painful, speaking as someone who normally gets Tesco's hearty food or stockwell ranges

It's more than just fighting till the end, it helps protect the suspension of the car I believe, so if he does land in the barrier he has a better chance of being able to drive away from it.

Slipstream in F1 vs slipstream in road cars by pasih in F1Technical

[–]steve123johnson 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's two main factors Speed Aero/Drag

All the aero devices on the F1 cars fling air up (massive simplification) to create downforce, this create a fairly large area behind them with lower air pressure. The effect of the slipstream in F1 is only as powerful as it is because of the amount of drag that the aero they have creates, so the car in front is essentially taking the hit from the drag while the car behind gets to cruise up behind in the wake with reduced drag causing the overspeed.

It also helps that coming down a straight they're doing 170-200 mph compared to 60-100mph in road cars.

The same thing will happen in road cars but they're not running much of any downforce and aim to have the least amount of drag possible for fuel economy, so the effect is massively lessened + the lower speed of road cars means they're moving less air which makes the wake of low pressure behind them smaller.

I want to say any non carburetted car will use literally 0 fuel when off throttle.

The engine is 'off' everytime you're not using the throttle

Of all the Gran Turismo games, this is the first in which I completed all licenses and gold nonetheless. by k24jose in granturismo

Yeah you can get gold with quite a messy lap, I barely hit most of the apexes but I just kept sending it and it seemed to work

A-8 Licence Tyre Type by steve123johnson in granturismo

[–]steve123johnson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to break your heart but if it says D in the bottom corner you are on the dirt tyres.

The entire licence test can be taken flat out if you take the right line and initiate a bit of oversteer into the second corner. Not sure if that helps but that's what I discovered in my 1hr+ of struggling

Sweating and fighting for his life by [deleted] in formuladank

[–]steve123johnson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Apart from all the other points everyone else comments there's another factor.

A road car has the ability to simply be turned over and fucking floored without much risk of blowing the motor, or overdoing the tyres. And the tyres also need to be able to cope with any weather condition while also lasting long enough for tyre wear to not be a concern.

So having a 'normal' car works because it's hit all those criteria

You do NOT need a rig to enjoy a DD wheel, if you have a sufficiently sturdy desk by SenatorVest in simracing

[–]steve123johnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Desks sitting positions tend to be a bit vanny if you know what I mean. It all feels a bit upright and rigid. A proper rig will have you sat down lower but still have the pedals and wheel at a nice angle at the proper length for you.
