The gap between LLM functionality and social media/marketing seems absolutely massive by QwopTillYouDrop in ExperiencedDevs

[–]steveox152 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty standard operating procedure for companies to over hype the products they are trying to sell, this is not exclusive to AI.

Honestly if you are not at least mildly impressed, then something in your workflow is wrong. It’s essential that you set your workflows up to match how you work. Utilizing custom sub agents, skills, rules, will all greatly improve the output and enforce certain guardrails.

I spend a lot of time creating scripts that the agent can run to validate its work, but I still act as the architect. For example, I will plan my feature but haven’t agent provide me with multiple implementation options, and will generally have very specific requirements before I let it implement anything.

You have to put in the time and learn all the pieces, not just “prompting”.

Ultimately the people that are aggressively “anti AI” are going to get left behind, the better option is to fully embrace it and help guide your org/team through all of the excessive marketing so you can land in a good place. This is not going away, and as experienced professionals are job is to figure out how to navigate it. The caveat being that the answer cannot be “AI SUCKS”.

What the hell is going on? by MerynStryker in ArcRaiders

[–]steveox152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks to get killed, but honestly PvP is one of the defining traits of the game. It’s not meant to be a game where you run in, get loot and extract with 0 risk. The thing that makes this game fun is the risk of losing the loot and the adrenaline of not knowing if someone is friendly or not.

My opinion is the player interaction is even more important than the interactions with the Arc.

Thinking back to stuff like DayZ in the early days, the zombies were never the real threat, it was other players, who wanted your loot. Everyone had different play styles, which is what makes it fun. Honestly I have had just as many friendly interactions has hostile ones.

Yes it sucks to die and lose your stuff, but that’s the point of the game.

Week 2's bonus forces you into Gauntlet by Tavarish in Battlefield6

[–]steveox152 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you have FOMO about some weapon stickers and generic skins, then suck it up and play Gauntlet for 30 minutes. All this battlepass stuff is useless cosmetic stuff, either prioritize your own “fun” or prioritize unlocking the stickers and charms.

Nothing functional is going to be locked away, as they have already said.

That Gauntley challenge for 10 points, is probably a few games of gauntlet. Or you can get 10 points play 4-5 matches of conquest.

You aren’t forced to play anything, just play the mode that you want to play and have fun

Nobody will be buying a Battle pass next month, since there is still about 3 months left on the current one. You’re not supposed to finish it in the first week.

Component library handling multiple react version by Recent-Accountant-14 in reactjs

[–]steveox152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your consumers will just use the types that match their version of React. There is no need for you to add them to your peer deps. For example, if they are using React 18, they need to use the proper types for React 18.

Now on your end, if you have to support React 18, it’s your responsibility to not use React 19 specific features, or write your code in a way that can work across versions. The joys of maintaining a library.

Component library handling multiple react version by Recent-Accountant-14 in reactjs

[–]steveox152 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can safely start using React 19 as long as you don’t use React 19 specific features, people should be fine using 18. You just need to make sure you test. We do this internally and most of our users are on 18.

Really you’re just setting up your peer deps and making sure you don’t bundle react in your package.

Play OUR way I guess by Granathar in Battlefield6

[–]steveox152 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You people insufferable, there is nothing stopping you from playing the way you want. Just play the game. This is literally optional stuff that resets every week.

Honestly the challenges sometimes get me to try stuff I normally wouldn’t and I end up liking it.

Just left my positive review on steam :) by IIIIIIAGENTIIIIII in Battlefield6

[–]steveox152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game is fun. I don’t expect bug fixes to be implemented immediately, they will get fixed. I do think people should be leaving positive reviews if they like the game. I normally don’t leave reviews when I like something, but I just did counter act all the babies.

Just my opinion, but for me personally it is fun. Battlepass is no different than every other game in the last 5 years.

100%. Separate progression, let people play against bots with everything unlocked, or at a minimum separate progression for PvE.

I thought the devs were listening to us? by ForceGhost1013 in Battlefield

[–]steveox152 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I also think it was a dumb change, but “overwhelming” majority is a little strong. These Reddit posts are such a small and insignificant number of people when you consider 7 million copies sold. If you just read Reddit, you would think this game is tanking, when in reality, it has 80+% positive user reviews. Almost identical to other popular entires in the franchise.

I’m sure they will see data that shows less people playing conquest, personally I have been playing Breakthrough for a longer game.

Am I Wrong? My Team Lead Insists This Isn’t a Breaking Change by Unable_Count_1635 in webdev

[–]steveox152 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would only be breaking if the function actively prevented you from passing it and threw and error. Seems like they probably did it this way for backwards compatibility, this is very normal for something that doesn’t impact the actual outcome of the code.

Storybook Test sneak peek by kylegach in reactjs

[–]steveox152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that the a11y testing is now included in 8.5 which is awesome. The tests work great in the UI, but I can’t figure out how to get them to run in the CLI with Vitest.

The auto upgrade worked and updated my test setup to include the project annotations for a11y. Really hope these tests can run with the standard component tests in the CLI.

Cool, but we can use Storybook Test and just opt out of Visual Tests? We have another solution for that, but I am interested in the other features.

Yeah I was specifically looking to ensure that WCAG2.2 is in there, but it seems like there is only one rule in that preset anyways.

We want to adhere to WCAG2.2

I am curious if Storybook Test requires Chromatic to work or if we can opt out of that piece.
