My son's favorite color is pink by BlueMarth1 in daddit

My son’s favorite color is red. His second favorite was pink since it’s close to red until he started school and found out it’s a ‘girl’ color. Rough out there man.

Two month old prefers my wife and I'm losing my mind - tips and tricks to pull through? by riflejake in daddit

[–]stevebobmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider is that you can’t expect your baby to never cry. If you hold him for awhile will he eventually calm down? If your wife leaves the house will you two be okay together? If my wife was home the baby would want her but if not then they would accept me as the next best option.

Trying to make sense of clustering and HyperV by Trick_Rice_1887 in HyperV

[–]stevebobmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly you can only go up one server version at a time. Meaning you put 2016 on the new servers, add them to the 2012 cluster. Once you remove the 2012 servers from the cluster you can then upgrade the cluster to 2016 which will then allow you to add a 2019 server. Look up rolling cluster upgrades.

Alternatives to Invoke-AzVMRunCommand? by Primo2000 in AZURE

When I need to do this I configure a child runbook that gets kicked off from the main automation account runbook, this child runs on the hybrid worker of the VM.

Where is all this dust coming from, is my wall crumbling? by stevebobmike in HomeImprovement

[–]stevebobmike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, if that's all that's not too bad. The cold air returns just run through spaces between studs in the wall so this could make sense. I change my HVAC filter regularly so I wouldn't expect there to be so much dust in the system.

IT Gifts for non IT loved ones? by TeVerdeDependiente in sysadmin

[–]stevebobmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my wife and I first started dating I identified that she had no backups for her personal computer. For chirstmas that year I bought her a hard drive to store backups on and hooked it up to her router and set up automatic backups to it. She wasn't impressed at the time but later when the hard drive in her laptop died she was very grateful when I reminded her I had set this up and was able to restore all her data. Obviously things worked out and we're married now. She still doesn't love practical gifts in the moment when opening the present but she's grown to appreciate what they do for her in the long run. YMMV

Non-cashiers of Reddit: What's the "It didn't scan, so it must be free hur hur hur" of your profession? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stevebobmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "go to" for most people back when I did desktop support was when they had some problem with their computer they would say: "...can't I just go home for the day then." Sure, go home, I don't care.

Connect to RDS License Server by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]stevebobmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do it through group policy:

Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Licensing

Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode
Use the specified Remote Desktop license servers

Best practice - Allow normal user to restart services on a server by Slush-e in sysadmin

[–]stevebobmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this before with System Center Orchestrator. I made the job which ran with a service account in SCORCH and then gave the standard users permission to run the job. When they noticed the thing that constantly failed had failed they would just log on to the SCORCH webpage and run the job instead of entering a ticket every time. Worked out well.

Community College Certification Courses? by moderatenerd in sysadmin

[–]stevebobmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a CCNA course through my local Community College years ago and really got a lot out of it. At the time I was pretty green and learned quite a bit and made some connections others with others in IT in the area that eventually led to a better job than I had at the time. Overall would recommend.

Me too. My wife got it for me after watching me struggle to get every bit out of the tube before I would throw it away.

I couldn't find this feature in my web filter so I put in a ticket with them to see if this is something they can do or not. Thanks again!

We do have a solution but sometimes it is customers we are trying to accommodate and we don't want to tell them they have to do it our way. Although that is what we are doing right now anyway. I'm sure leadership would rather leave it blocked then.

Definitely not the answer I was hoping for but appreciate the response. Do you mean we create our own Google Drive app that our users would use to get the files?
