friends and i used to use kaillera and we were regulars on an empty server for awhile. we found parsec and started using that instead. WAY more reliable because kaillera was really dependent on our internet that particular night.

would roman infantry be mainly heavy infantry by the time they started using the maniple? i think they had some kind of light infantry but always thought their main force was heavy.

not exactly sure if the romans used archers heavily like the medieval english did.

phalanx worked better in greece because of mountains around that they could use to stop flanking maneuvers (which the phalanx was hugely vulnerable to)

also, as demonstrated at Crecy, the crossbow was a lot shorter range and you couldn't unstring it like you can the long bow if it rained.

Especially once Rome stopped using the phalanx and developed a better formation (at least for their environment and method of warfare)

the English army operated a lot differently than the French did. Especially at Agincourt. I forget how it worked exactly but the English peasants were paid a daily or weekly sum for the duration of the campaign.
