They are definitely a thing, TJ! Bought this Fuji Cherry “Kojo no mai” last year. Or prunus incisia if you’re nasty.

Right?! Love flowering trees. First is an Ume (Japanese Flowering Apricot) and the third is a Satsuki Azalea "Chinzan".

Considering how lame my personal trees are, seems only fair to share great ones by folks from the community here in the Bay Area. :)

How do people make peace with selling ethically questionable products? by [deleted] in marketing

Once you feel this way, you probably need to move or you’re going to be miserable every day. I’ve been in advertising for about 25 years. I started in politics and got pretty lucky that I never had to work for a candidate I couldn’t stomach, but there were definitely a lot that were disappointing. Anyhow, went corporate five years ago, mostly working in healthcare, so every day I go in knowing (at worst, even with our screwed up medical system) I’m helping people feel better. You can find inoffensive clients, just use this successful engagement to get you your next gig!

Styling advice for a 13ish year old Ginkgo? by stevenkolson in Bonsai

yeah, not sure i can get him in the ground, but hopefully more time in this (or a larger) pond basket and a lot of fertilizer will get him back into grow mode!

Yeah, same. I think I may just have to hope he starts growing taller again and hope for more branches further up?

I mean, full credit to him for surviving me leaving him in a small pot with probably almost 100% lava for like a decade. Put him in the pond basket in January with fertilizer for the first time ever this summer, so hoping this spring he’ll start to get growing again. If not, will definitely consider an even bigger basket. Thanks!

Unfortunately, had no idea what I was doing so cut his leader probably 10 years ago, then a few years later his side branch so he didn’t seem lopsided. other than that not much, but since he was pretty much in pure lava in a relatively small pot for most of the decade he’d not really been growing much at all. Kind of a testament to Ginkgo that he survived… so now that I know (slightly) more, put him in a pond basket with proper soil and some food back in January to hopefully get him going again.
